I like the interview articles ANN does, they did one of Horikoshi from SDCC and now on Darling in the Franxx. It's worth a read cause they talk about how animation production begins and how debate goes down with stuff like detail in characters' hair and story direction. Funniest quote:

Q: Your experience on this show – it generated a tremendous amount of conversation. Mr. Fukushima experienced some harassment on social media because of it. Were you taken by surprise by the amount of conversation you managed to create, and will your experience with the fans this time around change the way you interact with your audience on future projects?

FUKUSHIMA: My Twitter account exploded halfway through the series, but for better or worse I learned that a whole lot of people watched this series, not just in Japan. I kept hearing all the voices from Japan and overseas – it made me feel like people are actually watching what I'm doing, so it was actually a good feeling in the end. I can't go to sleep when the Twitter notifications are going off, though, so please hold off on your passion for a bit. The reaction for episode 14 was unexpected. Episode 13 created a little hubbub, but episode 14 just exploded – mostly it was from overseas. Not many Japanese people expressed hatred, but we got plenty of hate mail from America and Europe. We were taken by surprise, but it isn't going to change how we do things. Besides, all that feedback died down by episode 15.

Not surprising it was mostly crackhead anime fans in the west and not the japanese crowd but it makes you wonder why people go so far for this lol. The picture in my head has always been fictional romance was just something nice to look at and speculate on but unfortunately humanity in these situations has not developed that far to create non-toxic dialogue.

To be honest, the responses from the Japanese crowd were the stock "Die", "wtf" and whatnot, in other words, normal stuff on that side. The western side usually doesn't say stuff like this directly to the producers so this sudden tidal wave must have been quite something. Darlifra got quite a bit of hate on 5ch but I don't know whether they saw that.

HZ and a comment from Kawada on the latest Kinnikuman volume. Kinda reverse to how they normally do things, but oh well.
Is there by any chance a clear image of that Hinomaru & Kinnikuman pic ?

Also, holy shit Chihiro came back with a baby mama, HZ is becoming the chadest Jump manga :hip

I honestly think HxH came back with the worst timing and completely screwed whatever slight chances we had of getting something new. Even if it’s only for 10 weeks, it changes everything.
Unfortunately this seems like one of the more unfortunate situations in Jump. Even the editors can't control when Togashi wants to publish his new batch of chapters.

In regards to this trend of new gag/comedy mangam my biggest worry is that none of the editors, aside from maybe Yoritomi, really know how to raise a newbie to properly do gag manga. They've been passed on some nice gag manga but I don't see them raising up one. Sure you can say Isaka propped up Isobe but that eventually failed. The other comedy manga he's propped up are stuff like E-Robot, Invade You, and Devily Man. Comedy series need a unique rhythm that distinguishes themselves from others. They also need to be able to make a lot of people laugh, not just a certain group so that jokes/gags have to be really well written especially for Jump. Niche comedy manga will not last long unless there are some other forces involved.

never forget its not just romance, quite sure Horikoshi gets hate posts and death threats whenever he tries to do character development for Endeavour, or has Mineta moments.

If sales fell down in every earthquake in Japan, the manga industry would die.
A 6.1 Earthquake isn't something minor unlike what Japan generally gets..

I think sales would be affected, and perhaps your post impactful, if it was an earthquake that wasnt isolated to just the northern island of jpn (unless that region really has as much or more buying power than the rest of the nation), and if, well it was actually, at final measure, something stronger than what was received only just two years ago.

Really yes.

Here in Italy it would be a catastrophe, but in Japan it's nothing.

Shirai said it in one of the interview (either this year or last year) that the story is 50% done.

Also said that between 20-30 volumes would be the ideal length.

>20-30 volumes are the estimated goal
>10 volumes are out
>"We are in the final arc now"
That will be a long final arc if they still have this 20-30 volumes goal.

Final arcs that end up being longer than the length of the introductory segments always feel so weird.
