Their favorite JoJo (Jotaro) is useless for 90% of the time.
American Prison setting.
Female MC in a shounen magazine (remember this was in 2000~2003).
Also, the ending.
Meh you can think of many reasons but we won't know. Can we even confirm that part 6 is the least popular? Is there sales figures at all to back it up? Unless someone checks Japanese forums frequently we won't know why. The TOC rankings were all over the place for part 5 and part 6 wasnt much better either.

So like part 5 sold 10M during it's run then what about part 6? Part 4? Part 3? Part 2? Part 1? If there's a gradual decline with each part then it would be pretty hard to pinpoint why it wasn't popular.

SBR/Jojolion are the sales figures that are easiest to find. SBR sold pretty low despite it being the best part and my fav. part. It sold like 7M with 24 volumes.

I think there was dip in quality during the Provisional Licence Exam arc. It just felt 'off', not bad or anything. Everything after has been the same quality as always imo. Of course, nowhere near as exciting as AFO, but I don't think that's fair. The manga can't always be in high gear, and I think the build up in this current arc has been fantastic.

Reminds me of how every loved Water 7, then trashed Thriller Bark, but then Sabaody came right after Thriller Bark. Not sure what Japanese audiences think of Thriller Bark though

The quality has dipped since the AFO arc but it's not unreadable. The dip in sales make sense. Unfortunately the series won't be as big as I hoped it would, but as long as it's not getting canceled and i can read it every week I'm cool with that

I will admit that after the AFO arc, it has been pretty low. Not as interesting as it once was and there seemed to be something missing in the story (although I did enjoy the confrontation between
Deku and Bakugou
). Then again. AFO arc was of a really high level to keep repeating.
However, the current arc seems to be building on a lot of things that we've seen from AFO arc and since. I do get the feeling that the current arc will be pretty intense as it goes on. It seems to be building up to be one of the longer arcs.

Agreed. I feel like once the action picks up and the fights start happening it will be standout arc. It seems to Horikoshi's writing style, like we saw in the Summer Arc and The Raid Arc. Slow build up to Action.

One of MHA greatest issues so far is the lack of real consequences. Horikoshi tries to shake things up, but without to change the status quo. At the beginning of the Stain Arc Deku hinted something bad might happen to Iida-
In the end, he injured his arm, which really hasnt changed his style to fight. There were also hints that All Might might die, but then he just died as a symbol, but was still alive as a person(also, everyone expected to see Society on his head, after the end of All Might. But not that much changed since then). Yes, little things happen, but nothing really extreme. Deku using too much strength in his battle could destroy his arms for good? Switches to legs.
The issue of the Provisional Licence Exam arc was, that it actually didnt change anything. Yes, Deku and the others can be heros outside of the school now, but they did this already before. And it just didnt feel much of change, because even then they did it before, there wasnt any real consequences before. It was an excuse for Horikoshi not to explain the lack of punishment for Deku and the others(yeah, I know, there were a punishment, sort of. But nothing really bad). And even Todoroki and Bakugou who failed the exam, just got a slap on the wrist and were given another chance for later.
in the end, the arc didnt really changed anything & at the same time, introduced as a lot of new faces & names to remember. After this, the pay off wasnt really satisfying.

Don't misunderstand. I really enjoy MHA, like, a lot. I like this arc, though I would prefer to see more of Shigaraki's & Overhaul's alliance, than of Sir Nighteye.
But I can feel, how Horikoshi is quite careful, not to change things too much, and instead, making little steps after another.
For example, I think, the quirk-destroying drug will be no more after this arc, Overhaul will be beaten & the only real winner will be Shigaraki somehow, because he'll be Deku's last big bad in the manga. Otherwise, no real changes or consequences.

Yeah what y'all saying is accurate, the PLE arc was the lowest in terms of quality, just because we have had something similar to it in a previous arc. "Drop in quality" always has a negative connotation attached to it though, the Hideout Raid was the best arc in MHA, which surpassed the School Trip arc which came right before it. This arc pace has gone slow but steady but it's just all build up, setting the stage for that bomb later on. No matter how you look at it, it's hard for current MHA to surpass those two arcs since it's just starting out.

Mind you, I still really liked the PLE arc regardless. Wasn't the best arc but I feel like it's more cause the other arcs were hella good and fresh, while this, with some repeated elements it used, was needed to progress certain elements in the story. To be really real, Ochako's crushing on Deku and unused screen time for new introduced characters were why it wasn't the best MHA had to offer, at least to me

Nah, I don't think that's the issue at all. Nothing has happened to warrant any real true consequences. The main issue is just that the arcs are short, and it's just average across the board, nothing feels amazing or unique. I love reading it every week though because you can feel the passion and it's really enjoyable.

Start of arcs always seem great but it's the middle towards the end is where it has to be great. I rather have a terrible beginning for an amazing ending. It feels like hella people got captured by the awe of Stain's philosophies and how it pivoted rogue villains like Himiko and Dabi to join under Shigaraki. Stain arc to me was average because Iida is an average character with a good family backstory in regards to his older brother (Todoroki's is way better and detailed) and even though Stain himself was dope, the arc to me was decent. The comparison of Enel to Skypeia that people brought up, how most loved Enel but the arc he was in was dry in of itself is the same how I feel about the Stain arc. With the dynamic of the shift from School Trip to Hideout Raid you honestly can't make a better transition between arcs, no momentum is lost at all. When you go from all that actions and epic shit to a > mildly action filled exam with new characters that don't get the most screentime/development yet > slice of life with the dorms, creating techniques, introduction of the Big 3 > internship/field training it's normal to see the drop in quality cause not much is happening since the flow of the story is changed. For what it's worth, what's currently going is interesting. I think the quality drop is normal due to what's progressed in the story so far

Looking through the posts in those threads, you'll see that almost all of them don't care about the quality of the arcs. I can understand the negative reception during the provisional license exam but people are bashing it without even reading the series, or speed reading it, or taking situations in isolation. You should have seen the threads during the recent Eri situation. People simplify it down, taking out the details of unknown quirks, and Eri running back herself and bash deku for not taking her away anyway. Then they bring in Luffy and say he would have done so. This last chapter, even though everything was tied together well, people didn't understand how overhaul's quirk connected to the bullets being produced from Eri. Granted in the chapter it was said to be a possibility, they took that possibility and started bashing the series.

It usually comes down to sales figures, ratings and the like. Since its "not doing well", the series must be crap so let's bash it. That's the reasoning here. They go so far as to say Heroaca caused nichigo's end.

Kind of interesting because we were just discussing how different the JoJo fanbase when you compare Japanese fans with Western fans.

Here in the West, while not as well recieved as previous arcs, the Permit Arc isn't universally hated. For the most part ppl seem to just think it's "meh" or "okay". And I've seen nothing but praise for this current arc on message boards, YouTube and forums from western fans.

Sounds pretty similar to when people here talk about Black Clover.

I think the reason Heroaca is being so heavily targeted by trolls because its fandom is so prominent online, if they troll something unpopular no one would care

anyway, people that criticize stuff they don't read and just follow the pack are literally sheep

Sounds pretty similar to when people here talk about Black Clover.

I know there's not much to talk about since it's Golden Week, but if it's going to get this in depth then I think it'd probably be best to talk about it in the MHA thread.

Technically there's still an issue to talk about, it's just an english one and is only catch-up instead of new chapters.

I wonder what viz will do for the cover page for their issue anyway, last week they reused a Dr Stone colour page so I'm guessing we'll see a reused Robo and WNL one.

Huh. That's interesting to know. As much as people here like to rag on BC, myself included, at least people can give their reasoning on why they do and stop when appropriate. Also anyone mind explaining what "nichigo" is?

Also regarding the Luffy comparison. I never quite understood why he is considered an ideal hero in Japan. It's a similar problem I had with Goku's characterization especially in Z and beyond.

Nichigo is the timeslot that season 1 of MHA was in, which is now dead.

Even Luffy would agree that being a hero is bullshit
