Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

I believe that includes the first run of volume 4, at least from what Heiji posted in cafe. That's a very impressive number for such a new series. Hopefully the licensing announcement comes at Comic Con, I really want to buy copies myself.

After all the talk of Eren seeing into the future, I reread chapter 1 to see Eren's first dream. Now I want to know why he woke up crying. I can't remember any of his other dreams. Does anyone know what chapter they took place in? I'd love to reread for clues.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

It's not purely 76 pages though, because it consist of ch 19 (from last month) and 20. Don't know why they make it that way.
Now I want to know why he woke up crying. I can't remember any of his other dreams.
Didn't Eren always cry when he dreams about his father injecting him? Can't remember any other of his dream beside that one. But that has nothing to do with chapter 1, I don't think the reason Eren cried in chapter 1 has been revealed yet.

Thinking about it again, they made the announcement that the continuation of volume 4 can be read in the next issue of Betsumaga. So this mean volume 4 has chapter 14-chapter 18, normal chapter numbers. And chapter 19 is re-printed in next Betsumaga for this.

yup, magazine desperately trying to sale bessatsu magazine. put last month edition together with this month edition...what a waste of page.

and gaiden chapter is not included in volume 4.
i guess for story relation, it will be included in volume 5.
cause this month chapter has story about trying to communicate with the giants. and the soldier's name who talk with the giant was mentioned too. btw, i wonder if the last part of this month story mean that human's real enemy IS human...
oh, the news said that Shingeki no kyojin had been sold 4,17 million copy (vol 4 included).

The last part where the captured giants got killed do seem suspicious. As if there is someone who doesn't want more truth about giants revealed. Although there is the possibility it's just stupid soldiers that want to relieve their stress, but I doubt it, the chance is too slim.
So, giants are eco-friendly entity and using sunlight as their power source. Wouldn't that mean it will be easier to hunt for them in nighttime instead of daylight? Just search for drowsy giants and cut their nape. It's better than fighting them head on when they're in their best state basking on sunlight.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

Crazy theory but... What if the Titans are actually eating people because they want them inside to pilot them? Course their program could just be messed up at the moment so that they're pretty much after just eating humans. Obviously not everyone has the capabilities to actually pilot them the way Eren does, I'm guessing Colossal titan is also similar to Eren in that its probably a piloted Titan given that it also had that disappearing steam act similar to Eren's re-appearance and of course looking completely different from all the rest and showing human intelligence. Just a crazy thought of course.

Edit: Somewhat more convinced that Colossal titan is human piloted. I just realized Eren as a Titan had no impulse to eat humans - neither did the Colossal titan. So chances are there is no impulse for a titan to eat a human when it has someone piloting it. This is my wild guess about this at the moment.

But that won't explain why their nape is their weak point. Isn't the weak point is there because it's where their "pilot" should be?
And why would they attacked Eren even when he transformed then?

The simplest answer would be: because he kept smacking and eventually killing them. He was deliberately hostile towards them. For those guys it was kill or be killed, self defense.

For the nape your assumption is as good as mine, and we do have some back up for this in that this is where Eren emerged from rather than from the stomach as he should have been when eaten. After all what you swallow with your mouth shouldn't exactly have an entryway to the nape of your neck - where the spinal cord an skull would meet.

As for the Titans attacking Eren, other than aggression, its pretty clear that he's an odd one out I guess who know HOW Titans are actually able to identify things as we've not had any explanations regarding this. Do they necessarily have enough intelligence to recognize by face - which is scientifically speaking would indicate higher intelligence - or is it perhaps something else like his smell. They do perhaps recognize by face but on a possibly quite primitive level since they need to take such a good look at people - well their size wouldn't help them - so that maybe Eren's size would make it easier for them to recognize him. He after all does not have the stupid grin that all the other titans have so far carried - hahahaha a stupid grin is how to make the Titan's not eat you would be an even crazier theory. Or does he give out an aura. Colossal titan I'm not sure if the latter chapters show him around other Titans in close proximity but as of the moment we've not seen him close to them so who knows how they would react towards him as they do with Eren piloting a titan.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

About the giant facial expression, Isayama said in one of his interview that he made the face in one expression of emotion (joy, anger, pathos or humor) in purpose. So other than the colossal giant (who his face can be seen as all four of the emotion) the giant give one expression only.
About how they trace human, it's still not explained yet, but there's the possibility of smell. Almin survive and not get attacked by any giant at all when he lost his sense. Giants may not attacked him because he was drenched in giant's saliva so they can't detect him, or it simply just because giant Eren kill all the giants around the area.

Looks like I mistakenly giving spoiler in my previous post because I though the Edited Manga have reach volume 3...
Well, in volume 3, there will be a small flashback after Eren get swallowed by the giant, I guess you misunderstand it as Eren taking control of the giant who ate him.

You think the giants (except colossal and armor giant) have intelligence high enough to think of self-defense?
They even prioritize to attack Eren than human even when Eren was not attacking them, and to protect Eren the human had to act as bait so the giant eventually change their target and not attacking Eren.

I was kidding about the faces (hence the hahaha) and was expecting something more primitive like smell anyways. Colossal giant is clearly an odd one out from the rest. Either way I am emphasizing that these are crazy hypothesis since its so left field given how little information we've had so its not something to believe entirely.

You miss the point of the nape of the neck since with this hypothesis there is a logic that there is some type of relation between it being the giants fatal point and Eren emerging from that part the significance of this still unknown at the moment is what interests me. Which is why I said your guess is as good as mine since it was that correlation I was looking at.

And if the Titans are for piloting then if the loss of the nape - cockpit - would render them unable to be piloted then I would see that as being the reason for their immediate death as they'd be rendered useless. In fact using Colossal Titan as a possible example of a piloted titan he could have opted to escape from Eren's slash and return to original form precisely because the 'pilot' was located exactly at the nape of the neck. I really doubt that the Colossal Titan does have teleportation powers I could be wrong but it would seem more logical at this point to believe that its appearing and disappearing act is from being a 'piloted' Titan. Unless of course there is the possibility that Eren and the Colossal Titan are people capable of turning into Titans but still for some reason or another the nape of the neck and their location as a weakpoint and Eren's emergence from it is still a mystery hence crazy hypothesis.

Well, dogs have, mice have, spiders have, bacteria have. Plants are hypothesized to have defence mechanisms by releasing toxins (not really an intellect but still a reaction). Even if giants are far below primates from our world, I see no reason for them not to possess something every animal has. Save for the situation they are supernatural or designed beings.

edit: not that I think mangaka really cares but the mere fact those guys are bipedal would require quite a brain.

Well, in my opinion, all of the giants is "piloted". That's why their nape is their fatal weakness. They probably have completely merged with the giant body and loose their consciousness. And follow only the purpose they turn into giant, that is to kill human.
Also, the giant eat human, but because they don't have digestion system, they throw up when their stomach full, emptied their stomach so they can eat more human.
About the colossal titan, I doubt it's teleportation. I agree with you that although he seems to disappear, it's not because he teleport away, but because he turn back into his real form.
The problem is there is no trace of him when he's gone, and he came from outside the wall, so unless he's sneaking out, where did he come from?

Still, self-defense is not the reason they attacked Eren... And I think they're designed beings.
As their power source is sunlight, so they actually don't need to eat. And they're lightweight compared to their size, so they can walk in bipedal despite their size and not crushed by gravity.

Yeah the pilot of the colossal giant is definitely a human from the outside that much is certain I think yet... there is one human in particular I am suspicious about and its Eren's dad... I mean his going into town just before the attack and coming out rather unscathed really makes me suspicious. Plus its almost even dumber coincidence that when they talked about him lo and behold soon the Colossal Giant appears again XD.

One thing I would ask about all giants being piloted is that why was Eren able to pilot one of the giants if there was already someone there? Unless of course there is some type of hierarchy or something that allows him to override the current pilot. Even then how come not all of them are able to retain their minds at least to a level similar to colossal giant and Eren (well Eren has obviously no idea but at the very least he was able to avoid the impulse to eat humans). Course this could easily be answered that they're special XD Though there is one other thing I have noticed looking at Colossal and Eren titan which is that both have made their titans much larger than normal. While Colossal Titan is obvious in its freakish height I'm looking at the titan that Eren had merged with and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the 75M (the titans that were attacking seemed like the generic 50M) kind that Eren appeared as (course its not like it was mentioned that the Titan was 75M initially since I'm just basing it off the surrounding titans and so this is a rough estimate). Meaning the titan had grown considerably once Eren had piloted it.

So difficult to speculate with so little information all I can come up with are so left field ideas that it sounds so silly.

IMHO, Titans were built or created as weapons. Some organization started to creating them for world dominance. Its a nice theory you have, especially seeing how Eren became one and reverted back to his old self.

Isn't in volume 2 it's already explained that the giant size is 4-5m, 7m (non-bipedal type), 15m (Eren also this size) and 60m (colossal giant)? Although there's also 10m, 12m etc which are size variation of it.
There's some mistake in your base of theory, but it can't be helped. I already read into volume 4, while you're still at volume 2...

I guess I should not join the speculation until the Edited Manga reach the raw one, because I may ruin the fun for you guys.

In the contrary
I agree with Pixis that stated about the possibility the giants are created to create world peace instead. With a bigger enemy, human will unite blah blah blah. It didn't work out though, because even in the danger of extinction by giants, human still not united.

Yes I got the sizes wrong (I misread the font type) but point was Eren and Colossal was on the rarer - to unique height for titans. I don't recall the titan which had swallowed Eren being of the 15 M type given the reaction of Aramin. To the reaction of seeing Titan Eren later - being shocked at the appearance of a different kind of titan which should be rarer from what it sounded. So the growth in height is what seems odd. Then again it is hard to gauge the height of the titan which had eaten Eren as this is just visual checks and not exactly reliable.

Actually... Umm, nevermind. I also misunderstood about it when I reach into volume 2, so I won't say anything for now. You won't be able to know about it without reaching the next volume anyway.
I think 15m is not that rare (at least not as rare as female giant who still haven't appeared yet), the beerbelly giant who got smashed by Eren looks the same height. Also Armor giant seems to be 15 m in size. Some of the giants surrounding the building in volume 2 also tall enough to be classified as 15m class, I think.
The one who ate Mina (the braided girl) and Sasya failed to kill probably 4-5m class, the one who ate Eren's leg is 7m class (as he is not bipedal), so I think the giant who ate Thomas and the bearded giant who ate Eren is or nearly 15m class, as they look taller than the 2 previously mentioned.

haha:tem, i can understand your feeling, wanted to argue people for their wrong predictions and estimations. so much gap in information gained between people who only read until scanlated volume 2 and those who read all the chapters. hopefully more people who read raw version gathering in this thread, or at least the Edited Manga quickly catch up with the monthly raws.
