Ah Guns N‘ Roses. I was such a total fan-boy for years in my teens (I’m talking raving fanatic) but then almost completely grew out of them. Now I listen to a song or two from time to time but mostly for nostalgic reasons.

Never grew out of Nirvana though. Still so great.

No Doubt Underrated as heck.

As for my nomination, Dungen.. Strangely, this band is one of the most influential to come out of Sweden – huge bands/artists like Fleet Foxes, Jack White and Tame Impala call themselves big fans and even cite them to be their #1 favorite band in the world and a major influence – yet they’re not really that widely known. This is probably because they write songs exclusively in Swedish though; and the fact that they can still be such a huge influence despite the language barrier speaks volumes for the sound these guys produce. It’s just so damn good.

--- Double Post Merged, Sep 9, 2018, Original Post Date: Sep 9, 2018 ---

Today’s bands are all pretty great tbh. Offspring and Flogging Molly would’ve been near my favorites list ten or so years ago.

Backstreet Boys on the list and it’s not by @Xadyu? That’s a surprise.

[Organizized]

Of all their amazing songs, you end up picking the Eurovision one, Faust.

3. The Ark (8 points)

The most important band of my youth. I dare say their first two albums shaped me as a person more than any other band back when they came out. Ola Salo, besides his very distinct singing voice and fuck-the-haters attitude, is an incredibly inventive songwriter and an on-point lyricist. This band gave me strength to be the weirdo in a world set to ridicule and laid the groundwork for my belief in humanism, I dare say as much as a legend like David Bowie did.

I wish I could choose their best song and link it here but there are way too many to pick one. I’ll just include these two:

Spoiler

Elsewhere, Audioslave, Radiohead, Oasis, and to an extent Blue Öyster Cult all get my approval.

Tokio Hotel was a bit of a hate object back in school for me (during my GnR period), haven't spared them a thought in like a decade, I'd say. They're not nearly as bad as I made them out to be back then.

--- Double Post Merged, Sep 9, 2018, Original Post Date: Sep 9, 2018 ---

2. Vintage Trouble (9 points)

Seen these guys five times live now and every one of their shows has been 110% soul, energy and heart. They’ve got everything from heartfelt messages to songs like this one (below) which is just pure party energy all the way through, and they’re probably the tightest group I know still active. Amazing.

Spoiler

--- Double Post Merged, Sep 9, 2018 ---

So far only two of my picks have survived (though I bet my #1 will as well). All three of them quite obvious ones, so not surprised in the least. My #7 is quite likely to win it all, I say.

INXS is a solid pick.

And Led Ze... wait, LED ZEPPELIN
WAS A UNIQUE PICK!? /ragequit

--- Double Post Merged, Sep 9, 2018, Original Post Date: Sep 9, 2018 ---

Agree, The Rolling Stones, The Velvet Underground and Grateful Dead should’ve gotten points for sure. They were all on my Runner-up list (I’m pretty sure). Like I said, I had to make a choice between Stones, Kinks and the one that’s yet to come. Velvet Underground is so awesome and groundbreaking in their own way but couldn’t fit them on there. :/

--- Double Post Merged, Sep 9, 2018 ---

1. Led Zeppelin (10 points)

Four of our time’s greatest musicians, all in one band. Few since have ever come close to matching the sense of immortality to their songs, their sound. And they never had a “less great” period during their career (yes, I love even In Through the Out Door, fight me). Any other band getting my #1 spot is almost unthinkable.

Spoiler

BUT I GUESS THAT MEANS NOTHING TO ANYONE ELSE!
