Stealth Symphony was just as amazing as I imagined it was going to turn out, felt like its on the more wordy side of manga in jump. Gorgeous art, stunning story telling, and great character designs. Best final pagel to a chp 1 in awhile.
It looks pretty good and seems to have a lot of character to it. Hope it isn't a knockout blow to Soul Catcher(s)....

I enjoyed the first chapter of Stealth Symphony a lot as well. First chapter did everything I felt it needed to and the ending implies it could go in a bit of an atypical direction for a JUMP series. The art is also pretty fantastic. Curious to see where it's headed.

This discussion makes me think WSJ should have some "exceptions" in the way series are serialized like pretty much all other weekly magazines, biweekly, monthly magazines allow.
After his hospitalization last spring, Oda has been working on a lighter schedule, with One Piece taking a break every four chapters on average.

Oda Eiichiro Chapter 711 ToC Comment said:
With plenty of understanding and kindness from the editorial staff I'm working on my manuscripts at a reasonable pace while heading towards a full recovery.
And if you you think about it, Togashi has an exceptional schedule as well. One that doesn't involve working.

I think WSJ will give a special treatment to only really, really, really popular authors.
It's almost as popular as Naruto in terms of sales ("was" since all chapters have been compiled). If not the series wouldn't be there anymore.

Hadn't actually paid attention to that...

I don't know the reason, but I think it is interesting that Jump did the same thing with Beshari Gurashi a year after Steel Ball Run moved. Beshari started in late 2005, the first 28 chapters were serialized in Weekly Jump, before moving to Young Jump. Steel Ball Run was serialized for 23 chapters in Weekly Jump. Two new series (Steel Ball Run did not officially become JoJo's part four until after the move, even though the character names were obviously related) by popular, veteran mangaka, debuting about a year apart, both serialized for almost the same amount time, before moving to seinen magazines does not seem like a coincidence to me.
Though Beshari Gurashi was absent like an abnormal amount for a new series before it got transferred (at least that's how I'm remembering it) so I always figured they just wanted it in a magazine that allowed frequent breaks. But it was kind of a sad time for the old guard from the 80s :XD the remaining two were sort of demoted in a way

Did they make it sound like they will increase the price?

I think that's a natural phenomena. The old generation go to more mature magazines and the new generation start to build themselves in shounen magazines.

Do you expect the authors like Motomiya Hiroshi and Yudetamago return to Shounen Jump?

Can't say for sure. I'm hoping they're still exploring options for another separate magazine though.

I don't expect them to but I'd shit my pants in excitement if they did ;)

If they did, then they are going to be massively destroyed by the current series. :p

May get Souma digitally and physically, just to see their digital quality at least. Have the print preordered so I dont miss on nabbing it for low cost. Kindle HD is great for manga.

I cant think of any questions I would ask him.

I would love having a Shonen Jump+ subscription, the option to pay more for more series.

This.
I might actually consider ignoring their rape of One Piece if there were more series that I actually read.
Could be cool to have a combination of series from WSJ, WYJ, Jump SQ, Jump Kai, and Ultra Jump to compete with Crunchyroll.

Maybe not right away, but this could be a good lineup.
One Piece
Naruto
Bleach
Haikyuu!
Hunter×Hunter
Kuroko no Basket
Nisekoi
Shokugeki no Soma
Stealth Symphony
Toriko
World Trigger
Kingdom
All You Need Is Kill
One-Punch Man
Gunjou Senki
Kakuriyo Monogatari
Tokyo Ghoul
Shaman King Flowers
Ao no Exorcist
Claymore
Owari no Seraph
Sosei no Onmyoji
Tail Star
Jumbor
JoJoLion

That's 25 series,
11 Series from WSJ
6 Series from WYJ
1 Series from Jump Kai
4 Series from Jump SQ
3 Series from Ultra Jump
That makes only 3 more series than the Japanese WSJ has and 8 of those would be monthlies. It would be a good way to get more worldwide recognition to some of Shuesia's other magazines as well.
Keep in mind that Crunchyroll has 27 manga series.

Lol, AYNIK is only an adaptation from the novel of the same name and seeing where we are in the story the series has less than 10 chapters left. I'd say around 5 depending on how the rest is done.
For Jojolion that would mean considering readers have already read the previous part I think. Seeing it's basically considered as Part 8 of the "Jojo's Bizarre Adventures series".
Gunjou Senki is basically a shcool transported to the Warring States Era in Japan and has quite a number of Japanese historical figures likes names (haven't read pas chapter 7 yet though, but I really like the series).
Kakuriyo Monogatari, same as above but pretty much all the characters in there are based on Japanese historical figuress with important characters appearing as ghosts / vengeful spirits and one reference per chapter mentioned on average.
Tokyo Ghoul, the series already has 120+ chapters or something so that'd mean catching up to all previous chapters.
And, lastly Tail Star which isn't a popular series at all. It's basically always at the bottom of the ToC in UJ

So I think a line up like that would be about 80% impossible.

Oh for fuck's sake, stop calling it rape. It's a comic book and you're moaning about it by demeaning one of the most harrowing crimes that can be committed to a person. It's a shitty thing to do and you keep doing it. Like, sure, I get it, you don't care for minor changes in a name, and it ruins the reading experience for you, sure. Just cut that out. For real man, I got no truck with you and actually find you interesting to talk to on here but god damn it.

Anyway, that little bit out of the way let's look at these choices. First of all, no Grand Jump? For shame! I think a ore mature supplement could benefit from something like Dr. DMAT, Smoking Gun or Bartender a Tokyo (hard sells, but with Bartender you can just look at the critical reception of Drops of God in the west and see a small benefit to it.

Other than that I'm mostly with vinceled, save for the JoJoLion is a soft enough continuation of the JoJo franchise that you can (mostly) get by without SBR, so it could work. Shaman King Flowers at least seems the strongest bet for one of the more mature titles to make it in, being relatively fresh and part of a series that was once profitable for them.

Oh and I'd throw out that Claymore is too close to the end to be worth it.

Still, let's run with the idea of wider recognition of Shueisha's other male-oriented anthologies. I mean there has to be one with potential from each thing, yeah? So like, if you added one thing from each anthology to their current output, I'd put money down on these (not that I think they'd do this):

Jump SQ: Sousei no Onmyoji or Taishou Roman, for current success or name credibility respectively
Weekly Shonen Jump: High Kyuu!! seems the only current bet, though I'm intrigued by how Sasaki has brought up Isobe Isobee before, so maybe that'd be a good outreach choice
V Jump: Zexal seems to be wrappin up, so I can see them replacing it with whatever new adaptation we get for the new show, or perhaps Gaist Crusher First if Capcom take the plunge on that franchise in the west
Saikyo Jump: Gaist Crusher First again, or perhaps something more recognisable like Rock Lee, Dragonball SD, or Fluffy! Don Patch.
Ultra Jump: Jumbor and JoJoLion seem the only sane choices from here
Young Jump: I can't see anything that isn't overlong making it in from here other than Terra Formars, but a part of me wants Boku Girl, unlikely as that seems.
Weekly Playboy: Kinnikuman. Because Kinnikuman.
Jump Kai: Shaman King Flowers is the only one that makes sense to me
Grand Jump: See earlier, but if I were to bet on one, Smoking Gun is probably the easiest sell. which really drives home how hard it is to imagine GJ series coming out over here but still this is all ridiculously hypothetical.

Man, this is hard.

Way too many series proposed, why would viz need as many as crunchyroll, i think shueisha already has as many series here as the largest publisher providing manga on crunchyroll, kodansha, has there.

They would at least add series they already publish, imo, so tegami bachi, ultimo, terraformars would need to be on these lists.

Because part of competitive business is learning from well-received models, especially when the field is still in the early stages of life.

And I forgot about Ultimo. Which doesn't bode well for it, but I guess if there were demand for it they'd have gone for it by now, unless the publishing schedule gets in the way

Well I dont really think Shueisha are really in competition with Futubasha series on CR. I would think having quality content is more important than having just more series to read, I dont really think many people really rushed out to buy a subscription to read manga coming from Manga Action, Comic High, Comic Sumomo on CR manga.

Theres >10 kodansha series there and esj offers >10 series so its kind of even.

Proposing a near doubling of the lineup is rather extreme.

I don't think it would be wise to split their model in a normal and premium content. The big shots would be a reason to upgrade but smaller known series like WT would just have a harder time. Maybe something like choosing 10 series out of their bigger portfolio with more expensive additions could be a good option. (15 series, 20...). I also don't see the point to raise the price. They need to translate them to publish them physically and the digital output can't be so expensive. They don't need to clean scans or something like that. Maybe their digital version isn't as well received as we think and can't pay for itself? That would be really disappointing.
