Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I will give the volleyball-manga aalso a chance, because it´s rare to have a Shonen-Sport-Manga with volleyball theme. And it´s thousand-times better then a another soccer- or baseball-manga serisouly.
In my opinion, sport-series haven´t a good time now, because they will get axed soon ( e.g. "Meister" ). So I prefer Sport-Series more from "Shonen Sunday" or "Shonen Magazine".

@Magico: I like it, although it hasn´t the best story-plot and a predictable dialog. I love more the characters and the funny moments of the manga.

Sket Dance is really low.. but the chapter wasn't that bad at all I think...
Glad to see Nisekoi at this place. But this week is not my favorite :-_-

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I'll read the Volleyball manga. I really do enjoy Furudate's work, and I want him to succeed. I think writing a sports manga (that doesn't involve soccer!!!) in the midst of a bunch of new romcoms gives him a huge advantage this time.

I'm absolutely certain that Pajama Girl or whatever it's called is going to fail. The title alone makes me think that. And hearing that it's a fantasy romcom makes me even more confident that it will. Harisugawa failed, Magico struggled for months and would've gotten cut if Enigma didn't serve as an anchor, and Nisekoi is impossible to steal votes from because it's so darn good.

I'm surprised that ST&RS is still alive. Does this mean that it wasn't cut in the latest serialization meeting? Harisugawa was already cut, and usually series are cut before new ones start, right?

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Predicting a manga's demise two weeks before it has even started is just silly. Making the prediction based on something as shallow as title and genre is even sillier. And very shallow. Never forget that every manga Kanou has ever done has failed, after ten years he has yet to serialize a manga for 100 chapters or more. So rather than blame Kagami's lack of success on something so facile as genre, blame the authors long record of failure. And let's judge Pajamana Kanojo based on content, not genre and title, please and thanks.

There are not enough chapters for St&rs to finish this issue or next. When it ends is dependent on how many one shots they can pad the final volume with, and if they are inclined to add one shots at all. They can always serialize the final chapter in Jump Next this April, but if I am not mistaken St&rs needs another 6 chapters (including the one in this issue) before a full volume can be filled.

I would like to give it another chance, maybe it just wasn't for the audience that votes or buys tanks. Half a tank for One-Shots, when there's no clear [canneing] ending, I doubt that. At least it had a clear timeline when the characters had to be on Mars and as such would/could have a planed ending.

Is it certain to be axed?

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I'll take a romcom over an action series in Jump for variety purposes. Although we have had a recent string of romcom-types this year, they are still outnumbered by the action series that have been going on for several years now. I liked Kagami but Kanou's usual weakness as a writer for this genre continued to do him in. Magico has its charm at times and Nisekoi has been alright. I'm not extremely impressed with the previous series so far but I'm fine with seeing if this new one can hit the home run.

As for the volleyball manga, I'm always going to say bring them on because sports have been instant cannon fodder for almost the last half decade outside of Kuroko which got a lot of help earlier on. Granted I actually like reading Kuroko now. The fact that this is volleyball though and not horribly overdone soccer or baseball has me thinking it stands a slightly higher chance of living longer than two volumes.

ToC-wise, I'll always love the top 2 when its One Piece and Toriko holding down the fort. A bit sad about Sket and Medaka being low. I can't gauge Sket but Medaka's place isn't too surprising given what was covered along that stretch. Hoping it rises up a bit more in the coming weeks. Bakuman is kind of low too. Given that things are finally moving along I'd expect it to rise up soon.

Not certain but it has only been out of the bottom five once or twice. It is the logical next series out.

ST&RS has been in the bottom 5 since chapter 11, 9 of those chapters have been last place, most of the rest 2nd or 3rd from last, and neither of it's first two volumes got into the top 50 sales chart. It's basically a mild surprise that it hasn't already been axed.

As for when they might end it, assuming they don't want to fill any space in the final volume with one-shots, they need 34 chapters to fill the 4th and final volume. As of issue 12, it has 31 chapters. So if they choose, they can end it any time in the next few weeks without problem from a volume content standpoint.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Not this again... another action manga would be ugh³, but to have one romance within two dozen action/comedy series is nothing harmful. One position should be reserved for a non-a/c manga Imo.

I really want to read those one-shots, is there a list of the past ones or do I have to rummage through past ToCs?
Don't get me wrong, I love the recent rom-com's i.e. Nisekoi, Magico and Kagami (Magico is my fav) but can I get something else. I would like to see a horror/thriller manga that's up to the Jumps standards.

Yeah, I would like that kind of manga in Jump.

I also miss Neuro's style of black comedy. I wonder if Matsui is planning to return or not.

I'm personally hoping for another manga that's sort of similar to Enigma~ So I'd also root for a horror/thriller-type manga♥ (considering enigma polled poorly, tho, I won't hold my breath :\ )

You know, I do too. I'd like to see Matsui come back period, whether it's in Jump or another mag. The two one shots I translated from him since Neuro were both really good. He's a gem.

Wouldn't be another magazine more suited for those genre, a seinen one like Afternoon, Ultra Jump or Young Ace, I prefer the darker, more realistic approach.

Is Neuro even a horror/thriller?:3c Seems just to be mistery as Enigma.

Well, I'm not sure whether Neuro is horror or not (but Neuro is thriller).

He always claimed that Neuro was just an "entertainment manga", not a serious Conan style mystery manga. He certainly loved closed room crime mysteries though. While I would love to see Matsui in a really good magazine with top notch editors - such as Afternoon or Comic Beam - it would be delightful to have him back in Jump. Having a nouvelle and alternative manga influenced artist back in Jump would be delightful.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last 3 rankings for Medaka Box covered chapters 124-126? It's hilarious the damage control a certain part of the fandom is doing when I pointed out it was the worst rankings for a long time....
