But if the booktstore only had 5 in stock, it doesn't say much, just saying for example. It depends on stock of the bookstore to be honest.
Certainly, but thinking about it logically, what's the least a bookstore, assuming it's a local one, would order? Seeing as they aren't too pricey I'd guess that book store would have a decent amount in stock.

Depends, since it appears to be a Japanese bookstore in Brazil, at least that is where the poster said he was from, it might keep a relatively low stock. The Borders I work at stocks a relatively high amount of manga, for any series other than the mega series (Naruto, Fruits Basket, Bleach, Rosario, Vampire Knight) we usually get no more than six in our initial shipment. That is referring to English language, of course.

While I'm not rooting for Medaka's success (the opposite, in fact), it could be a scenario something like what Bakuman described for To-Love, where it's not getting as many votes due to the fanservice quotient, but still has somewhat of a following.

But I would prefer to wait for the actual volume numbers before saying anything for sure.

Edit: Especially with what Kaiten just brought up.

well, if it was sold out while others like Akaboshi didn't, then it at least mean that its better than average.

and from my knowledge (or at least from the ones i've seen so far), overseas Japanese bookstores don't usually order tankobons of very new mangas. they only have ones that have at least 3 or 4 volumes out.

and he could still be in Japan even if his country is Brazil. I'm living in Middle East right now, but i'm still Korean.

In Brazil, we don't have any bookstore (at least in our largest city, São Paulo, that I know) that receive volumes direct from Japan.
I guess this guy is brazilian, but lives in Japan (and I think I know him, lol)

I never seen lots of people interested on book sells. Medaka's and Akaboshi's tank sells is really everybody's center of topic.

Does anybody know which of these ranking, amazon and jbook, are more accurate?

From my observation, jbook is more accurate

If your observation is true, then Akaboshi is currently outselling Medaka right now.

Probably because the one that sells less is the one more likely to be axed if it comes down to two cuts in November.

Personally I did find the pre - order rankings interesting, not as a judge of sales but as a (very) little window into demand. Now that the books are out I can wait until the Oricon ranks come out. I am very skeptical that Jbooks or Amazon are very accurate judges of sales as a whole, since traditional stores account for far more sales. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But I really don't care that much about where they rank on either sight; I guarantee neither will make Oricon's top ten, neither will sell what the first volume of Toriko or Beelzebub did, and we'll still be going round and round wondering which one will end even though there is still a good five or six weeks before cancellations start.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Im in Japan right now, so yeah its a japanese bookstore =P

They had a bunch o akaboshi, and i think they order the same quantity for both medaka and akaboshi.

And the bookstore is in a pretty faraway place, so i think probably the bookstores in the city doesnt have anymore medaka either.

I think the fan service and Ishin's name are helping a lot with the sales.

PS: Vc me conhece Estranho, eu sou o Igor, da comunidade Toc do Orkut.

lol. Yeah, I saw the Brazilian flag and just figured >///<

Yeah, Ishin and fanservice seem like they can sell a lot. Bakemonogatari is charting again since the anime started. Plus Medaka seems like it would appeal to a lot of people who don't buy Jump.

Another CP for Kuroko? LOL

The reason is most likely the fact that its position is not very high again :lmao

ouch Ane Doki and Bakuman.
i'm surprised Medaka went up (at least its not in bottom 5,....). and seems like Akaboshi and Kagijin is stuck in that spot.

looking forward to Bakuman cover.

In honest, it isn't weird that Medaka and Akaboshi got axed within chapter 17~19 or in previous round of cancellation, based on their ranking. I really don't know what's the editors mind about these two series. Are they saving both series for next round or are both series increased the ranking on recent chapters?

Also, which one is more danger on next round, Medaka (has better ranking than Akaboshi) or Akaboshi (according ro jbook, higher tank sells than Medaka)?

Bakuman's in the bottom five this week, but next week it's #1. Isn't that strange...
Really is a yo-yo series, don't you think.
Kagijin and Akaboshi still at the bottom. Kuroko's varied but it's generally been low.

well TLR ended, and D.Gray moved out, so I think they were just lucky (and I thought MB and Akaboshi didn't go through cancellation season yet)

for the one in most danger, i say Akaboshi. its rank is worse, and MB has the "famous author" boost. i think WSJ will prefer sticking to MB longer to get as much as they can from the author's name.

I think famous author's name doesn't help Medaka to survive. There has been other famous magakas had axed after their success of previous works, like Watsuki, Nishi, Takei, Fujisaki, Tsunomaru, etc. Even the author is famous, if they didn't do well on next work, they'll get axed, not matter what, and I think this goes same to Nisio. Nisio is indeed famous light novelist, but it is his first manga and base on ranking, he's not doing very good.

Only thing Medaka has upper hand against Akaboshi is ranking. But the tank sales, based on Jbook, Akaboshi is higher than Medaka.
