Also, looking at the story arcs on the wiki, I realize just how fast the pacing is in MHA (whether that's good or bad is debatable). The arcs are only about 10-20 chapters each.
That's good. One Piece's Dressrosa arc was almost 100 chapters long and went on for over 2 1/2 years. And this whole arc was just 1 day in the world of One Piece.

Yeah the anime handled it poorly plus it was animated in like 120 episodes...Bones isn't like Toei thankfully

Are there a lot of examples of a WSJ series jumping in popularity because of it's later seasons?
Yu-Gi-Oh! got a giant boost.
Also HxH got a big boost like others said.

MHA's anime is continuing to provide a great boost to the backlog sales. They've been strong throughout the entire season. I'm content enough with that. Besides, with digital sales on the constant rise, we really don't know how much a series actually sells.

This sounds really optimistic. People said the same thing about season 2 with the tournament arc and the Stain arc, but there hasn't been a big boost in volume sales like people were hoping (besides backlogs). I want MHA to be a million per volume seller as well, but I doubt that will happen. Season 3, if it even happens, has to really draw people in for it to cause a large boost in sales. I'd assume that season 2 will end with the final exam arc, then if season 3 does come, they can fit the school trip and hideout raid arcs (28 total chapters) into a 12/13 episode season.

The backlog increasing is actually a pretty good reason to be optimistic IMO. After all, that shows how much people are trying to catch up to the series up to the anime's current point. Internet chatter in Japan has been mostly positive about the anime as far as I know. And they still don't know what's to come yet, and boy are these people gonna be in for one hell of a ride.

It depends on perspective really. If you expected it to be a million seller by now then you're going to be disappointed regardless but if you expected for it to grow even more pass its personal best then you were satisfied. The very fact that it got a second boost is something to take notice since that rarely happens and we have yet to see the effects take place yet (volume 14 was the best selling volume of the series thus far selling faster than all the previous volumes and as of now is still selling) so its not like it didn't have any effect just once again didn't meet up to the absurd expectations of some people.

It sold 550K before leaving the top 50. That's also not counting the OVA bundled edition.

A three year old manga is suddenly reaching an expiration date? What's the excuse going to be this time?
It is already in its second season of anime and the boost for the second season was already without precedence so I don't think it will happen again, the sales will stabilize from now on and there will not be any big increases to make it as popular as Naruto once was, so it will ultimately never reach Naruto, that's what I meant with reaching its expiration date, it is already passing its prime.

If Yuno becomes edgy and joins the Eye of the Midnight Sun to kill everyone and it's revealed that Asta's dad stopped the great demon i'll drop BC instantly.
Not gonna lie, as generic and annoying as this would be, I still think it'd be more exciting than any direction Tabata would take on his own. That's how little faith he has given me. Or rather, I've already resigned myself to the fact it's going to happen.

3rd season is a given, ToHo wants to make it a 10 year anime. Thing with MHA is it doesn't seem like it can be more than 30-40 volumes. MHA's world doesn't do it any favors to get milked either being it's a school setting which does more school stuff compared to Bleach. If what most of us consider the School Trip/Hideout Raid arcs to be the best source material to come out of MHA so far and if the boost isn't to the heights the fans would love to see then it probably never will get there.

Regarding a movie OP had its first movie in 2000, so 3 years after it serialized. Naruto and Bleach had its first in 2004 and 2006 respectively, 5 years after they started. Hopefully we'll get something in the next year or so announced cause I would say its due time, it's popular enough.

Yes, the red part.

To be easier to translate and see: 尾田くんの場合は、もう本当に小さい時から「海賊」か「魔法使い」か「忍者」で漫画を描くって決めていたので、思い入れがハンパなく強いんですよ。
Ok

Just found it funny. That line especially the Ninja could tell Oda had Wano in mind early.

I remember a while back Horikoshi said MHA will be around 400 chapters in length. This was when he said the story is 20% done and if that is case then it'll definitely be 40+ volumes.

Oda really did a good job at creating an universe where it is almost inexhaustible the possibilities, he can do practically everything without forcing too much and without being ridiculous, like, for example, Toriko. It is also the hands of a master who can seamlessly introduce new concepts to his story.

Really? How much time has passed in-story? Like 16 months right? Hori could make the next 2 years each to be 100 chapters then. Years as in school years

As a franchise I still believe Dragon ball is bigger than One Piece. Bandai are expecting Dragon ball to generate 75.7 billion yen for them this fiscal year whilst they are expecting One Piece to generate 26 billion yen. Also last fiscal year Dragon ball generated 61.1 billion yen for Bandai whilst One Piece made 30.4 billion yen. Dragon ball to Shueisha is comparable to a marvel IP like Spider-Man in the sense that they expect it to keep selling for as close to forever as possible. That's why Shueisha created the Dragon ball department last year that focuses solemnly on Dragon ball.

hasn't DB always been above OP regarding Bandai?

Anyways
I was told not to go off solely off Bandai. There r other things to measure them.

But I won't be surprised if DB is it has a head start by a decade and 3 years on OP

Really? Toriko also did an incredibly good job at creating a massive universe with endless possibilities without them seeming too far fetched. Obviously not to the level of OP, but there aren't many series that even do it as well as Toriko, and it was definitely one of its strengths. If anything, it's the increase in pace that came with the Another arc (probably Shimabu being told to wrap it up) that made the Toriko universe seem smaller than it actually was and brought about all the sudden insane scale shifts. We didn't even get to see the adventures of the characters that explored the other 50-75% of the Gourmet World. In regards to the potential Space arc though, I think it would have been much of the same regardless.

Toriko as well as World Trigger were two series I remember starting and thinking how insanely large their universes could be. Though it seems WT might not focus on the Neighbourhood much outside of the whole Aftokrator thing, despite sounding like it's made up of hundreds of planets.

He never said 400+ chapters. He said 20% and ppl did the math.
But I don't think when he says 20% he has an exact estimate on how many chapters the series has. He's likely just basing that 20% on where the story is at. The series could be well below 400 or well above 400 for all we know
