Honestly, I do see the Luffy being offered the position but he will deny it like he denies Hancock. Like others have said he is to much of a free spirit to want to become an "ally" of the government. But truth be told, we never know what is going to happen.

Considering how badly they wanted him dead during the war, I doubt they'd offer him a position.

I really don't see how the strawhats could be the most wanted criminals beside the revolutionary army. First off all the yonkou are obviously more wanted than the strawhats by quite a bit. Even then, I really doubt the rest of the manga will be about the strawhats against the world government. Surely enough there are plenty other pirates out there who are as strong or stronger than current luffy and the strawhats. I don't think the whole declaring war on the world government would really be enough of a deterrent if they wanted to make a shichibukai out of a strawhat. The issue would be whether they believe the strawhat in question would ultimately heed a calling of the world government should the situation come too. Even if luffy is not an option for whatever reason that still leaves zoro, sanji and perhaps even franky as viable candidates.
Power alone does not determine how wanted a person is. Chances are, Shanks and Whitebeard were both more powerful than Dragon, but Dragon declared war on the WG and is planning on completely unraveling the WG, so Dragon is marked as the most wanted criminal. Luffy (and the Strawhats), similarly, declared war on the WG, destroyed Enies Lobby, dismantled Impel Down (which led to the release of thousands of criminals, some being top priority), and helped destroy the Marine Headquarters. He's practically part of the Revolutionary Army with all the he's done XD

I wouldn't think so. They keep to themselves, none of them are responsible for the humiliation that the WG faced at Enies Lobby, Impel Down or Marineford (their three strongholds). Luffy is. Short of Dragon, I think more than anyone else they want him dead.

Well, the very acts of defiance could also be seen as reason to make shichibukai out of one of them. The shichibukai are meant to scare the crap out of other pirates and that could be done beautifully by someone who has singlehandedly defied the single most powerful organization out there and to a great degree succeeded (even if the efforts of other powerful forces where the main reason ID and marineford were a sort of success). The tenryobitto part is a greater deterrent from making a strawhat a shichibukai than the 3 fortresses part IMO.
Did you just call declaring war an "act of defiance"? The WG offering a Strawhat a position as a shichibukai is akin to the US having hired Osama bin Laden as a secret agent.

dont think he would be offered the position after enes lobby incident itself... after that,
defeating another shichibukai
attacking a tenryubito
impel down
rescuing ace....

to add to it, he is dragons son, there is no way he will be offered....

No.

Because, the whole battle with the world G and the will of D which is essentially opposing the world governement would be pointless.

Second, I don't think that a single crew member could become a SB as it will disturb the crew and it's harmony especially if the interests of the crew captain are in no way in the favor of the world government.

For the plot's sake, I don't think oda would do such a thing.

Well, act of defiance was the words he used... Anyways, what pirate has not declared war to the world government in a sense? The very act of calling yourself a pirate is a crime.... Also, its not like the strawhats did those things alone. They had a small army of their own in ennies lobby, luffy had help from ivankov, inazuma, jinbe and crocodile (all of which were stronger than luffy IMO) and the only reason luffy actually got to be relevant during the war was because he had every relevant pirate there covering for him and garp wussed out of beating the crap out of luffy. Heck, the strong people around actually told luffy he was too weak to be in the front lines of that war....

I still think that luffy being the son of dragon is the only real deterrent from offering him such a position. It's not like ace was not offered such a position even though he was the son of roger though. All the other strawhats should be perfectly viable candidates at some point though.

Lets also consider the pirates of the sun. Their captain trashed majiroa and jinbe fought and defeated countless marines and he was still offered the position and even the nobles had to accept it.

It's one thing to be offered the job and another completely different one to take it. The thread is not about whether a strawhat would take such a position but rather whether the government would consider a strawhat for such a job.

The WG would know that noone of them would accept so there's no point in asking.

It's an obvious no, cause Strawhats won't accept such an offer and even more important is that Mugivaras crossed the most important line: they directly declared War against the World Government and their Captain Luffy participated in trashing all three main facilities of WG and also Mugivaras kicked three Tenryubito's asses.:)

If in the future the crew needs the Shichibukai's privileges to fulfil a specific purpose or save someone, Luffy, Zoro or Sanji might accept the invitation (or request one), but I think it is really improbable.

I'd say it's possible Luffy will be offered a Shichibukai position - perhaps even Zoro, as well.
I mean, why wouldn't they? We know they don't mind electing D's as Shichibukais (Ace was offered the position, and BB was a Shichibukai). Luffy & Zoro are both infamous enough to use as a political weapon designed to scare people away from a path of piracy. The only reason for the WG to avoid offering Luffy the position, as I see it, is if they consider Garp's attitude. If they do, and learn that Luffy is largely the same, then they'll realize it's no use.:)

These are all legitimate points, but I have to disagree when you say that "all pirates have declared war to the world government in a sense". You have to be careful when you're talking about a "declaration of war..." The very act of calling yourself a pirate may be a crime, but it's quite different from an active declaration of war. I think that very few pirates have actively declared war on the government, or were considered strong enough threats to the WG that they declared war on the pirates. Obviously, Dragon actively declared war on the government, one of the reasons that he's considered the most wanted criminal in the world. Gol D Roger probably never actively declared war on the WG, but his knowledge of the poneglyphs/blank history and his influence as Pirate King was enough of a threat to the WG that they essentially declared war on him. Whitebeard also actively declared war on the government to rescue Ace.
These were active declarations of war: after these events, there's no way that the WG would offer shikibukai positions to any of these men were they all still alive. In the same manner, Luffy has been considered to have declared war on the WG twice (his burning of the Enies Lobby flag and his ringing of the bell 16 times at marineford), and I don't think the WG will ever offer him a position.

As you noted, however, Jinbe was offered a position even though he fought and defeated a ton of marines throughout his career, and his captain trashed the holy land. In this way, I think it is possible that other members of the crew are offered positions, but not while Luffy's still alive. It'd be foolish of the WG to offer a position to... say, Zoro or Sanji while their captain is still at large. There's no way that they would abandon Luffy to join the Shikibukai, and the WG would just lose face by offering a position that they know would be shot down immediately.

Also, when you brought up your Ace example, I don't think the WG was aware of his being the son of Gold Roger. http://www.mangareader.net/103-17410-4/one-piece/chapter-552.html if you look here in the flashback, they say that they have no background information on where this new D. appeared from. If they had known he was the son of Roger, I highly doubt they would've offered him the position, since they considered his very existence to be a crime.

Luffy's done too much to be considered a Shichibukai. It would make no sense for the World Government to ask someone who's directly attacked 3 of their main locations, not to mention him being Dragon's son. In the case of Jimbei, he was asked mainly because he was a fishman, to display some sort of friendship between fishmen and humans.

Can't see them as Shichibukai, not from boths point of views, at all...
Luffy is a free spirit, he dosn't want to be bound by someone, issn't that what his dream is all about? freedom and adventures?

While Shichibukai should be fearsome, they should be working for the World Goverments interest, and the Mugiware do whatever they feel like... If they ever got the title, it would ve very very shortlived considering Luffy does whatever he wants in a given situation.

Gotta agree with other post's, while it would be interesting, it's highly unlikely considering all Luffy's done.. :darn

Pre time skip I would have considered this impossible[...]
Considering the Straw Hats accomplishment before the time skip, I definitely believe Luffy was Shichibukai material even then - if it weren't for the fact that his infamous deeds were against the World Government (his actions at Enies Lobby in particular). Hence, I don't think the World Government will ever consider a Straw Hat for a Shichibukai seat; they have, both publicly (EL, ID & the war at Marinford) and secretly (defeating Crocodile and Moriah), agonized the the WG too much.

Remember the point of the threat is NOT about the strawhats being willing to become shichibukai but about the possibility of the world government offering any of them the position. I get the impression many posts mix both ideas....

I don't agree with the shichibukai working in the world government's interest though. based on what we have seen the world goverment has virtually no control over them. Mihawk regularly does as he pleases and he was said to rarely attend the shichibukai meetings. heck, mihawk trained zoro to the point where zoro acquired an amount of strength which would be relevant in the grand scheme of things, hardly something someone loyal to the world government would do... Flamingo was behind a good deal of the slavery business in SA. heck, he even told a high ranking officer he was not going to follow orders. Moria and crocodile had enough freedom behind them that they managed to build enormous armies without the world government noticing. Boa was originally less than willing to fight for the world government and even during the war she indiscriminately fought both pirates and marines. The world government has so little control over the shichibukai that what ultimately made them attend the war seemed to be the imminent threat of losing their shichibukai status.
