Hmm, I'm not a fan of the new AC's combat system...
I don't know it just looks weird. :XD
I'm sure that I'll get used to it while playing and probably won't notice it anymore. :D
I do like that slowed time animation reminiscent of BOTW though. LOL
Other than that, the game looks simply beautiful and I'm glad that they introduced more RPG elements.
That Eagle Vision though!

No Dishonored? You were curious about Prey but never played the Dishonored series? :notlikethis
Forgot to mention that yeah. I'm really looking forward to it actually.

I also thought the combat to the new AC game looked weird but then again, it is refreshing to see a change. It has been, what, a dozen games with little to no change or improvement? A change could really help the franchise flourish again.

Monster Hunter World, finally. Now i don't need to buy a Switch for the next Monster Hunter.
Knack 2 for $40 sounds and looks good. All I want are more Giant Knack areas and a better way to collect the different Knacks.
Ni No Kuni looks beautiful. I hope they improved the NPC partners. Wasting all their MP with their strongest magics on every low level enemy was a big problem in the first one.
Not sure what to think of Spider-Man. The QTEs look anoying and the swinging mechanic looked bad for me. He was swinging into every building and couldn't change directions in a smooth way.

Monster Hunter World is coming to PC as well! So it is coming out for PS4, Switch and PC. I'm not sure it is getting a Xbox One release, though. Either way, have one of those platforms and you're good to go! :D

Here's some more info on the game from Capcom:

Monster Hunter: World introduces a living, breathing ecosystem in which players take on the role of a hunter that seeks and slays ferocious beasts in heart-pounding battles that unfold across the vast ever-changing terrain.

Retaining the series’ skill based progression and robust crafting system, players gear up to venture on quests to seek and slay monsters, progressively improving their skills to become the ultimate hunter. Loot collected from fallen foes can be used to create new equipment and armor upgrades styled after the monsters they’ve slain, allowing hunters to survive the elements and defeat the tougher opponents that await them.

Monster Hunter: World delivers a seamless gameplay experience allowing players to move freely across map areas that comprise the living ecosystems and dynamically transition from day to night. The landscape and its diverse inhabitants play a critical role in each quest as players strategically use the surrounding environment including terrain, vegetation and wildlife to their advantage in battle or become hindered by the hazards they present. Hunters must use their cunning and abilities to track and maneuver their targets throughout the intense, evolving battles.

With flexible online multiplayer options and an accessible quest structure, players can tackle challenges alone or join up to three other hunters online for cooperative play. For the first time in the Monster Hunter™ series, players from Japan and the west can play together online, providing an expanded base of cooperative hunting companions. With the new online drop-in functionality, solo players can hail for assistance from the worldwide group during quests when their opponents are too daunting to take on single-handedly.
It allows players from the west to play with Japanese players? No loading screens between areas? Sign me up!

It's not coming out for Switch actually, it's PS4/XBox/PC. Switch is getting another Monster Hunter title.

And yeah, seems to be a bit of an MMO, or at least a shared-world experience.

This E3 didn't quite pull me in the way some years have. I did follow it but none of the announcements really wow'd me, I guess. Here are my thoughts on the high points.

EA
showed pretty much what we expected except for that co-op convict game. Anthem was the big reveal but as expected it looks like Warframe/Destiny. But to be honest I'm not really itching for that. What I want from Bioware is story and characters and I didn't come away knowing whether or not to expect much of that.

Microsoft was unable to make any case for why I'd want a Xbox OneX. First of all $499 is just too expensive. Then there are the launch games. Forza looks good but I don't play racing games. Crackdown surprisingly didn't look that good visually. So it's like the PS4 Pro but more power, more expensive, and without much in the way of exclusives to show off what it can do. They may have showed a bunch of upcoming games but there was no "Fable" type game that could sell a console to me.

Bethesda was stylish but light on content. It was Wolfenstein and Evil Within 2. Wolfenstien looks great. Can't wait to play it. Evil Within looks weird. Maybe that's good. Maybe that's bad. Yet to be determined on that one.

Ubisoft had some interesting stuff. Assassin's Creed and Far Cry looked pretty similar to how they always do to me. But there are some differences I just wonder if they will be different enough to get me back into those franchises? I don't know. Mario Rabids looking like X-Com is a pleasant surprise. Not sure about Beyond Good and Evil 2 as I never played the original. Skull & Bones was probably the most appealing thing to me but only if there are Sid Meyer's Pirates elements to it. If it's just PVP like For Honor then I doubt I'll play it.

Sony had the best showing for my tastes. God of War looked good. It looked fun. Days Gone looked really good. If can hit that Last of Us/State of Decay sweet spot it could be amazing. Destiny 2 just looked like Destiny to me (Warframe is better:hip). Liked what I saw from Detroit and Spiderman. Spiderman looked a little QTE heavy but if that's just what the missions are like and you can still explore the open world that's going to be pretty awesome. Then there is Monster Hunter. Which I've never played but I have played Toukiden 2 and Freedom Wars, so I'm eager to check out the forefather of the genre.

Nintendo had a great showing for Nintendo fans. Which I'm actually not. Metroid game announcements. Mario Odyssey. Yoshi. Pokemon Switch announcement. It seems like if you bought a Switch and are into Nintendo stuff they had a great showing. The only bit that really appealed to me was Xenosaga 2.

-------------------------------------------------------

What I really wanted was a Red Dead Redemption Trailer or a surprise western RPG announcement. Like a Dragon Age or Todd Howard's new game. But I guess all that will be next year.

So I guess I'd rank them...

  1. Sony
  2. Nintendo
  3. Bethesda
  4. Ubisoft
  5. Microsoft
  6. EA

The only thing that caught my interest at all was Ori and the Will of the Wisps, because I adored the first game.

Except that it being Windows 10 only (aside from XBox One), means I'll be skipping it, because I absolutely despise stupid lock-ins like that.

Just found out they're making a remake of Shadow of Colossus. That game was my shit. Highlights for me from E3 were Metroid, KH3, AC stuff. I need to buy my own Switch, been playing my friend's any time I hang out with him. Skyrim for on a Nintendo platform is hype, one of the best kind of those games.

Too late to post my impressions on E3 but I thought all three main events (Nintendo, Sony, MS) disappointed, with Nintendo being the least disappointing and Sony the most (due to high expectations, as opposed to no expectations for MS in terms of exclusive content)

I can't wait to triple-dip Shadow of the Colossus! The original was a masterpiece, and my 2nd favorite game of all time.

Both Metroid games, especially Prime 4, were great surprises. The downside is that one is being released on the wrong platform by meh developers, and the other won't be developed by Retro Studios.

From a market standpoint, Monster Hunter World was by far the most significant announcement. A huge win for Sony in particular since Xbox and PC are irrelevant in Japan, which is the market where MH matters.

Spider-Man looked incredible but the QTEs worry me, and I'm not sure if this will be properly open-world/large-world.

Ori 2 will be great.. I need to get a gaming PC.

E3 impressions
I'm surprised that you didn't write anything about Hidden Agenda, the upcoming point-and-click (I suppose?) game made by Supermassive Games, the developer of Until Dawn. I remember that you loved Until Dawn because it hit you right in the spot. I didn't consider Until Dawn as my top 5 games of 2015 (it was a really great year for gaming, it's almost as good as this year), but I relished the experience of playing it.

Hope you're looking forward to it as much as I do :D (well we need to play something before RDR 2, don't we?)

I thought the same thing about Spider-Man. It looks really, really good but the quick timed events thing will get boring/old fast if its overused. Which it looks like it will be.

I'm interested in it but the whole cell phone integration and social aspect makes me question how good it will really be. As does the shift to what seems like more of a cop thriller.

Until Dawn I thought was amazing. But I thought that because it perfectly captured the joy of watching a creature feature with the added bonus of more interactivity. It really caught me with that in a way that things that took themselves more seriously, like Heavy Rain, were never was able to.

This seems to be going for a of a co-op thriller and I worry that the focus on that stuff will diminish the campy immersive fun that made Until Dawn so good. I'm just not sure their formula will work as well outside of the B movie genres. That's really what I would have liked to see from them.

Like what sold me Until Dawn was this great IGN lets play. Which kind of reflect what's so fun about the game. It's dumb in a fun way. The more serious and social they make it. The less fun I suspect it will be.

While I also share some of your skepticisms I'm still excited for Hidden Agenda because I am such a sucker for Point-and-Click / QTE-heavy games. I really loved the campiness of Until Dawn, but what I found to be the most outstanding quality of Until Dawn is how your decisions actually matter no matter how small/superficial they are. I saw plenty of different Let's Players played the game, and it truly delighted me when I found out that even if, for instance, you and I get same endings, the differences in our decision-making make the mysteries unravel somewhat differently. That kind of players' freedom is what Bioware and Telltale and Quantic Dream have been striving to create, but somehow always ended up in a less-than-satisfactory note, IMO.

I am also not a fan of the social network app that they are planning to integrate with the game, but what I can infer from the interviews with the developers is it seems the app is hardly mandatory. If what they mean by 'social network' is just looking up online what kind of decisions that other players make, I don't really have a problem with that. If you have played Persona 5, I think you would be familiar with the 'social-networking' aspect of that game, in regards to finding out the answers to random questions which are being thrown at you inside the class. As long as it's not obligatory for you to co-op with other player (like the EA's A Way Out) in order to complete the game, I'm OK with that.

I think cop thriller genre also has a lot of potential to be campy and fun. One of my most favourite games is L.A. Noire, an homage to classic noir and detective films. It's pretty obvious that L.A. Noire is greatly influenced by a movie like Chinatown (1974), and arguably it's campy as heck too. I agree that the experience would probably be less immersive since it's not a horror genre, though.

and I opine the problem with Heavy Rain and other Quantic Games runs deeper than a mere storytelling problem, though I am not denying the fact that for many people David Cage is not as great of a writer as he think he is.

Don't get me wrong I like that they are still working on those type of games in any capacity but it also wasn't what I was really hoping for.

I liked LA Noire ok too but to me this looks more like an a cop drama than it did a genre story. Like if they did a Noir PI story I'd be totally into that. Or Sci-Fi. Or more campy horror. But to me this looks like an attempt at something more serious and I don't know about that.

Ok, I have been playing dark souls... It's the first time I have played a game where I legitimately feel I suck at it. I don't even know how many souls I have lost due to dying...

I didn't ever play Dark Souls ( Maybe I will give it a go some day ) but I've played Demon's Souls and really enjoyed it and despite what I have heard the game itself isn't so hard I was only dying by falling :hi

But Maybe it's mainly because Faith build I went makes the game easy.

Wait, how far are you into it? You aren't like 50 hours into it because you're stuck or something, right?

I got stuck about 10 hours with smough and ornstein. Of course, I didn't only do that for 10 hours. I grinded and collected a bunch of weapons and whatnot when I got tired of trying... Now I am doing the lord souls.
