I can't go get my mum's diamond ring mate, I'm 21, I don't live with my parents. :P Haha, but yeah, you're right about the diamond thing. I asked some friends who are more knowledgeable about that kind of thing (ie. science) and one told me it's actually very brittle. Can anyone think of another substance besides steel that would be better for this technique?

As to the first part of the post, are you talking about Cure: Enemy? If so, then check my explanation of it in this post. I suppose maybe it technically isn't an Enhancement ability (unless you consider Shū to intrinsically involve Enhancement), since it's just an application of Shū, but anyhoo, read that post and it should be clear.

I don't think it's any type either though. Hmm, depending on the exact definition of Hatsu, it may not be Hatsu at all...

EDIT: "Hatsu (發, Release) is the release or transmission of one's aura so it can be projected to carry out a certain function. In essence, Hatsu is one's personal expression of Nen that creates a special and unique ability."

Then this ability is Hatsu, since it does perform a certain function, though this definition means that what Hatsu is pretty flexible. Whether something is a Hatsu pretty much depends on whether the user calls it one. Not sure if it's Transmutation or Enhancement though. It doesn't work like a poison (I think you misunderstand the technique), but it could be said to alter my nen to give it damaging properties. But then, I suppose any nen-boosted punch or kick does the same...

Greed hardness from FMA was because of carbon? Maybe that could replace the diamond...

Well, it seems I did misunderstood enemy but that is because it would not really be a technique nor it would have an effect on even low level nen users. Hisoka has been shown to be a remarkably powerful and evil nen user. Even then, his aura did not have an effect on gon a killua once they developed their aura. "Malice" is remarkably easy to defend from even in extreme scenarios, it just takes basic use of nen. More so, extending shu over an enemy is a terrible idea. As shu is basically an extension of the aura around your body around something foreign, it implies you will have less aura to defend yourself as the same amount of aura would cover a larger area. more importantly, it is unlikely the enemy would even need to use ryu as the amount of aura you would be putting over him would be small to begin with (unless the extreme scenario of you having a significantly greater amount of aura around your body to begin with).

Moreover, if you want to start talking of how properties of aura give rise to Hatsu, then answer me this? What property of aura is it that allows Br Blythe to perform surgery? Or Crollo's book to steal abilities? Or Feitan to transform pain into aura? Or Shalnark to manipulate people? Or Hisoka to make his aura stretchy? Or Kunckle's to seal someone's nen? This list is endless - my point is not to be facetious, but that we shouldn't get hung up on "properties of one's nen".
Pitou is an specialization which seemingly creates a doll with the tools to perform the surgery (can't be sure if the doll is emitted or conjured though). Not sure how this is not clear lol. Crollo is a specialization user so his ability in itself does not fall into any category. The book itself in conjured though. Rather than feitan transforming pain into aura, I would argue pain and damage work in a condition/pledge scenario to strengthen him. Shalnark is plainly a manipulation user, his nen controls people. Knuckle imposes his nen over others and makes them remain in zetsu. Hisoka is the easiest, he flat out uses transformation to make his nen have the properties of gum and rubber. I think you misunderstand what we mean by giving nen properties....

Now, as for what material to conjure I don't think that should be the focus of your ability. For starters, the manga has already shown materials which are far more exceptional than anything in real life. With the sheer strength manga characters have (killua has the nen amount of a mid level hunter and he is able to open 3 gates of his house) it is already far more than enough to pretty much punch through any alloy known to us. in this regard, the material in itself which you want to materialize should be somewhat ambiguous (in this case, you could just say you are materializing crystal) and from that point you should focus on the conditions and pledge which you need to use the techniques and give it the techniques you want.

Define "technique" in this context. If, by it, you mean "Hatsu", then fair enough, that may be the case.

Malice alone, yes, won't do much, but this technique is malice + direct contact with the target + a higher concentration of nen than Hisoka's thin barrier.

I wouldn't put Shū around the opponent's whole body. Obviously that would be suicide, since I'd be undefended, and the enemy, as you say, wouldn't need much to defend against the thin layer of nen I've surrounded them with.

I meant putting Shū round one small part of the opponent's body, say a muscle or part of a bone. That way the amount of nen I need to enfold it is far less, and I can enfold it in a greater amount (per inch).

The fact that Wing is able to crack a wall with no force whatsoever shows that this technique is, in theory, possible, since it operates under the exact same principle. I understand and agree with your point that against someone with nen (ie. in practice), it's a very different matter, and is not always going to work. No technique would; the same rules apply as with any clash of two people's nen; whether an attack is successful or not depends on the attacker's state of mine, the strength of the attacker's nen, the amount of the attacker's nen used for the attack, the defender's state of mind, the strength of the defender's nen, the amount of the defender's nen they used to defend with, and so on.

As I've said, this technique has less destructive power than a punch using the same amount of nen by someone with the same amount of skill and the same state of mind and against the same defender (since a punch is intrinsically destructive). And maybe a larger amount of nen would be needed than with the punch, but as I said, it's another trick the opponent wouldn't be expecting, and if they know of the technique, then like Jajanken, the use of feints could be used to confuse the opponent.

Anyhow, if a technique works in theory, then it can work in practice (note 'can', not 'will'). In a nen battle it's down to the strength and ingenuity of its user. And the strength and ingenuity of ME in a nen battle isn't something that we can test out (unfortunately). :P

Pitou is an specialization which seemingly creates a doll with the tools to perform the surgery (can't be sure if the doll is emitted or conjured though). Not sure how this is not clear lol. Crollo is a specialization user so his ability in itself does not fall into any category. The book itself in conjured though. Knuckle imposes his nen over others and makes them remain in zetsu. Hisoka is the easiest, he flat out uses transformation to make his nen have the properties of gum and rubber. I think you misunderstand what we mean by giving nen properties....
My questions were rhetorical; they were meant to point out that logic only works up to a certain point with nen. For example, how does Knuckle's nen force someone into Zetsu? That's a question that can't be answered with logic - you can only explain it given the rules of nen. My point was that we shouldn't look for logic within nen abilities, because eventually the explanation comes down to "Because that's how nen works."

Man of Diamond doesn't involve any Conjuration, it's Transmutation, but I understand your point; nen beats diamond (or whatever), any day. But Transmutation, I think, doesn't turn your nen into the substance, per se (at least it doesn't have to), it gives it the properties of said substance. An example of this is Gon's Scissors, which gives it steel's sharpness, but it doesn't actually turn into steel. If it did, it would be less useful than a normal nen attack.

So, this technique gives it the hardness of diamond (or whatever material is best suited for the job :P), it doesn't actually become diamond. It's hard to describe, but it makes it like nen-infused diamond? This isn't something I'm certain of, but that's how Transmutation seems to work to me. It seems that you can grant nen all of the properties of a certain substance (effectively turning it into the substance itself) like Killua's lightning seems to be. This isn't something I'm sure about though, by any means. Maybe it could be discussed in the nen combat thread.

Well, it would kinda be a technique (as to be fair enhancers use simple techniques for the most part) however even if that is the case the technique your described would not possibly have the effect you want. I was not talking about extending shu over the entire body of the enemy however the fact of the matter is that whatever amount of nen you use for shu will result in less nen for your defense. Ultimately, shu does not involve a concentration of nen so in that regard you would invariably be attacking with a relatively low amount of it (with your description of the technique anyways) unless you use ryu and then shu. This would in turn further weaken your own defense. I don't think malice in itself would even add more damage just because of closeness. We know hisoka and gon/killua from the fighting tower are universes apart in nen skill. How would malice in any form have an effect on someone of comparable nen skill?

Now, even if you do successfully use ryu with shu, the technique is still not adequate and the math would actually suggest you are wasting a ton of nen. The nen you are using has not been changed to have any specific properties to begin with (and base on the manga we really have no reason to believe malice or any other emotion for that matter can have an effect). In this regard it is plain nen which you are depositing for damage. The power of the technique would come from the amount of nen you concentrate basically. I would argue using ko would be simpler, far more powerful (due to adding the speed of the punch to the force of the amount of nen you are using) and have virtually the same effect (safe the shu).

Ahh, I see what you want to do. Interesting and it should by all intents and purposes be doable.

Yes it would result in less for my defense, but then so does using Gyō to enhance any attack - Gon's Jajanken lowers his defenses, for example. I wouldn't use the technique recklessly, though.

Ultimately, shu does not involve a concentration of nen so in that regard you would invariably be attacking with a relatively low amount of it (with your description of the technique anyways) unless you use ryu and then shu. This would in turn further weaken your own defense.
I should have said in my original description, that Gyō/Ryū would be used to increase the amount of nen I'd be using for Shū. Yes it would lower my defenses, but like I said, any attack does, and it would be a risk I would take into account.

I don't think malice in itself would even add more damage just because of closeness. We know hisoka and gon/killua from the fighting tower are universes apart in nen skill. How would malice in any form have an effect on someone of comparable nen skill?
I would have to say because Hisoka's nen was spread out (and he may have not been using a large amount of nen), rather than concentrated on a single focused point, though that's unprovable, and pure speculation.

It may well be, which is why I wouldn't be completely reliant on it. I'd use it when I can be sure it would be worth the risk involved. The other two forms of Cure would be my main "thing" anyway, so even if Cure: Enemy never worked in practice, I'd still be a) useful (as a medic) and b) I'd still have the balanced abilities of an Enhancer.

Huh, is that directed at me? Bit of a turn-around? :P

Couple new ones plus another revision:

Instant Weight Loss Program (manipulation, emission, reinforcement)
manipulate the weight of any nonliving object you have a close relationship with (have carried around for a while, received as a gift, etc); in order to manipulate a living creature, I must ask them a question related to their weight (You look thin, don’t you want to put on some weight? or You're looking a little big, want to try a weight loss workout regime?) and they must respond in a positive manner (yes, of course, etc) – after this, I have 15 minutes to manipulate their weight as long as they are within range)

Feel like there would be a lot of applications within and outside of battle. Not totally sure how possible this would be.

Rings of Saturn (emission, manipulation, transformation/reinforcement)
emit rings of nen to use against the enemy; silver rings are razor sharp; gold rings shoot a nen energy cannon, rings can be used as blunt force, more rings means more powerful cannon; crimson rings are used to increase rate of healing (around self or others), used as blunt force

This character would use Kali sticks (Filipino martial art) in conjunction with his rings.

Pyramid of Power (materialization, specialization?)
materialize a very large, 5 story pyramid; any person may enter with my permission, once the door is closed, the pyramid is impossible to enter or break; each level of the pyramid has a training program in order to improve your nen; level 1 is the 4 basic principles (ren, ten, zetsu, hatsu); level 2 is advanced training (shu, gyo, kou); level 3 would be more advanced training (ken, long term ren, nen sparring); level 4 is type training; level 5 is advanced type training

The character would be someone with a strong desire to help and teach and would basically give up offensive abilities for the sake of helping others. Trying to think of a way where the time could be slowed down within, but not sure that's possible.

Pyramid of Trial (materialization, manipulation)
materialize a large, 4 story pyramid; each level one must choose between 2 doors – first is to answer a riddle within 10 minutes, second is to fight with a conjured nen guardian of that level (sphinx, seth animal, ammut, serpopard); each level is progressively harder; a wrong answer to the riddle or admitting defeat/dieing against the guardian places the user in a 24 hour zetsu; completion of the pyramid forces myself into a 24 hour zetsu; Restrictions = opponent cannot die while attempting the pyramid; ?

Any help with adding restrictions would be greatly appreciated for the pyramid abilities because I know they both need some more. I'm not sure what would be an acceptable way to trap the opponent within the nen space.

Here are comments for the latest abilities:

Edited Wolf Brothers, Call of the Pack

- Since you're now making use of Materialization I suppose the Hatsu type of the use would now be Specialization. Specialization's neighbors, Materialization and Manipulation, are fit for what you're trying to do. Manipulation is there for their particular personalities and for their independence. It's also there for the Skuara-like ability to communicate with Wolves, although I don't quite get what you mean by being able to communicate with their descendants as well. You mean you can communicate with all Canines?

---

Rings of Saturn (Emission, Manipulation, Transformation)

- I really don't think you need Transformation or it's ability to cut through things by shaping your nen with this one. Why bother when you can shred through stuff ala-Franklin's Double Machinegun with your blunt force damage? Also, the conditions for the Zetsu imposition is quite easy, although I kind of get how it becomes hard (it's hard to force the opponent to stay in one place to set them up for the ring). I do think Zetsu imposition requires a lot more work than just getting that opponent to stand by for your attack. Finally, the Hatsu tries to do a lot of things at the same time, and they're all very powerful at that (edged damage, blunt damage, teleportation, Zetsu). Hisoka had a lot of crap he could emulate with his Deceitful Texture, but it's non-lethal and it could be easily exposed for a cautious, Gyo-using nen-user. He even had a very strict condition for it (he can only use it on thin surfaces, like paper and cloth). If you want to stick with all of those properties, I think it should be a multi-person ability. As for Tame's comment for Kurapika's ability having 5 properties, I'd say that would be valid for a Materialization ability, and for someone who has enough determination in them so that some could only be used for certain persons only. And the Zetsu-imposition condition was quite rough.

---

Primary Bullets (Emission, Reinforcement, Manipulation)

- It's like a Reinforcement-dependent version of Rainbow, Pokkle's Hatsu. However, I think any "explosion" requires Transformation, since Emitted nen inflicts blunt damage. I suppose Pokkle's had a little Transformation in the arrows to make them pierce things or crap, or maybe it actually only does blunt damage. Since Manipulation's there, why not have a Homing Bullet? Why not have a Delayed Attack Bullet, or a Timer Bullet or something? Or add some distance condition, like "the attack becomes stronger the nearer the user is to the opponent"?

---

Cure

- Cure:Self should have been more a more common thing for Reinforcement users but I guess most Reinforcement users in the manga like to bash stuff more than heal themselves. I have no problems with it, the concept behind it should be easy enough to get with common sense. Shu/Gyo use for Cure:Ally and especially Cure:Enemy is weird, though. It almost reminds me of Little Flower. I don't think Shu or Gyo is even needed for Cure:Ally; I think you just need to lay your hands or something on your target to heal him, like how Kurapika's Holy Chain Heal hovers around the broken part. Cure:Enemy is tricky since it's not really healing the enemy. I think it should be like "Accelerate Aging" or "Aggravate Existing/Dormant Disease" or something like that. I'd also like to add that you really don't need Cure:Enemy since Cure will somehow make you stay longer in the battle if you're careful enough to turn the fight into an endurance battle. Stay away from card-wielding magicians that can do a Spiderman impression.

---

Hands of the King

- First of all, the name. While it would make perfect sense for the LotR fan, it won't for peons like us who aren't. I suppose the user doesn't give a crap about other people's opinions then regarding the name. Another one is that I don't think knives are often used in surgery. I think what's used are scalpels. Or similar crap with names that completely escape me. Now about the Hatsu itself. I think the "chances of living/dying" conditions are too easy, and do not quite fit the healing/surgery theme. I think a surgeon does his best for the person, so chances of living/dying shouldn't be an issue for the surgeon him/herself. I think a proper wording of the condition should be

"If a patient dies by the user's hands while operating, the grief experienced by the patient's family as well as the user himself would become Mystery Points that strengthen attacks when the knife is used offensively".

On the other hand, I don't think medical instruments are intended for murder, so I would have the user use another tool, like a Butcher's Cleaver, or something like that. There should be some respect from the user for the intended purpose of a materialized object, so using a scalpel for murder just doesn't strike me as a worthy concept. A nice idea for a condition that occured to me that would strengthen the Scalpel when the Cleaver is used should be something like

"If there is a person that felt avenged when someone was murdered by the Cleaver, Mystery Points would be added for the success rate of surgeries done with the Scalpel".

Flashes

- I really don't have anything to say about this, except that the travel/teleportation condition is too much. I see the user moving in places where there are a lot of people, ie. urban places, to raise his Mystery Points and there would be a lot of vehicles for transportation there. I would think the user would be somewhat extremely lazy or impatient if he has to use this in an urban setting since I don't think a decent nen-user would have to rely on teleportation based on throw range when he could just run like the wind (Kurotopi kept up with people like Nobunaga and Machi). The same goes for usage in areas other than urban ones, because that will mean you're weakening the operative/destructive potential of your tools for transport, which makes little sense honestly. Finally, the Mystery Point percentage consumption-knife throw distance relations aren't expounded upon. But as you've said, Flashes is used for escape. I wouldn't know... Personally I would just train to move fast and think of crap to escape my opponent using more conventional means instead of sacrificing my trump cards' power.

Knife of Judas

- Haven't heard of instant death abilities in HxH, sorry. Instant deaths in this manga happen when there is a considerable gap in the detsructive power of the finishing tool/ability and sloppy defense of the victim. Maybe this would be suited for another manga (Bleach I think, or something). The Hatsu itself is pretty overpowered. I would just rephrase it as

"Mystery Points are awarded for every treacherous act commited with this knife. More will be given as the act becomes severe".

Working with Mystery Points to strengthen your attack would be, IMO, valid and balanced. Also, there should be depletion of Mystery Points for every use, as you have done with "Flashes", or else it may destroy the planet eventually, or something.

About the Hatsu type, I would have said that the knives should belong to Specialization instead. I don't see how this could become Manipulation because the effects and strengthening conditions are beyond the scope of Manipulation. Manipulation never manipulated abstract crap like destiny of course of life. Manipulation can only do one of the following:

1. Manipulation of concrete, non-living things
2. Manipulation of living things and their organs

By Manipulation, we mean "controlling their movements directly, or through specific instructions, and/or their forms".

Manipulators never "judged" anything. Sure, that would make sense for living things, because the Manipulator may think he knows better than the people he controls and therefore they should be controlled, "judging" them in the process, but how do you judge a non-living object then, especially objects you have an attachment to (since Manipulators use mediums they are attached to for Manipulating in most cases, as Illumi with his pins and needles, and Shalnark with his phone)? Manipulators just "control", and they are defined as thinkers for the reason that it needs a good deal of thought to properly control an object at all times.

---

Eyes Everywhere (Emission, Materialization)

I think this is a lovechild of Palm's and Novu's ability. Probably Leorio's as well, in lieu of Novu's (his ability doesn't need waypoints, I think). I don't see anything wrong with this, and I think this is an original method of teleporting with some surveillance on the side. For battle I do think this is mainly defensive, because in my opinion it's a lot of work just trying to sneak into blindspots using this ability. I do think this would just need Emission.

---

Soul's Book (Materialization)

Perfect for a kindergarten teacher or something, since kids are the type of people who have enough time to listen to stories these days. However I think this should be Specialization. It's just something that's way powerful for mere Materialization.

I imagine that the story has to have enough impact on the listener's minds since I think their thoughts are what gives the fuel for Materializing the items and not the ability or the story itself. I don't think it could just be something like, "cool story bro"-level of appreciation or something. This has to be the case since the Materialized objects stay Materialized even with the book closed, which is not the case in Kuroro's ability. Defining how much the story is liked enough for the Materialization of the object is where it gets hard. Additionally, since the listeners are what gives life to the object in the story, their interpretations of what the Materialized item looks like and what it does should directly affect the resultant object, despite the user's intended interpretation of what the thing should be. I also don't think the issue here is overcoming the power of the generated item but the actual harm the user himself may get into because of the power of the generated item, because there are good stories that don't end so well even for its main characters (an example would be Futurological Congress). The user may then think twice about telling a hax story.

There's something being mentioned about a successor once the owner dies or something. Although it's interesting for an actual Hatsu to be passed and in some ways become a curse to those who want to develop their own Hatsu, I don't think that person would even bother, since you mention having to "fight" and "solve" the book. It's like:

"Oh, hey there's a book there. What the heck it's attacking me! ACK! (I die, because in this scenario I have no nen)".

While you can claim that the ensuing battle is winnable and the ensuing problems are solvable, there is another point of the new owner even wanting the book. If he does not give a shit then he will probably get killed or will not solve the problems or whatnot. So I assume that the new owner will have an interest for the ability? Good luck, book.

Kurotopi's ability can't be used as basis for the argument of being able to create many items for this particualr Hatsu. Kurotopi can only copy items he has a reference of with one of his hands, and they all disappear within 24 hours, while yours are permanent. Aside from the items having the ability to resonate with his En, the items don't have additional abilities, which your story-generated items have. It's a bad idea to compare your ability with Kurotopi's actually.

---

Schadenfreude (Reinforcement)

I think the power boost should be directly proportional to the "berserker level" the user experiences. Or you can adjust it to a level which you think is just. Additionally, the technique reminds me of Outrage, Rage, AND Fury Cutter from Pokemon (I happen to be playing the old Gameboy Color Pokemon Silver in a fit of nostalgia these days). About hitting consecutive hits successfully in a nen battle: Hisoka did it against Gon, Zeno did it against Kuroro, Biscuit did it against Binolt, the Machine-Gun Punch guy did it against the Teleport Punch boxer Devil, Zitoh did it against Morau and Knuckle. Point here is that it's surprisingly common, however, with your restriction, it becomes harder to achieve when the punches count the most, unless you've scared your opponent enough into a state of paralysis because of your blows (think of boxing an opponent into a corner or something).

---

Nephthys' Ankh, Anubis' Sarcophagus (Specialization)

Unfortunately for me, I don't understand the purpose of Nephthys' Ankh. Maybe an easier wording would help (me).

The Sarcophagus might be useful for asking dead people some crap, but I don't think people will believe you if you used the ensuing conversation for, say, a reference in a historical research paper. I also think the dead may just give you BS, because there's nothing in the ability to force them to tell you the truth. Maybe it's going to be good for those people who have enough affection or attachment to a person that they'd want to see them even for an hour. Battera I think would like to experience the benefits of this Sarcophagus.

---

Dragon's Roar (Emission)

If there was a nen-ability that would fit a worthy death metal vocalist, this would be it.

No problem with this ability. The fight's gonna be noisy though. Not helpful in instances where some degree of silence must be achieved. I think the user would be a straightforward guy who doesn't like any type of subtlety then. Reminds me a lot about that Ginew Force guy and some Bleach characters though. And Ubo, for sure, although he used a different approach.

Maybe this would also be helped by Reinforcement.

Also, could any voice-amplifying machinery be used in conjunction with the Hatsu to boost it up?

---

Hyper Cortex (Reinforcement)

A different approach for Reinforcement users who typically use brawn for their Hatsu. Still I don't think there are any problems with reinforcing an internal organ.

Man of Diamond (Transformation)

I think it's similar to Ant-Palm's Black Widow. Like Colossus with nen. Hardness is a property of an object, so I don't have problems with it on Transformation. Still, how does one train to put this property onto your aura? Wrap yourself in that hard object from childhood or something? Also, the user can also mold it into other shapes, like weapons. Though I don't usually imagine hardness with fluidity, I think it's possible with nen. With kkck's comment though, well you better move on to another material for reference of the hardness property.

---

Instant Weight Loss Program (Manipulation, Emission, Reinforcement)

Let me say again. Manipulation does one of two things:

1. Manipulation of concrete, non-living things
2. Manipulation of living things and their organs

By Manipulation, we mean "controlling their movements directly, or through specific instructions, and/or their forms".

Weight isn't a property manipulable or changeable with Manipulation. I would say that is a Reinforcement phenomenon. Or since you're dealing with both living and non-living things, Specialization.

Pyramid of Power (Materialization, Specialization), Pyramid of Trial (Materialization, Manipulation)

I think the spaces required for the pyramid to exist are too large to be Materialized for someone who is not Kurotopi and/or not using his restrictions and conditions. I would say that these would be Specialization, since these are not mere spaces, but are spaces that have particular functions. Also, I think these things need to have been brought into existence by two or more nen-users from other disciplines. They're like mini-Greed Islands. By the way, what are the activation conditions of Pyramid of Trial? You force your opponent into one? If it's Materialized, isn't it going to be way too easy since you just Materialize one where your opponent is? Zitoh had to "tag" Morau to force him into his savannah, which is mostly featureless, and requires the user to be stuck there with the foe.

And here are new abilities I came up with:

Bond of Friendship (Specialization)

To initiate the ability:

1. The user must be friends with the signatory. For example, the user must have had a level of friendship with the signatory comparable to the friendship of Leorio and Gon (at this point in the manga) or better, say, Killua and Gon (again, at this point in the manga).

2. The user must explain the ability wholly to the signatory.

3. The signatory should agree to all of the terms and conditions of the ability. It won't be initiated if the signatory is under the effects of Manipulation or any other crap that will force the signatory to accept.

The signatory will then have to sign on a Materialized piece of paper, called the "Bond of Friendship" with their blood to seal the deal. All signatories' names will appear on the piece of paper. The back page of the Bond serves as a chatroom for all signatories, and statements can be entered by simply thinking about them. The signatories can never express lies on the parchment, and if a signatory attempts to do so, the truth will appear on his/her entry instead.

The terms of the ability:

A person involved with the ability will be able to draw strength from other people involved in the ability when the person is in a dire need of great power. Therefore, no one should be able to invoke this on a needless whim. The term "strength" refers to aura, so it should it work even for non-nen users, since they also have aura in the form of leaky energy.

Once a situation that may invoke the ability arises, the one who is in that situation will then be asked to confirm or cancel the invocation of the ability.

When one is drawing strength from other people, other people's aura will of course be decreased. The person who invokes this ability though will enjoy more aura. The drain on the other signatories' strength is directly proportional to their own Potential Aura Power. For non-nen-users, the normal amount of aura that they leak.

For non-nen users who invoke this ability, they will act like they knew how to use nen, and will enjoy things like enhanced strength, speed, etc., except they don't have access to a Hatsu (since they don't have one, at least, not yet). Once the duration of the ability ends, the non-nen-using person will return to his state of nen-ignorance.

The level of friendship attained by the one who invokes the ability with the other signatories will serve as "mystery points", or multiplier. So, if the one who invokes the ability has a very deep friendship with most or all of the signatories in the bond, the greater the resulting mystery points granted.

The ability can only be invoked by one signatory at a time. When there is an instance where two or more people are currently in a situation that may invoke the ability, and when there is already a person using the ability, that person may opt to "pass" so that another signatory may use the ability. The signatories can see the people who are in a situation that may invoke the ability by summoning the "Bond". The names of the signatories who are in those situations will flash in green.

When there is treachery committed by a signatory to another signatory or the user himself, the name of the delinquent will flash in red, and the user must convene all signatories to decide whether or not the delinquent should be temporarily or permanently excluded from the Bond. Signatories who couldn't physically attend could just express their thoughts using the chatroom function of the Bond. If the treachery is done by the user to a signatory, the ability can never be used again.

If a nen-using signatory dies, his nen will strengthen and it will give a permanent nen increase to all aura appropriations once the ability is invoked by the signatory. It will also give a permanent increase to the mystery points supplied to each appropriation depending on his average level of friendship with all signatories. If a non-nen using signatory dies, it will give a permanent increase to the mystery points supplied to each appropriation depending on his average level of friendship with all signatories. If the cause of death is a disagreement between the deceased and another signatory, there will be no increases awarded.

---

Hallucination Camera (Manipulation)

The user instills a camera with his nen, giving it these uses:

1. The user can throw nen projectiles at opponents with the camera by snapping a picture of the opponent. The user can use it like a sniper rifle. The speed of the nen projectile is like the rifle used by the Sniper Ant possessed by Ikarugo when he fought Killua.

2. The main use of the camera is to manipulate the senses of a target. Here are the details:

- User captures a video of a place. The camera captures all the stimuli and action occuring in that place. The duration of the video and resulting file size depends on how much nen the user allots for that video to be saved. The user may choose to capture all stimuli from all angles at one point, and the user could choose to capture from several points by moving as he is capturing the video.

- The user must then hit a victim and shoot a picture of the victim with the camera to activate the main ability. The user must inflict enough damage on the victim with nen expenditure equal to or greater than the file size of one of the videos saved in the camera. Damage inflicted by the shots using the camera won't count.

- The victim will then be manipulated to feel as if he or she was in one of the videos whose file size was equal to or less than the amount of nen expended on damaging him/her.

- The victim will experience everything captured in the video. If the video the victim is "in" was shot in a very hot desert, the victim wil think and actually feel that he was in that desert.

- The victim can also only move in the way the user captured the video. For example, if the user captured a video in which he was walking straight towards a speeding train, the victim can only look forward and walk toward that speeding train.

- When a video is done, the user can opt to "move" the victim to another victim, provided that the nen he spent to inflict damage on the enemy is equal to the sum of the filze sizes of the video that was finished and to the next video he wants to transfer the victim to. This would be the case if the user chooses to "move" the victim to multiple videos, one after another.

- Since the victim is only subjected to sensory manipulation, the victim is in the same place he/she was in when the main ability activated.

- Any damage inflicted on the victim by any element of the video he/she is currently subjected to becomes real.

- The victim won't feel anything else that is outside of what's happening in the video. The victim would then not feel if his throat is being cut in real life but would feel a blizzard if that's what's going on in the video. The victim's passive defensive nen abilities still work though, but since his sense could only perceive what's happening in the video, the victim could not react against what's happening outside it.

- The user could opt to damage the opponent with nen once the opponent is under the effects of the video's sensory manipulation. The damage he will inflict would count to the required amount of nen for him to be able to "move" the opponent to another video once the current video is finished.

- Only one victim can be subjected to one video at a time, but the user can subject a victim for each video he has and can even move each one onto another video provided that there's no one currently "occupying" that destination video and that the user has inflicted the appropriate damage for each victim for the "migration" to happen.

---

Amplify Heat (Reinforcement, Emission)

The user just amplifies the heat that is already present in an object using his nen. The greater the nen used, the hotter the object becomes.

If the object is already hot, it will be easier for the user to heat it up.

Using Emission, the user could amplify heat in objects from afar, so that he wouldn't get hurt in the process of amplifying heat.

The user can't amplify the heat of sunlight.

---

Gauntlet of the Seasons (Specialization)

The user materializes a pair of Gauntlets that has abilities that change depending on the season. The user cannot use the effects that occur in another season.

During Spring: The user is able to heal living things. The user can also opt to erase nen with this ability, but the user is only limited to erasing nen on one person for that Spring.

During Summer: The user generates intense heat from the palm of the gauntlets. The generated heat won't damage the user.

During Fall: The user could increase the rate of degeneration/decay of living things. Examples: The user is able to make a flower wilt, or make a person, or a part of that person's body become older, or make a perfectly good pizza rot in seconds, that stuff.

During Winter: The user generates intense cold from the palm of the gauntlets. The cold generated won't damage the user.

The effects could be intensified when more nen is applied. Since the offensive effects of the ability is kind of like Little Flower, they could be defended against with enough nen.

---

Here's a complete nonsense joke ability:

Random Nonsense Bag... of Absurdity (Specialization, Materialization)

The user materializes a bag, from which he can pull out a random object imbued with a random ability that might not even make sense for the object. The user could even pull out living things, and they're also imbued with a random ability.

Example: The user might pull out a microwave oven, and the microwave oven spews out money.

The user will know what ability the thing he pulled out possesses because the bag will give him a piece of paper that says so.

The thing is, the object pulled out and ability imbued could only be something that the user has already known about. If the user pulls out a human from the bag, that human resembles someone the user knows, but not necessarily personally. If the user pulls out a human being, it will act like how the user remembers that living thing. So if the user pulls out, say, an animal he has only seen from a book, that animal won't move one bit by itself. It's alive, though, so it would do things like respire, and its organs would work, etc.

So, using the above example, we know that the user has definitely known about a microwave oven, and he must have already seen something that spews out money.

If the user pulls out a non-living thing imbued with an ability only a living thing could normally do, it would try to move like it's actually doing that ability.

For example, if the user pulls out a grandfather clock, and the ability it's imbued with is "it does the cripwalk", the grandfather clock will move around flexibly trying to do the cripwalk.

The things the user pulls out of the bag has no weight for the user, so the user can effortlessly lift a house that he pulls out of the bag. However, the things pulled out has actual weight that corresponds to the actual weight of the reference object. So if the user decides to throw that house he pulled out of the bag at a random guy that doesn't know nen, that guy will be squished for sure.

Additionally, the bag has a personality that does one thing: It blurts out a random nonsensical message every time the user tries to pull something out of it. But yeah, the words the bag blurt out could only be words the user has already known about. The maximum length of the message is equivalent to the longest sentence the user has ever known about.

There's no limit to how many objects the user could pull out of the bag in a certain amount of time.

The user can only pull out things no smaller than a fly, and no bigger than the dragon-like thing Ging Freecs rode on (provided the user saw or knew something as big as that).

All objects drawn out of the bag would disappear after 24 hours. This is the only way the user could get rid of the stuff he pulls out of the bag.

---

Fate Booster Pack (Specialization, Materialization)

The user materializes a booster pack containing 15 cards.

Here are the things one will see on the card, from top to bottom:

1. Name: Well, this is the name of the card's subject. The subject is a specific noun (person, animal, place, thing, food).

2. Picture: It's a picture of the card's subject.

3. Task: It's a piece of text that states what the user should do with the card's subject. Once the task is completed, something lucky will happen to the user.

4. Greatness: This determines how great the lucky thing would be once the task is completed. It also determines how hard the task might be, and the card's rarity. It's divided into four categories: "Nice", "Cool", "Awesome" and "Epic".

Here's a sample card:

------------------------------------------------------------

Ging Freecs

[Picture of Ging Freecs]

Punch Ging Freecs in the face in front of 10 or more people.

Epic

------------------------------------------------------------

The cards stay materialized for up to 24 hours.

The user could give a card to other people. The recipient of good luck obviously falls on to whomever completes the task indicated on the card. If more people successfully complete the tasks, the user increases his chances of getting an Epic card. Also, if more people fail the tasks, the user decreases his chances of getting an Epic card.

In one booster pack, there could be up to 3 Cool cards, 2 Awesome cards, and 1 Epic card.

The user can only materialize one Fate Booster Pack per day.

---

Well, below is a real douchebag ability, but I don't doubt someone could come up with it if people really had nen abilities. So I'm sorry if it's going to offend people.

Natural Playboy (Specialization)

The user materializes a magazine where he keeps a record of women he knows. Each page is dedicated to a woman, and that page displays a picture of that girl that the user finds the most beautiful, and some information.

The user becomes more powerful as more women in that magazine has a deep romantic relationship with him.

- There are 4 Affection levels that indicate what kind of relationship the user has with a woman in the magazine: Acquaintance, Friend, Lover, Soulmate.

Acquaintance-level women provide +.25 Mystery Point
Friend-level women provide +.50 Mystery Point
Lover-level women provide +.75 Mystery Point
Soulmate-level women provide +1 Mystery Point

The user also becomes more powerful if the women that are in the magazine are the ones who have qualities that really suit his tastes.

- There are 4 "stats" that determine how much a woman suits the user's tastes: Looks, Intelligence, Attitude, Affection. The highest stat rating is 100. If a woman averages about 90% for the four stats, the user gains +1 Mystery Point.

These Mystery Points serve as multiplers for the user's nen applications (everything from Ten to Kou and even Zetsu and In. En is also affected, resulting in a greater range). This way, opponents might think of the user as a Reinforcement user because of the massive strength gains.

Also, the stats change real-time depending on the course of the user's relationship with the women, so the user has to effectively manage his relationships to get the best out of the ability.

There are also "Failure" levels for each woman who has reached a Lover Affection level: Bored, Unhappy, Angry, Breakup.

Bored-level Lovers provide -.25 Mystery Point
Unhappy-level Lovers provide -.50 Mystery Point
Angry-level Lovers provide -.75 Mystery Point (nullifying the Lover status Mystery Point bonus)

Once a Lover reaches Breakup level, The woman is erased from the magazine, and gives the user +2 Mystery Points that is used only for the supporting Hatsu, Heartbreak.

Heartbreak (Materialization)

It's a sword that stores all the negative energy resulting from a Breakup. Once it hits an enemy, the enemy feels the corresponding depression stored in the sword. So the effects ascribed to depression would be observed on the victim. If the negative energy is great enough, it will cause the opponent to kill him/herself. All the points stored in the Heartbreak goes back to 0 when it is used, so this ability is basically a desperation move. It's also a Curse-type Hatsu, so if the enemy is able to avoid killing himself, he/she will just bear the depression until a Nen-Eraser erases the nen from him/her. Based on this information, we could say that the Heartbreak Curse can be inflicted on multiple opponents who could go on without killing themselves.

Supposing the user is killed when Heartbreak is active on a victim, all the Mystery Points stored in Natural Playboy are transferred onto Heartbreak. If multiple targets are afflicted with Heartbreak, all Mystery Points stored in Natural Playboy are divided equally amongst the targets.

Warning! Formidable Walls of Text Ahead!

Came up with few new ideas :)
Wicked Fox: Transformation and or Materialisation
This allows me to summon two kitsunes (those cool spirit-like japanese foxes). These have the ability to transform into an object (both animate or inanimate). They can mimic properties such as appearance however their weight never changes and if they take a hit they return to their original form. They can only transform into the last thing that they have touched. The transformation only lasts for 3 minutes.
Shadow Play: Manipulation+emission...maybe specialisation I dunno
This allows me to manipulate may shadow however not like shikamaru from naruto lol. My shadow can leave me and tarvel however only along other shadows eg. I step on a shadow of a car it can move across that shadow onto an adjacent one and so on and so forth. Once my shadow connects to that of someone else then it can "eat" their shadow. Whilst their shadow is being eaten they are impervious to damage though if their shadow is consumed then they revieve all damage that was inflicted during the eating process. The eating process involves my shadow eating the nen of the opponent and draining it. The larger their aura the longer it will take. If my aura is larger than their's it will take considerably less time. If their shadow is completely eaten then they are placed in forced zetsu. They lose their shadow and my shadow can take it's place. Whilst they have my shadow I can swap them with it e.g. Have the oppoenent become a shadow and my shadow be like a 3d object (the only use of that is to trap them as a shadow). If i disable my ability whilst it is eating then all the nen/aura I have eaten returns to the owner and I must intiate the ability from the again starting with my shadow from it's origin (me :) ). It's quite complicated. I was thinking an alternative version would be that I couldn't damage the opponent phsycially whilst the ability was activated but any damage i do to their shadow with mine appears on their body :D
Space-Eater: materialisation
This space eater is a large kind-of fat snorlaxy-sackboy. Basically it can eat solid objects and spit them back out again and fly. If it eats an object made of nen it suffers indigestion depending on the strength of the nen :D lol. It moves incredibly slowly. Objects that it eats get digested after half an hour after that it's gone FOREVAAAAAARRRRARARARAR :) after an object is digested it gets a storage of nen. When it's stomach is full it will regurgitate in the form of a pokemon-like hyperbeam hahahaha. :)
Hide and well..fine don't seek: Manipulation, materialsation and a bit of emission
It allows me to materialise a sticker. Whilst this sticker is stuck to someone they loose the ability to acknowledge my existence. This only lasts for 30 minutes per person before a 3 hour break. By "not be able to acknowledge my existence" I mean: I'm removed from their memories, they cannot register me (they don't think i'm there even if they see me), in short they ignore me completely without realising :D.
Thunder Ice :Transformation
This transforms my nen into electricity however anything the current passes through freezes. Simples :)
Comfy bed: Materialisation
This materialises a room which exists in a different dimension-space-thing. It has a bed in it. When I am asleep in the bed time stops flowing in that dimension e.g I go in at 15:00 fall asleep and 15:15 when I leave it's still 15:15 for all you peeps who want a lie in :D. This can only be used once a day by one person a day (not only me and but no sharing!!!)
Onion minions: Materialisation
This summons some minions who set up a chopping board around people in the vacinity and chop onions reducing their visibility massively.
Paradox FTW!: specialisation
Nen has to be within human boundaries. My nen makes me a god which means I'm not human so I don't have to meet those boudaries which makes my nen so haxed that I can make it that I wasn't human in the first place so that I could actually make my nen able to make me into a God via going back in time and using my God abilities to give me this ability. :D winner (i know this is hugely flawed but what the heck... :D)
Enjoy sorry for text wall (must say I love that random object bag ability).

Interesting, although complicated to say the least lol. The silver ring would require emission and transformation. Both are rather distant nen types although if you are an emission a simple transformation to make the ring sharp should not be undoable. Gold rings is a good one, a pure example of pure emission with a nice condition which could result in a stronger attack. In a way it reminds me of phinxs hatsu where the strength of his next attack is determined by the amount of times he spins his arm. the crimson would work although perhaps the healing would be more effective if the ring only had that sole purpose (pledge and condition thingy). How about a ring for manipulating people too? a ring with no offensive capacity but if you put enough of them around someone you can manipulate the person to some extent. Maybe add in a time limit and an amount of rings in particular locations to make the technique more effective since you would be an emitter rather than a manipulator.

Replies to feedback (thanks NFW!):
Here are comments for the latest abilities:

Yeah, I think all Enhancement users have a quicker healing factor than nen users of other types, but my plan would be to specialise in it. :) Shu or Gyo might not be needed, but I think it would speed up the process.

"Cure" is a misleading name, since it doesn't actually involved healing or enhancing anything. However, since it's proved too controversial, so I hereby withdraw it from being part of my Hatsu. And yes, if I see Hisoka, I'm running away. I don't want him to cover me in that sticky substance of his.

Yeah, this ability would be almost entirely useless in close combat.

Schadenfreude (Reinforcement)

I think the power boost should be directly proportional to the "berserker level" the user experiences. Or you can adjust it to a level which you think is just.
Actually, I like this idea better. Thanks dude! The character could become more berserkery as he inflicts damage to his opponent, thus increasing the power of his attacks.

Dragon's Roar (Emission)

If there was a nen-ability that would fit a worthy death metal vocalist, this would be it.
Haha, I really like that idea! When I use this character in the RPG, that's what he'll look like. And no, subtlety won't be his forte.

Man of Diamond (Transformation)
Still, how does one train to put this property onto your aura? Wrap yourself in that hard object from childhood or something? Also, the user can also mold it into other shapes, like weapons. Though I don't usually imagine hardness with fluidity, I think it's possible with nen. With kkck's comment though, well you better move on to another material for reference of the hardness property.
Man of Diamond is going back to its original name when I posted it on nexgear: Man of Steel. I guess the user could train himself by become very familiar with a variety of weapons, especially bladed ones. Maybe do something like blacksmithing, and learn how to make swords (so that he has a better idea of how they are structured).[/quote]

And feedback:

Bond of Friendship: This technique is totally awesome! I can imagine a group of Nakama using it. And I like that there's ways to prevent betrayal.

Hallucination Camera: Interesting ability. Is there any penalty for making a less good-quality video? Otherwise, you could just make a crappy film, hit someone once, snap a picture and boom, you have them trapped.

The idea of trapping them "inside" videos seems a little redundant - once you have someone trapped, can't you just kill them easily, since they won't be trying to defend themself? Or have I missed something?

Amplify Heat: Cool ability - I like that it's an unconventional use of Enhancement.

Gauntlet of the Seasons: I like the idea of this technique, but I think exorcism techniques should either be more difficult to use, be more restricted or come with a higher risk. At the moment you can do it any number of times for one quarter of the year; if you made your technique known to the general populace then anyone who gets cursed would have to go more than 9 months before they have it removed, unless they're stupid enough to get themself cursed twice in one year.

With the Fall one, how quickly does it degenerate things, in particular humans? Or nen users?

Random Nonsense Bag... of Absurdity: Damn right Leorio is Epic!!

Natural Playboy: Douchebag indeed. Lol, the idea of treating your girlfriends well so as to earn points makes them sound like a Tamagotchi.

A couple more abilities:
Name: Libra
Type: Specialisation
Effect: The user must fulfill the following conditions:
they must know the target's real name.
they must place the palm of their hand against the head of the target.

The user then receives information to their brain on the target's Hatsu (if they have one). Information includes it's name, type(s), conditions, restrictions and effect. If the technique has any intrinsic weakness, the user will also learn that.

Name: Pumpkinbrella
Type: primarily Conjuration
Effect: The user conjures an umbrella. The umbrella is orange, and the design on it resembles the face of a halloween pumpkin. The umbrella can talk, and has its own personality. The umbrella has the following abilities:

Size Alteration: like Kurapika's chain, the size of the umbrella can be changed according to the user's will.
Durability: the umbrella can be used as an effective shield when opened. When closed, it can used as a melee weapon.
Projectile Attacks: the umbrella can fire blasts of nen from its tip. (Emission)
Rain of Pumpkins: a technique where the user channels a quantity of nen into the closed umbrella, then throws it into the air. It then opens, and from inside it, small balls (teehee) of destructive nen rain down, exploding on contact with any solid object or nen. The amount and strength of the balls are proportionate to the amount of nen channeled into the umbrella before it was thrown.

Other: The closer it is to a full moon, the stronger the umbrella: changes in size are quicker, durability is higher, attacks are stronger etc. Conversely, the further it is from a full moon, the weaker it is. If conjured when the moon isn't out (ie. the daytime), its strength depends on the waxing of the moon on the previous night.

I took 2 nen quiz i found in the web, they have different results one is Manipulator and the other one is Materialization but both of them have Transmutation in 2nd place. And since that's the kind of nen I want to have I'll stick to it >:D

Hatsu : Transmutation
Name: Muddy Substance
Transmuted item: Earth

Ability so create a muddy substance that can have any earths property in it, condition applies and raise depend on its strength.

Ability of Muddy Substance i can make it to any earth substance example if i stick it to you i can make it copy the element of gold, which is heavier than normal mud which can slow down your movements, can make it into anything I want since everything under the sun have the element of earth after all i just need to fully understand it and need to have the other elements property in case its needed, example I can make it into a molten platinum and since we are fighting in a snowy place that will cool down, harden and enfeeble your fighting capabilities, or I can make it a sticky marsh into your fist make your fist heavier, and if it connects it will serve as a glove to lessen the damage I'll receive, if it miss and hit another object I can make it really sticky to make the object it hit stick into it.

According to Hisoka I fit Manipulation. Since I don't have much imagination I don't usually post here... I thought of something, but I couldn't think of conditions or rules to this ability I figured I could ask help here! It is something made especially for a Gourmet Hunter:

Nen type: Manipulation
Effect If a person eats a food you prepared and says "It's delicious", you can control the person.

Great manipulation ability. It's nice and original, and the it's delicious condition should make your control that much more powerful. There's not much else to say. Really cool job.

Name: Phantom Limb
Type: Emission

Backstory:
The user lost his right arm from the elbow down and experienced phantom limb syndrome. He became so obsessed with the phantom limb that it actually manifested itself through his aura. He later generalized this ability to his entire body.

Effect: The user can create near-invisible copies of his bodyparts made out of nen (requires gyo or a special ability to see). The created nen limbs must correspond directly to real body parts (in terms of size and strength), and whenever a limb is created the corresponding body part becomes paralyzed and useless (for as long as the limb is in use). The bodyparts can be emitted at a distance of up to 50m without losing power, but only if the user has informed the target of his ability. It can be used at melee range without requiring an explanation. Furthermore, unlike the other body parts, the true phantom limb at his right arm is much stronger than normal.

Trump card: The user can sacrifice his other limbs to enhance the right arm. Each limb sacrificed will double the right arm's strength (an effect that stacks). The sacrificed limb becomes permanently paralyzed, while the right phantom limb gets bigger and bigger in proportion to his strength. For his ultimate attack, he can sacrifice his entire body from the neck down for a giant, insanely strong punch. It leaves him like Stephen Hawking, though.

@braindamage: I like this ability, it's dead cool. Seems like a flesh-out version of Sadaso's ability: http://hunterxhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Sadaso

Like Sadaso, this would mostly involve Transmutation, since it deals with changing the shape of one's aura. It would only [additionally] involve Emission nen when you use its long-range technique.

The limbs being inherently invisible isn't a practical feature; for them to be invisible they'd have to be made from only a small amount of nen, ie. not enough to help you deal any damage. You can overcome this by consciously using In to make them invisible.

The 50m thing seems too strong, but I suppose it would depend on your own competence, experience and natural abilities. If Emission is the character's primary nen type then obviously, the distance would be larger than if theirs is Transmutation.

The trump card is cool, and works; huge pay-off at a massive cost.

Some abilities I've come up with recently:
Name: Pumpkinbrella
Type: Conjuration
Details: the user conjures an umbrella resembling a pumpkin; it's canopy is orange and has a grinning face on it. It can also talk, and has a rowdy, coarse personality. It has various abilities and applications;

Variable Size: Like Kurapika's chains, Pumpkinbrella's size can be altered at will by its user. It cannot shrink smaller than its normal size (that of a normal umbrella), and cannot grow larger than double its normal dimensions.
Melee Combat: When closed, it can be used for close-range, physical combat. Shū is used to strengthen it.
Mid-range Combat: When closed, bullets of nen can be shot from its tip. Involves Emission-type nen.
Shielding: When open, the canopy can be used as a shield. Shū and Gyō/Ryū/Kō are used to increase its durability. Its ability to grown in size can be used to shield a larger area.
Rain of Nightmares: The user channels an amount of nen into the umbrella's closed canopy. When the umbrella is subsequently opened, a shower of explosive balls of nen rains down. The number and strength of the balls of nen are proportional to the amount of nen previously stored within Pumpkinbrella.

The character I have in mind for this Hatsu would use Rain of Pumpkins as follows: after storing the nen in Pumpkinbrella, they throw it into the air (still closed), and then, at the optimum moment, use Manipulation nen to open it from a distance, raining down damage on whatever is underneath. They can also increase its size to increase the range of damage.

Commentary: Rain of Nightmares would rarely be used as a killing move, since a) a lot of nen is needed to make it sufficiently damaging and b) opponents can see it coming. It would mostly be used as either a distraction, a feint, or to otherwise draw the target's attention away from any other surprises the user has for them.

The other weakness of this Hatsu is that it employs a number of different nen types, none of which are close to Conjuration.

Name: Milit-pede
Type: Conjuration
Details: The user conjures a nen beast that looks like this. It has a flexible and very durable body, and is 5m long, end-to-end. It has 25 segments, including its head, each of which is 20cm long.

Typically, the user has the beast wrap the back end of its body round his arm. Thus, by swinging it around, he can wield it as a kind of whip/flail, with the added benefit that he can Manipulate how the beast moves its body, allowing for a range of non-linear and varied strikes.

The beast can also separate the various segments of its body from one another (Emission). They cannot move by themselves, but the user can Manipulate their movements. Typically the user employs them as platforms to carry himself (like Shoot's hands).

Additionally, the user can separate some of the segments and manipulate them independently whilst keeping the others back for the whip technique.

Finally, the user can also conjure a much, much larger beast that looks like this. He can only do so on the grounds of his employer. If I ever get the RPG up-and-running, this technique will be explained in more depth.

Name: Blessings of Beelzebub
Type: Transmutation
Details: The user can perform a different technique according to the dominant taste of the thing he most recently ate ie. food that is mostly bitter will grant them one ability, whilst spicy food will grant another etc.

Spicy: The user can breathe streams of fire.
Sweet: The user can expel a sticky substance from their mouth. It can effectively restrict the movements of anyone covered in it, but it takes time to build up, and breaks down when more than 10m away from the user.
Sour: The user can expel a corrosive liquid from their mouth. It can cause severe burning on contact. The user can only use this technique once every three minutes.

Commentary: I haven't thought of effects for any other tastes yet. Any suggestions?

The character I have in mind for this technique is, no surprise, a Gourmet Hunter. They carry various herbs, vitamins and small foodstuffs with them to eat in battle and out in the field as and when they want to use a new technique.

Name: Bixie
Type: Specialisation, Conjuration
Details: An exorcism ability. The user must know the general nature of the target nen, the name of the target. The user then draws a particular large, ornate ritual symbol on the floor, and the person on whom the exorcism is being performed stands in the centre.

The user then recites a verse or two of poetry, making reference in them to the nature of the ability. At this point they then conjure a Bixie. The target nen separates itself from its victim, and the Bixie devours it. The Bixie then turns to stone.

Over time, the Bixie will gradually turn back from stone to its normal form as it "digests" the nen. The stronger the devoured technique, the longer it takes to revert. The Bixie cannot be deconjured until it has completely reverted, nor can it be used for another exorcism. The user cannot conjure more than one Bixie at a time.

Finally, if the Bixie is destroyed at any time whilst it is reverting, the curse is amplified and then transfers to the Exorcist. In some cases this will result in the death of the Exorcist.

The time it takes to revert can be anything between a few hours to years. Typically it takes a number of months.

Name: Psychic Surgery
Type: Transmutation
Details: The user transmutes his nen to gain the properties of various surgical tools. He can transmute many different tools at once to basically become a one-man surgical team. He can extend the tools away from his body via threads of nen, and manipulates them to position them wherever he needs. This also leaves his hands free to perform the most vital and tricky parts of the surgery.

In battle this Hatsu provides him with a close-combat ability, or he can alternatively use the nen-threads, with nen-scalpels attached, for mid-range attacks.

Commentary: I have a doctor-type character in mind for this technique (not surprisingly). The one thing vital to surgery that his technique doesn't provide is anesthesia. That is provided by his assistant, who uses the following technique:

Name: Holy Water
Type: Transmutation
Details: The user transmutes their nen into a liquid resembling water in appearance. It has strong anesthetic properties; by applying it internally to a subject (ie. through the mouth), it will numb their senses in exactly the same way real anesthesia does. Typically they Transmute it from their hands (just as Killua and Hisoka do).

Applied externally (ie. onto the skin), it will temporarily numb the part of the body it is applied to.

Commentary: In battle, the user employs tactics of attrition; while trying to dodge the opponent's attacks they counter-attacking by throwing Holy Water at them or splashing them with it, gradually numbing more and more parts of the opponent's body, until the opponent is unable to function properly.

The drawbacks are that the water has to make skin contact to be effective (not easy against someone wearing clothes that cover most of their body); that only small parts of the opponent's body are likely to be hit in any one attack (unless the user successfully hits them with a large amount of Holy Water, which would require a similarly large amount of nen and would come with its own risks); and that since the user is in contact with the water when they Transmute it, the parts of the body they've Transmuted it from (99% of the time their hands) are numbed.

They can also use it to numb their own wounds, if they deem it appropriate or necessary.

Being materialization and using so much emission seems counterproductive. Gensuru, to create bombs away from his body, needed two other people's help and many conditions. To have explosive nen bombs away from the body seems more in line with emission or reinforcement. Manipulating the size is a good thing, but the bombs and nen bullets just make it seem like it would be very hard to get this to a usable level for battle. It might work better for a emission or reinforcement user because after you materialize it, you don't use materialization anymore, so the drawback isn't as severe.

I like everything up to the separated segments being manipulated. Materialization's inherent weakness is range. If someone can just effectively use emission and manipulation on a materialized object, they become pretty broken. I think it would be possible with the larger beast as the restriction of on the employer's ground is pretty strict. This is why I was glad Kurapika chose such a restrictive ability. If he took his time and created a well-thought out hatsu, he would be incredibly broken in the HxH world because of emperor time.

Being a Gourmet Hunter, the character should know there are only 5 primary tastes a tongue has - sweet, salty, sour, savory, bitter (some scientists also consider fat to be one). When you say taste do mean any flavor (spicy, minty, etc.)? Sweet is good, sour's acidic properties are good too. For bitter, you could have poisonous properties as many high pH level things are extremely bitter. Salty and savory are tough, maybe one could give a temporary stat boost or aid in your recovery.

Not much to say. I love the use of Chinese mythology to have a nice, extremely useful nen removal ability. The drawback is also pretty severe (which I feel is necessary for nen removal).

Really like the doctor/nurse combination! Doctor has a lot of good tools he can shape like thread, scalpels, and clamps. I think the scalpel/thread combo is a good attack application. The nurse providing numbing properties via another transformation user is also great. My only question is what do you do for suction? I don't know if that would be possible using just transformation.

And to keep the thread going:

Vishnu’s Vengeance (manipulation, emission, reinforcement)
manipulate 8 chakrams of different sizes; if any of the chakrams can be placed around the neck of another person, that person will be under the user’s control; removing the chakram removes the control (after 24 hours it disintegrates); 2 of the chakram can be used to form a teleportation link for objects that can go through them; one chakram is extra large and can be used as a balance board for simulated flight/surfing

Ash Mountain (manipulation, emission, reinforcement)
carry around a massive gourd filled with ashes that I would then manipulate for different effects; ash must be personally collected and placed in gourd by my own hands, or I would have to personally burn something and collect those ashes
I came up with this ability way back during the Greed Island arc, but now that I think about it, it is extremely similar to Morau's smoke manipulation.

Thanks for the feedback, Hunter!

That's fair criticism. To be honest, I thought up the name and concept of this technique years ago, but couldn't think of any unique abilities. In the end I kinda gave up and just gave it generic abilities. I think I suck at Conjuration Hatsu. :P I can think up a cool item or weapon I'd like to see a character using, but can never think of an accompanying ability.

I like everything up to the separated segments being manipulated. Materialization's inherent weakness is range. In my mind I intended the Emission technique to be reasonably close range - the user can only keep the segments fairly close to his body, in the same way Shoot uses his Rafflesia Hotel. This, I think, makes it not broken. That, and the fact that the user can't Manipulate the segments to do anything complex means that the separation isn't that useful, but including that ability means that he does at least have the option, should a situation arise where it would be useful.

Yeah, I read about different kinds of taste before thinking up their individual abilities. Because I couldn't think of any for salty, savory or bitter though, and because spicy was so obvious, I expanded it to include tastes beyond the main five. :P Having said that, if I could find abilities for the main five, I'd be satisfied, and I'd leave out spicy. I like the idea of poison though, and you've given me some other ideas. Thanks very much! :D

Not much to say. I love the use of Chinese mythology to have a nice, extremely useful nen removal ability. The drawback is also pretty severe (which I feel is necessary for nen removal).
Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty proud of this one. I'd been trying to come up with an Exorcism ability for a while, and one day I happened to be reading about random mythological beasts on wikipedia and read that Bixie are associated with exorcism, which gave me the idea.

Thanks again! These two, along with Bixie's user and a guy who specialises in poison (whose ability I'll post when I've fleshed it out) are, in my head, members of a small conglomerate of Hunters who specialise in medical treatment and who provide their services to anyone with the cash.

What do you mean by suction? Like, holding the water?

Feedback:
Vishnu's Vengeance: I like this technique, including the name. It's versatile, in that even if you can't successfully catch someone, you can still deal physical damage to them with the chakrams. The balance board is cool too; because it's not Conjured you have to carry it with you, right? Although, you could just fly around on it. :P

re. the teleportation ability: can any two of the chakrams be used, or a specific two? If it's any two then I think that would be over-powered, but if it's a specific two then I think it's restrictive enough to work.

To be honest, if I came up against someone using this Hatsu, I'd probably run away.

Ash Mountain: Also a cool ability. As you say, it's like Deep Purple, crossed with Gaara's sand. It's less useful than Deep Purple since you have to carry a heavy thing around with you (heavier than Morel's pipe), and I think Morel could probably produce more smoke than one person could comfortable carry. Nevertheless, I like this; I like the idea of a Hunter carrying around a huge gourd slung over his shoulder. How big are we talking?

Another ability:
A three-person technique used by a trio of siblings. Their small village was burnt to the ground as a result of gross carelessness on the part of a company owned by a rich and powerful man, killing their parents and many of their friends.

Name: Infernal Vengeance
Type: Conjuration, Transmutation, Enhancement, Manipulation
Details: The siblings use this technique in conjunction with one another, and cannot use their abilities separately. First, the middle child, the brother, Conjures a pair of gloves over his hands and forearms. These gauntlets have the ability of being heat-resistant and fire-proof; he then Transmutes the nen around his hands into fire. This is the only kind of fire the gloves are resistant to - against all other kinds of fire they are no more useful than a normal pair of gloves.

The younger sister then Enhances this fire, increasing its size and intensity.

The elder sister then Manipulates this intense fire to direct it towards enemies.

Commentary: This ability obviously comes with risks - taking out one sibling or separating them from the others will negate the abilities of the other two altogether. Plus, since they're combining their individual skills and nen pools into one giant technique, their power and their control over it is huge.

Their are only two chakrams for teleportation, and they are aided by nen writing/engravings. The user would just carry seven of them around his neck, and then the extremely large one (used for flying/surfing) would be carried on the back. Between this and the Rings of Saturn emission technique I thought of, it looks like the Ring Toss carnival game I worked over summers really stuck with me.

The gourd would be huge as the user would want to carry the ash around with them. Part of what makes the manipulation stronger (other than personally collecting/creating the ash) is that the massive, heavy gourd restricts the user's movements.

Not much too say, overall its basic set up is great. Two people are handling each step of the process so it'll definitely be more effective. I like the touch of the back story having their home burned so they will already have an affinity towards fire. I like that there is abilities people can use in conjunction with each other. It can add some really unique abilities.

I feel like materialization is always really hard to come up with, but here it goes:

Chimera Armor Dice (materialization, manipulation, reinforcement, transformation)

materialize 3 dice, each one representing a different part of what will become armor (head-helmet, body-chest/shoulders/back, lower body-legs/feet). Each die is the same and each face has 6 animals. By rolling the dice, the user can than materialize armor featuring the 3 animals that were rolled. The armor allows you to mimic the animals properties. If you roll all of the same animal the ability's efficiency and power increase greatly.

For a creature to appear on the die, the user must have researched them thoroughly, and spent a good amount of time (week?, month?) meditating and image training for the dice to have that creature's image. He must also be clear about what feature of the animal the armor will bestow upon them. This forces the user to seriously consider which animals to use and doesn't let them randomly change creatures while still giving many options. After rolling, the user cannot roll the dice again for another hour.

For example, image train a cheetah on the dice, and then while preparing the dice, image train the armor to increase speed. Or image train a shark and picture allowing the user to use gills.

I think the random element on top of the less parts of the creature = weaker the special ability granted makes for a pretty good restriction. Besides being useful in battle, it would also be very practical outside of fighting.
