With Akaboshi now gone it's gonna look worse for both Medaka
Kagijin, don't care for either of those series though.

Kagijin is on the way out. Medaka remains to be seen. It certainly will go if another series starts after Asou's. If it survives this cut it could have enough time to develop a fan base, like Psyren and Sket Dance were able to do.

You know, with Kuroko's color whoring, I'm kinda surprised there's no story about it yet in Bakuman. I would love a "take that!" story about kuroko. Has there ever been other series which dropped to the bottom quite a lot and still got a lot of color?

Remember that a lot of the middle tier series will drop to the bottom. Toriko, Beelzebub, Ane Doki, and Bakuman., Sket Dance, Psyren, and Gintama have each had multiple chapters in the bottom five this year. Other then the big 3, Mago and Reborn are the only series I can think of that have not hit the bottom 5 since June. Kuroko is emerging as a strong seller so promoting it with a little color is not a bad idea.

Why so much hate to kuroko it's rigth it probably doesn't deserve so much colour but you guys are allways saying "dam kuroko's getting colour again". Kuroko is a good series IMO.

And anyone knows when this weeks covers is going to appear? I hope sorachi can surprise us.

The new cover won't come out until raws come out. Thursday or Friday at the earliest. Series that get a lot of color/covers always get a lot of resentment. Naruto and Kuroko this year, Bleach last year. If any series that is considered neglected this year gets 8 covers in 2010, that will be resented.

You're missing the point entirely. We're not angry because Kuroko gets a lot of color, we're angry because every time Kuroko drops to the bottom, it gets color in the following week. You don't see anyone complaining about Beelze's color whoring, do you? It's because Beelze doesn't get color as a way to pretend the series isn't doing bad in the weekly rankings. Nor do Bleach and Naruto, obviously.

Kuroko's color whoring is a special case: unlike the other series, it serves only to show how weak the manga is, to the point it can't sustain itself out of the bottom without gaining CP every other week.

(And please don't repeat the sales argument, we're all sick of hearing it already. In fact, Kuroko's good sales only further prove my point: if it sells well, why try to hide the fact it polls like crap? If it's not going to get cancelled, just let it sink and become the next To-Love, dammit...)

Last I checked there were groans every time Beelze gets color and Naruto gets the cover. Last year it was Bleach. If anyone doesn't like certain series getting whored start reading Magazine. Models are put on the cover instead of series, it's rare to see anything get more then three color pages in a year, it's even more rare for a series to get canceled. It's a better anthology anyway. Better yet start reading Big Comic Spirits and Afternoon. Like it or not this is what Jump does, take it or leave it.

Actually, I'm not happy about Beelzebub is getting a lots of colour, too. So, far Beelzebub has 10 colour page, it is like getting a colour on every three weeks. This is too much. I think both Kuroko and Beelzebub are getting too much colour. I think Beelebub already prove that it is doing very good, so I think it can pull by itself, so I hope colour to other series.

In the beginning, yeah. But I haven't seen any complaints about Beelze in a few months. If memory serves, last time was when it got two CPs in a row.

If any series should get colour pages it should be Psyren, Sket, Mago or Bakuman. Especially the first two, even though the last two Psyren colour spreads have been crap to say the least.

Mago's gotten two color pages this fall, each as part of extra long chapters. More than fair if you ask me. As a fan I'd obviously like more, but whatever. Sket and Psyren definitely deserve more.

Kuroko can get colour and be in botom 5 but that's the TOC from 8 chapters ago but the editors have acess to the previous chapter TOC a lot sonner. And in the chapter before the colour kuroko has probably ranked high but the problem is that we don't have acess to that.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Overall, I'm fine if a series that started with a low color count (Reborn and Gintama) ends up getting a lot towards the end of the year.

Bleach has been trash for years now so seeing it with high colors in both 2008 and 2009 is agitating. Stop rewarding bad writing please.

Beelzebub really doesn't need anymore color but I can at least buy it getting them because it is the strongest newcomer for 2009. Kuroko not so much when it constantly falls and was even in the tank for a month during summer but they gave it a color anyway. Those colors could have been given to other series that were hovering near the bottom or were struggling to get out. As a push of sorts since they sure as hell didn't mind saving Kuroko even when it hit last place.

I'm happy to see that at least Mago has gotten some more recognition. Sket could use some more as well.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I think the reason Kuroko and Beelzebub are getting so many colors is because they've been so successful. I mean, if we ignore Toriko and Bakuman (both of which are by established creators), it's been years since we've seen series do so well this quickly. Not since 2004, I think (someone correct me if I'm forgetting something).

There's no shame in Jump rewarding two of its biggest success stories over the past 5 years.

Would it be nice if series like Psyren and Sket Dance got more color? Yes, but that's not how Jump operates. Color pages are typically a reward for doing well.

Mago sells 100k in it's second volume and it's third volume break 100k during it's first week. Kuroko is nowhere near that successful

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Okay, Mago makes one series. That doesn't change my point, though. Kuroko has been a very successful series for Jump, and it's rare for a series to establish itself so quickly from someone other than an established creator. There's no shame in rewarding a strong new series with color pagers.

Has it been a tad much? Perhaps, but it's nice to see them giving love to new series instead of just Bleach.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I think the point was that both 2009 series that have established themselves have been given a ton of color while the successes from 2008 and before have not received quite as much attention. Even Toriko has had less color then Beelze and Kuroko. It's not so much that Kuroko and Beelze don't deserve some extra color, despite arguments to the contrary I think they do. New hits should be rewarded. I think a lot of people are taking exception to the fact that Kuroko will get color even after dropping to the bottom five and both series get color at the expense of other, equally deserving series.
