Yes, it would be nice if Keishuk turned out to be a real challenge. Not necessarily a typical villain, but a character that may lead to interesting and intensive situations. I think he has the potential to play such a role and not be completely evil. After all, there must be a reason/reasons why he follows Su-won?
Speaking about motivations...it would be quinte interesting, why Ju do...the Sky General that was appointed by King Il...Since Yu hon was still the Sky General when he died, King Il must be the one to have named his successor.

And this person betrayed King Il and followed Soo Won instead. Would be interesting to know which events led to Judo abandonning King Il and entrusting an 18 year old person with the whole kingdom.

When I remember correctly, Judo was already aware of Soo Won s capabilities as a leader...

I thought for sure we were gonna get a heated negotiations with kouren and soowon... But unfortunately we only get to see a 'tent'. Its as if the whole 20+ chapters was just about getting soowon and kouren to meet- just that.
Pathetic, isn't it?!! and you still have a more positive view than mine, thinking it's about soowon and kouren meeting, because what I see is that this arc was specially designed to show Yona's political skill that came literally out of nowhere, and we are supposed to accept it!!! once the author finished portraying Yona that way she lost interest in the arc, so to hell with everything else. I'm really sad and disappointed, I was really expecting something much better. When I said that in my previous post, SamuelDean noted that the Kai invasion might be the reason for cutting it so fast, it was a valid point so I waited, but no such thing was mentioned in this chapter I believe, and it doesn't seem like the Kai issue is going to be dealt with right away because it appears that we have some cheesy jealousy coming next. Mini_kinkin also said that although it was stretched it wasn't a total waste, because we got to know that soowon and Ill were aware of Yona's situation and that shield appeared, but compared to the number of chapters that were dedicated for this arc what we got was so little I can't be satisfied with.
Heck, we didn't even get to see the main trio talk at all, only Hak glaring at suwon.

Yes, it would be interesting as well to have it explained in more depth the reasons why these people follow Su-won. Coming to think about it, a chapter about the situation in Kouka from Keishuk’s and/or Judo’s point of view and their reason to support Su-won’s coup plans would be interesting.

Also, from the spoilers it seems that Su-won wants to go back to Hiryuu Castle to look into the issue with the Fire tribe's "beacon". This at least looks promising. Now it would be great if Yona stopped solving problems thanks to her power of luck.

This Xing arc was no good. I even liked Sei arc better. Sei arc has those forts in the middle of nowhere, but it is not ruining Yona’s characterization and the tension and emotions were actually there. Here tension fizzled out so quickly and early that I didn’t even have a chance to feel it.

Ch 149 was good, if only to see Gobi the fool. Then again he's so foolish that he brings down the story a bit, for one he's an unlikable character, and secondly his stupidity just makes it a bit too convenient. I wanted Kouren and Soo-Won's first encounter to have a bit more tension, but Gobi has dissolved that somewhat. Doesn't exactly hype me up for the conference now..

It was an important 'flashback' to King Il, to understand Soo-Won's thoughts on the Four Dragons. And now we have Kye-Soon honing in again, I won't be surprised if he plans to take the dragons, or something along those lines.

About that...I wouldn t say that there is no base for her achievements...but she surely was lucky. What disturbs me here is that King HIryuu was not shown to use similar means...There is no picture, where he just stares at people...and since Zeno is the narrator we don t know which "power" King Hiryuu had before the dragon warriors appeared. How did the "power of authority" influence the people. Are there similarities to Soo Won s charisma? Coming to think about that..maybe there is still much information about King Hiryuu that we are unaware...
So it means...Tae Jun may face severe problems.

Gobi ruined a lot of that tension for me. The fight with him lasted for a couple of chapters and I couldn t care less about it. Gobi s design made it obvious that he would fall down on his face sooner or later. He acted like a fool and benefitted the goals of his enemies more than actually being a hindrance(Well...you actually talked about that issue before).

Somehow my impression was that the mangaka wished to get over with the Xing arc. The problem was for me that she wasted too many chapters on the encounter between Gobi and Kouren. Who wished to see that? I wished for Kouren and Soo Won/Soo Won, Hak and Yona!

About Kouren...She hated Yu hon for 17 years wished to start a war with the "son of Yu hon", without informing herself properly what kind of person he is or if her troops may have even a chance against Kouka. Kouren could have pretended to agree, just to stab Soo Won in the back...
Why not wait until Kouka faces Kai and start a rebellion then?
It was not the best choice..starting a war with Kouka.

It was an important 'flashback' to King Il, to understand Soo-Won's thoughts on the Four Dragons. And now we have Kye-Soon honing in again, I won't be surprised if he plans to take the dragons, or something along those lines.
I somehow guess, that he would rather target Yona. She is the source of their problems. If Yona should die, then the only person with a right to the throne next to Soo Won vanishes in thin air.
Also Keishuk never witnessed the power of the dragon warriors and may underestimate them. Soo Won is a rather practical person and up until now...I had the same impression concerning Keishuk. But I might be wrong here.

Yea, Yona would be the better target now that you mention it. Another part of all this is the revelation of Hak and Yona's existence to Kouka's people. Joo-Doh was paneled next to Kye-Sook too this chapter iirc, not that it means anything, but those are probably the main 2 who would take action against Yona and Hak.

I see. I think I would not mind that if it turned out that Yona has some magical dragon power if it were made clear at the beginning of the manga. However, other than being a reincarnation of a legendary King, she was a normal human being who need to learn to have abilities. Now, it is too late in the game to change it and tell that, after all she has magical abilities. It is like changing the rules of the game in the middle of the game and it feels like cheating at this point.

Besides, If she turns out to have magical abilities now, her whole learning of archery and swordsmanship will turn into a pointless exercise.

So it means...Tae Jun may face severe problems.
It seems so. I hope that the cheesy jealousy will not take too much time and we will quickly move on to the more interesting stuff.

I thought about it too, but than I thought that he can be used in a more interesting way, especially since it is clear that he cannot kill the main heroine. Rather than just to make him fail at killing her for obvious reasons, though this can certainly still happen and this time I hope it will not be luck that will save Yona, he can be used to make some interesting revelations. I think Su-won will not want to tell Yona and Hak any brutal truth about Il’s sinister side and the state of the country prior to his coup, because of their past friendship and I don’t think he would want to inflict more pain on them. However, Keishuk should have no qualms about it. He even starts doing it in the second episode of the anime, but Su-won cuts him short.

Keishuk is close to Su-won, so I think it is likely that he knows in-depth Su-won’s reasons for killing Il. In the second chapter Keishuk says that Su-won achieved his long-cherished dream when he sees Il dead and Su-won with a bloody sword.

True, we dont know much about king hiryuu, how he came to power, etc. but we can assume that before the heavens opened up and his brothers came down to save him, he had no authority coz the people were ready to burn him at the stake/ behead him... it was only after that grand spectacle that things turned around. Thats why if i were to guess, his authority over the people had everything to do with him being a God made man.

Plus, people flock to power and kouka then was always feuding with its neighbors. It wouldnt be surprising that the people, after seeing the heavens siding with hiryuu and giving him demigod-like bodyguards would want to be under his protection and leadership.

***wait... do i see a hiryuu-jesus christ parallel? Hiryuu is condemned after blabbing hes a god and the people accused him of blasphemy thats why he was gonna get burned at the stake/killed publicly? It was only after the heavens opened did the people realize what he was saying was true all along?

Im not really sure about soowons charisma... bec i think yona is more charismatic than soowon. Soowon did show signs of charisma when they were still kids during the young leaves in the wind but now when thyre older... not so much.

Keishuk is close to Su-won, so I think it is likely that he knows in-depth Su-won’s reasons for killing Il. In the second chapter Keishuk says that Su-won achieved his long-cherished dream when he sees Il dead and Su-won with a bloody sword.
I tired of waiting for soowon to spill his secrets... its been 8 years. I like the idea of keishuk doing the babbling

Judging by the first impression, chapter 150 probably won't be my favourite chapter... But it's great that Kouren, Tao, and Soo-Won have finally come to an agreement (at least this is what it looks like). Kouka will now take care of Xing's military as well as their foreign affairs. I can see why Tao wants Yona to participate in the negotiations. Nevertheless, I'm still not a big fan of how they handled Yona's "political development". As shinobi stated before, it literally came out of nowhere. Well, at least we got an even more salty Keishuk than ever before lmao. :XD :teehee I wonder if he's trying to kidnap Yona in the next chapter... But I guess we'll be getting some cheesy jealousy from Yona's side and also the long awaited HakYona talk. Meh, guess I'll be just skipping the next chapter then. :-_-

So, after 23 chapters, the Xing arc is finally over. Who am I to judge, but I didn't really like it at all tbh. I hope the next arc will be better. I'm also expecting to get some insight on Soo-Won's character and all the mysteries that come with it. I wonder if Lili stayed at the Wind Tribe encampment or if she followed Soo-Won back into the castle. I'm not as confident as before when it comes to the Lili x Soo-Won ship, since she met Tae-Woo in the latest chapter. I know many fans ship Lili with Tae-Woo, but I can't warm up to this pairing (please don't judge me). But it could very well be that the author now wants to pair her up with Tae-Woo, since many fans like this ship.

Tae-Woo and Lily? Well, I am not seeing it. It is an ok couple if you are writing a fanfiction and you don’t have to worry about the main plot, but in canon it would be more difficult.

Tae-Woo and Lily share just one scene vs all these scenes that Lily has with Su-won since the Water tribe arc and this one scene didn’t even feel romantic or hinting at future romance, though I may change my mind after seeing the translation. And it seems that the manga may move on to the Fire tribe to touch on the consequences of the beacon incident, so I suppose that Tae-Woo will be left behind and there is that he is the general of the Wind Tribe, so Kuasanagi would have to find a reason to add him more often to the story which is about Yona and co. travelling to different places. This will make writing a romance between Lily and Tae-Woo cumbersome.

Kusanagi would have to either come up with an explanation why he is travelling around instead of taking care of his tribe or make Lily stay in the Wind tribe, but for what reason should she stay there? Not to mention that the story is not about Lily, so yeah… problematic.

But whatever, I don’t care about Tae-Woo and I don’t care if he ends up with Lily or someone else. I just don’t think that switching to Tae-Woo & Lily so late in the game is a good idea, especially since it will make writing more difficult for her and the previous chapters pretty much established that if Lily ends up with anyone, it will be with Su-won. Abandoning them now for a couple that she would have to develop from scratch doesn’t sound like the best idea for a manga that already has more than 20 volumes and will probably be over after one or two arcs.

By the way, while reading chapter 149 I have noticed this
http://bato.to/reader#c50a29a1a3771874_14
The guy from Xing is asking who are the people who point swords at Kouren and he asks if they are really citizens of the Xing kingdom. I think Aniela had this theory that Kai may be involved in this whole mess in Xing, so maybe it will turn out to be true.

I will at least read few more chapters as the above possibility of another country being involved and Su-won’s remark about the Fire tribe beacon make me kind of interested.

That s interesting. You are right. It could be, but the explanation does sound kind of weird...The people of Xing were present, when these guys shot arrows at Kouren...Any arrow could have hit his target = Kouren.

Now they are asking? Weird.
But would Kai Empire not wish for Kouka s war with Xing? Xing is weaker and Soo Won would try to take it or more the resources he is interested in at any cost...
Soo Won now getting everything without any loses may be the worst kind of scenario for them...It s a little complicated that it was the anti-war fraction...Since Gobi s original aim was to offer Xing kingdom to Kouka...

The fire tribe beacon....Maybe not only Tae Jun has to face a few consequences...Kyoga is responsible as the head of the tribe...but it is unlikely that Soo Won would let the fire tribe bleed too much...

About the people of Xing, I don’t know. They seem to change their opinion in the blink of an eye. I am not sure if finding some reason behind their actions is possible, so I am not even trying.

As for Kai, maybe they hoped that they will have a chance to assassin Su-won during the wedding or shortly after the wedding with Tao? Like the plan was ‘let’s get super close to him to have a good shot.’

However, it depends on whether Kai considers Su-won to be a problem. IMO, at this point they can.

I think that Tae Jun will admit to everything so that his brother will not be punished.

I see. That is possible. They look like assassins anyway...

I would at least be concerned, if a country next to me would amass a great deal of land and power...It may be also meaningful, that they didn t try to take back Kin Province.

I think that Tae Jun will admit to everything so that his brother will not be punished
Yeah I guess he will...but he will surely lose face. I wonder how Kyoga will perceive Yona...if he should ever notice that Yona is the reincarnation of King Hiryuu...
Right now...his feelings may be not the most positive, since Yona was the one to persuade Tae Jun. Tae Jun will be lucky, if Soo Won won t execute him for his actions..
I don t think that Tae Jun will die...I am just interested if Soo Won will spare him, or if Yona and co interfere.

Yeah. Everyone has their preferences. Actually there are more than two options at least in real life.Rude behaviour and frank attitude aren t always associated. There are a couple of people who are both rude and scheming. And also people who are nice and frank. Frankness doesn t have aynthing to do with being rude.
I am curious...how would you call it if a guy would say that you are becoming uglier?
Hello! Replying to this late but anyway.

If I know that person isn't serious I wouldn't care. Yona hardly cared if Hak thought she's ugly...at that point she only cared what Soo-Won though and she knew Hak isn't serious.

I think that you make sure, that your friends understand the "teasing" right, correct?
Because you don t wish to hurt them. If they get really angry, that would maybe concern you and you would apologize. You didn t harbour ill will after all.
That is the difference between real life and in manga, where we don t see the male lead apologize for his behaviour if the heroine should be upset about it. Well at least in that case. He would be troubled to complicate their relationship.
Lol, hardly any of my guy friends apologize for being mean/teasing. But yes I guess if I do care and get upset and tell them I am upset (because guys can just be so oblivious sometimes), they say sorry. Its' just how guys are. They diss/are mean to each other too. Just like how Hak is always teasing Kija and Jaeha. And it seems to me that Yona understood the teasing, she even tells him to stop teasing her many times later (probably when she realized her feelings - because before that she didn't care much) so maybe that's why he has stopped now.

I do understand that he doesn t wish to establish a relationship with her, since he doesn t seem to realize, that Yona s feelings changed. That is a pity actually. I hoped when she kissed him, that he would realize her feelings.

Though I like the Yona and Hak interactions later more, since Hak dropped this attitude of his.
I am sure during their talk after this arc, they will at least confirm that they both like each other.

Chapter 149 was good, it's basically setting us all up for even more Soo-Won, Yona drama since now the soldiers heard about the four dragons protecting Yona too. I want to see how all this gets resolved.

Ah yes, I had that theory ^.^ I put it out on the previous form though, so I'll repeat it here.

I suspected that Kai may be involved in the Xing-Kouka affairs, secretly pulling the strings to cause a war. First, what I noticed:
1. I thought it weird that Su-won was so set on war from the very beginning. It made sense that he would like to launch a preemptive strike, but only in case he was certain that Xing is going to attack Kouka. Which he stated that would happen, so I bought it at the beginning of the arc - but then Kouren agreed to consider peace talks pretty easily, which got me thinking.
2. Simultaneously Xing people seemed absolutely certain that Kouka is going to invade them, and too wanted to launch a preemptive strike... Which really just looked like a self-fueling circle with uncertain beginning.

So I thought that perhaps Kai is involved. They could have agents/spies stationed here and there, infiltrating Su-won's network, so he thought that there's no chance for peace with Xing. They would also go around Xing spreading fear that Kouka is going to invade soon, and possibly also scaring people even more with the tales of "the Kouka's beasts".

Why would Kai do it?
1. They could be afraid that the two countries would unite against Kai.
2. They could also - more likely - plan to invade Kouka while it was warring with Xing, taking it by surprise.
3. Basically when two quarrel, a third wins.

Also, from the writer's standpoint, it would be a neat way to introduce Kai into the story, simultaneously showing how powerful they are (if they could reach as far as Xing and Su-won's spy network).

However, the page that @Aylinn pointed out suggests that Kai - if it was Kai - was actually supporting Gobi, who claimed to want peace. So perhaps he was supposed to be Kai's puppet ruler after Kouren and Tao are both disposed of, or maybe they were planning to betray him eventually.

Though, to be honest, after this arc I'm hesitant to expect anything too clever. It could very well be there just because in the author's mind all Xing people are good and there's absolutely no chance that any of them would serve an evil man for money or any other reason, so she made them foreigners.

In fact Yona thought that Hak was rude in the past, since he "teased" her.
So it did seem that she didn t perceive it as a mere joke...

I made different experiences, that s why I think that the teasing part is not necessary.

Though it is nice sometimes.

I don’t think Su-won can spare him so easily, since it was not the first time Tea-Jun showed insubordination and was spared.

Yes, I am afraid as well that it may be the case. At least there seems to be a promising follow-up to this arc, but how it turns out will depend on the execution. I just hope that Kusanagi will stop presenting Yona as a character who is always right, always successfully achieves what she wants and never makes any mistakes or if she does, the consequences are never serious.

I don’t know if she thinks it, but it is very common for shoujo to throw obstacles at the main couple to slow down their getting together.

Come to think about it, the true hero of this story is Gobi. Not only did his inept attempt at coup make it possible to convince Kouren that she should negotiate with Su-won, but also his babbling about gods made it possible for Su-won to score points in Kouren’s eyes, which basically saved Yona from facing consequences her blunders. Inadvertently, he turned out to be Yona’s most useful ally in this arc.

I am seriously thinking about dropping this manga. I am not interested in main characters who succeed with the power of luck and do the right thing all the time and even if they don’t it doesn’t matter, because they are lucky. The only thing that makes it look like Yona may face some consequences is Keishuk, though I suppose he may end up being beaten by her power of luck.
I hear you, and feel the same of lucky pot for the main character. Tbh, I don't mind if Yona accomplished things because of luck.
However, I don't like the way the writer delivered her to be the most SPECIAL than anyone and this would make me drop this manga.
All I see is their teamwork makes good things happen, not Yona alone.
Although I like Yona because she's brave, and good heart, I don't see the difference between Yona, Lily and Tao. All of them put their best effort to resolve problems and help their countries.
Only one thing I give Yona the best score is her point of view about Suwon.

Well, she is the MC. Its her story. Everything is gonna be about her. Believe me, a long time ago i was putting my hopes up for some minor characters to shine/take center stage but at the end of the day, they cant beat yona.

The way i see it, i dont think yona is gonna be robin hood up to the very end and soowon still be in the throne. With how the xing arc being all about her ‘accomplishments’ and ‘influence’, she’s not a nobody anymore. The author characterizing her MC like that is setting her up for the big league.

And here we go again... Same BS comments of how Yona's character is being written as always right, no consequences, no mistakes, luck... blah blah blah. Honestly, if you're this broken up about Yona's character, I'd love to see your take on Soo-won's character...oh wait I have and you're fine with him. Not just fine, you complement him on the fact that he gets whatever he wants(without having to lift a goddamn finger), makes no mistakes and always has a perfect plan for everything he's faced with(except Yona). But no, forget about the blatant Gary Stu/perfect character and how he gets his achievements and complain about how the main character, who literally puts her life on the line in everything she does, gets stuff done or finds another ways to solve a certain problem, other than through War.
