Luffy should not even be considered as a candidate though. I don't think we should consider anyone outside of BB's crew as a potential receiver of several fruits.

Maybe being able to have more than 1 DF, is a special ability that every D has...

He probably didn't go to shanbody but I think it is pretty certain he would have coating engineers do the job. I would think there are a few ways to get a good coating there, it only makes sense.

Paddling is an issue when coated. There is the inconvenience of sinking and the bubble would limit how the lizard paddles. Luffy could barely move when he was using the bubble underwater and sanji even had to get out of his bubble to use his techniques. In the most optimistic case the lizard would just be able to awkwardly move underwater and even that would be limited by the floaters which would have to be there. I don't think there actually are any practical points to having a boat eat a fruit in the end. What would happen if the animal panics when attacked? Its a boat in the new world, you can't have your boat running amok when attacked or have it be at its weakest during sea combat.

there's progression! the sunnylotl would start out as a stray lizard, but end up being a nakama ready to face dangers with the straw hat crew

this woudl be much like usopp. i don't see how this would be a firm enough reason to discourage the sunnylotl scenario

What you should do is have artwork of this "Sunnylotl" commissioned by someone. Might look neat. But I dunno, the idea sounds far fetched to me. We haven't seen nearly enough new stuff from Franky and Sunny yet to have Sunny suddenly getting more new stuff added to it. Also, this whole "Sunnylotl" business is getting confusing.

What makes more sense to me is it going to the dragon. Regardless of it getting the fruit though, that I was thinking was Kinemon might actually get the dragon as a pet. Seeing as how his predecessor Ryuuma had a connection with dragons , there could be a possibility some kind of correlation there.

As for Sunny eating the fruit, hmmm.. I don't know. Maybe I want it to stay as it is, or if it needs improvement, it will be due to Franky's skills as a SUUUPEEEERRR shipwright and not because of a fruit's abilities.

oh, and I believe that the fruit will definitely be eaten by someone/something towards the end of the arc, unless CC will be successful against the SHs and use the fruit repeatedly for its process in making weapons. You dont' see that happening though, do you?

We guess, it's going to be explained at some part of this saga. Oda said in the SBS he's going to make something up to do so. Just be patient.

I honestly hope that either Usopp or Nami get to eat the fruit since these two are the most "normal" among the SHs. Since the ability they would get (regeneration) is an entire defensive one, it wouldn´t ruin their fighting style.

the fruit itself is not logia, and has no poison properties at all

well if thats the case usopp will get it because on one of the covers where the crew were illustrated as animal usopp was a lizard so by foreshadowing i think he will eat it in order to feel up to par with his crew

To be precise, it was a chameleon. But that had nothing to do with Oda's vision, he just drew a special splash page for the Strawhats animals figures that were coming out at the time.

In SBS Oda answered which animals best represented the strawhats. A majority of those animals were different from the figure line. Oda's choice for Usopp was an armadillo. Either way, I wouldn't expect any of the strawhats to get new fruits.

I don't really 'expect' anyone of the strawhats to get the new fruit. But it would be really cool if Usopp's weapon got it! Or Usopp/Franky create a new weapon with it! It would just add some more cool stuff to the strawhats who already have a huge assortment of cool stuff. (i.e Transforming Reindeer, Cyborg, Talking Skeleton, Flying Ship.) Will see though I doubt Oda has forgotten the fruit or added it for no reason. So it will have its time to shine... Right before it gets eaten!!!

At the time being I lean towards brownbeard. He is already part lizard to some extent and getting the fruit would perhaps allow him to regrow his missing legs.

well i think sara sara no mi: model axolotl is useless for normal human consumption me thinks. the animal itself is based on an aquatic (well actually amphibious species) that does not leave water unless a forced metamorphosis occurs. the only thing they have as a plus is their regenerative functions. unless oda wanted to show the world that these interesting creatures are endangered species, i cant for the life of me see any use.

that's basically impossible. although the animal itself in this world is amphibious in real world, it still is a DF. smiley could not go in to the water. besides i dont see Franky making sunny eat the fruit. it would totally ruin his dream about the ship he build.

there is nothing to discuss about it. for 15 years it has been established that DF users cant swim they are basically hammers. even it is oda and even this manga is a weird fantasy that will be making the foundation crack. i am already pissed about the fact that BB pirates do have a way to harvest more than 1 DF anyway, and a way to make DF users swimable would be the point for OP going down the crapper. some facts should not played with...

This is funny thing in OP - certain DF would be useless. Reminds me of the time when I was thinking about major trolling among DF:

1. Logia - Umi Umi no Mi. Aside from the rhyme, the user can't turn to the element of the logia, because it'd mean entering sea and turning back to normal form. There would be a way to use it, but the main advantage of logias is lost.

2. Zoan - any sea fish. You can't turn into the animal because you'd need to be in the sea (and therefore turn back human and drown) or somewhere else (and suffocate). It could survive in fish form in non-sea water, or as a hybrid

so it's not that much of a trolling.

3. joins the list, Sunny with a DF. But that's already been denied, and as things are going, I don't think anyone will get the DF (too much poison gas around).
