Discussion Lucy's Star Dress

Stardress has so much potential, it's more then just fanservice looking at all 9 goldkeys Lucy has, (10 if you count Aquarius) she has 9-10 different move sets to work with, If we add in the fact that hopefully she could get the last 2 golden keys plus maybe finding a way to summon the Spirit king without breaking her keys (maybe by having all 12 keys) Lucy could be God tier.

Now does she need to summon the spirit first before transforming or can she switch forms at will I wonder.

It seems like she has to summon a spirit before getting the stardress however I doubt that is much of an issue considering 1 year ago lucy was able to summon 3 spirits at once. If she summons multiple spirits she should be able to switch clothes.

agreed, being able to summon muti spirits at once should nullify that weakness.

It's pretty self explanatory what kind of abilities Lucy's going to get from her Spirits but what do you guys think Capricorn ability is?

He seems like martial artist if you count anime fillers.

As far as I can tell capricorn is mostly about physical combat. Even when he went up against hades it was simply to punch him. Its probable lucy would get some sort of weapon from him though. She got a whip from summoning taurus even though taurus uses an ax.

What's funny is that was the only time Lucy's summon him in battle was vs Hades, every other appearance was him just giving Lucy advice on training. Capricorn could have some hidden abilities. But the hand to hand combat expert makes sense.
Capricorn form will must likely be powered up "Lucy kicks" with maybe one or two "punches thrown in.

I hope it's not always a whip, Lucy should at the very least get Sagittarius's bow and arrow.

She doesn't need the spirit to be summoned to use the Stardress. When Virgo disappeared her Stardress was still intact

Yeah, I would agree she doesn't necessarily need the spirit to be summoned, just that she is used to doing it that way. When the celestial King granted her the ability to use star dress with aquarius form, aquarius had already been dispelled (and her key was even broken).

Does anyone agree that we'll see an return of Unison Raid? Now that Lucy's copying her Spirit's magic they could pull off some pretty large attacks with Unison Raid.

Unison raid is usually the result of the combination of the magic of two mages. She has pulled of the technique with jubia before... Are you suggesting she will be able to do it alone? Well, I guess you mean a combination of her spirit and her although given how her magic works I get the impression it would still count as alone. I would think it is viable if the spirit in question is running of his own power. Although we have seen how spirits run on their own power and so far its not actually a lot of power... It worked in the first part of the series but I don't see the power loki displayed on his own being all that much nowadays. I guess the big question is whether lucy can use unison raid on her own. On the other hand it does seem like she can combine her power with spirits for greater power, like she did when she attempted uranometria with gemini.

Well FairyTail has a lot of fanservice on it's own but star dress gives Lucy a number of options in battle. When she used aquarius form in tartaros arc against Jackal, it didn't bring fanservice to mind but rather showed how competent Lucy can be in battle.

There are many ways to show she is a competent fighter other than choosing a dress that shows her curves lol.

The Star Dress is supposed to show how Lucy can adapt and grow as a mage in fights.
If you're just concentrating on it as fan service then you're ignoring the actual point of the star dress: to enhance the abilities of the user.
It seems the look of which form of the star dress goes off the traits of the spirit its from, i.e a long elegant dress to boot with the classy leader of the 12 Zodiac Spirits, Leo, the maid outfit for the maid spirit Virgo and so on. You really shouldn't expect anything to differ too much from the spirits looks-wise, and if the clothing is ever skimpy, it just comes down to the traits and attitudes of the spirits. But really the Star Dress is there to help Lucy grow as a mage and to show how she has grown in general over the one year time-skip.

That doesn't really matter. Erza has many similar requips. I didn't say it doesn't involve fan service, I said it's a lot more than that.

I didn't say Erza didn't have similar requips. Every female characters in Fairy tail are force to do fanservice. Dressing some robs that don't give you flexibility and don't protect your body and don't even cover body during a fierce battle doesn't make a sense.

That's like asking why Gray with his abs, and raging biceps is always strips, or Natsu who always seems to get his shirt blown off in a fight. No one ever talks about how the men are sexified in the manga. go cry about fanservice somewhere else This is just how Fairytail is.

Even Erza's new standard armour that she wears is more revealing, with it showing some bust. You're going to get some fanservice no matter what from my experience in reading manga, but sometimes there can be too much. I just hope Lucy's Star Dress will escape the potential for fanservice and will actually be able to have us concentrate on what she can do now.

Well we got Sagittarius dress in this week's chapter, and it seems pretty fine. Comes with a bow and arrows as well, and I think she has either auto aim or improved her archery skills, the target were hit dead on. Seems pretty good as a long range type, though we don't know just how strong until she uses it against an actual opponent instead of mooks.

To me its a tad interesting that the star dresses seem to be so effective. Its almost like they are even more effective than calling the spirits themselves. Then again that might be because quite a few of them are involved in a decent bit of comedic relieve.

You make a good point Sagittarius's stardress just looks stronger then Sagittarius himself. Lucy shot multiple homing light arrows while we only really seen Sagittarius shoot normal looking arrows with get accuracy.

Taurus's Stardress also just seem stronger then Taurus himself the way Lucy was tearing the earth apart like wet paper.

So we got 5-7 more stardress to see, hopefully Yukino just forces Lucy to take her keys or she just dies so we can get a Pisces and Libra dress.

I'm hype to see Capricorn's stardress just because I got no damn clue what his power is.

Another possibility could be the Spirits are stronger now thanks to Lucy's increases level of magic.
