Thanks for posting! So David sold around 3,3k? Hurts to see manga I like doing so horribly. Jimoto ga Japan seems like a gigantic bomb for Shueisha.

Probably have to wait to see how the anime does.
Like we all guessed, it was probably a case where the anime and manga were planned simultaneously from the get go(maybe due to sponsors or an endorsement deal).
But it’s possible the anime could either spark a giant jump. Or the anime could be a hit, while the manga remains a poor seller.

Either way, the anime was probably planned before the manga, so I doubt Jimoto was chosen for an anime because Shueisha expected good sales, or giant popularity right out the gate

KnY: Showed some growth but not that much higher compared to last volume, wonder if it can at least maintain the pace to stay ahead of past volume

TBH I'm going to be so mad if Kinnikuman (and Toriko) doesn't join Jump Force
I can tell you right now I haven't been following that much of jump Force news but from what I been seeing its lacking greatly in diverse series and compared to games like Ultimate stars and J stars which because those games were japan only which allowed them to add as many series as possible and I think their are trying to be like marvel with this game , but the big difference between Marvel and Jump force right now is that Marvel gives spotlight to a lot of Niche characters like ant man and black panther sure they are popular now but back then those characters weren't as much hack in the 90s I think spider man and wolverine were probably the most popular marvel characters and if we want to go even further before smash bros Fire emblem was struggling in the west and wasn't making back a lot of the unit sales it wasn't until N64 hit and fire emblem became somewhat popular ( one of the reasons we got Path of Radiance I actually) I feel at the moment Jump force isn't taking advantage of what it means to be the 50th anniversary I'm seeing a lot of Japanese fans being frustrated Mr Nakajima which is understandable the game is supposed to be their anniversary over in japan and the fact that we don't actually celebrate here is confusing to say the least I can tell you in my own opinion jump forc makes me actually appreciate the games before it which is good thing at least.

Edit to add to the Fire emblem thing awaking made the games even bigger but my point is nobody would know what Fire emblem was if not for smash

Seems people who were predicting TPN to get Shingeki big or even a million seller better start reneging on their bets as if it's only selling 10K per volume backlog a week its gonna take quite awhile to reach those thresholds. V1 only selling 300k more puts it out of range of reaching landmark chart busting status end of year

Your argument for digital sales pretty much counters itself.
We have no numerical data for WSJ series and yet we have people here blatantly stating it as if it was a relevant source of evidence that a series is doing well even you pointing that sales argument is stupid "with start of digital sales". I've always been of the opinion that the digital sales average across the industry/market should not be applicable to WSJ or an individual distributor.

The few lists we have available show a very similar trend of tops series. I'm not gonna even try to imply that gives the whole picture. But my argument based on these few available data is WAY more valid than the non-existent data people like to throw around here.
And TBH, if digital sales for WSJ series were spectacular, WSJ would be advertising it like crazy because digital is the new medium, we all know that. Them showing that their series are doing well in the digital market space would have a positive impact especially for their digital platforms. The fact they haven't released anything even for a big ass series like One Piece or MHA more likely hints at it not being a big factor in their sales percentage yet.

I rest my case. Stop bringing up digital sales because as of now, it might well as be non-existent for most of WSJ series.
Usually these aren't worth responding to but I'll make an exception since you usually make sense. Why wouldn't you expect Jump titles to follow the trend of selling more digitally than in print, or even coming close? Out of all magazines, why would Jump just happen to be the sole exception?

You have no empirical evidence to prove this, and yet here you are parading your supposed facts without numbers, something you love calling others out for. Seems a bit hypocritical.

This is the boost before the start of the anime, the boost post episode 1 of the anime its a 20k per volume probably.

JoJo question.

When Steel Ball Run started in WSJ was it placement low in the magazine before it moved to Ultra Jump?

I understand that when it started in WSJ it was some time after Stone Ocean, and was treated as a new series

Why would you expect it to sell more digitally as well? Do we have anything showing that digital trend in the manga industry follows the physical trend? We don't. I'm not denying it doesn't follow it. But neither can anyone here give any figures that state it does follow it. My comment was based on the few digital sales list we have that show a different market trend. Of course, few lists don't give the whole picture but again, my whole point was my assumption based on 2-3 lists is definitely more credible than someone assuming something based on NO list which is what people seem to do here.

My whole opinion on this has always been to NOT include digital sales into discussion until we get solid information. People cannot let that go, so here we are.

Also, not that it matters for the manga industry since you cannot say it'll follow the same trend as other industries BUT digital trend and physical trends vary A LOT in the music industry. There are many artists who don't do well in the digital market but sell way more traditional physical copies of music and vice versa. You cannot put your foot down and say the same won't apply here.

SBR had a strong start placing in the top 10 but from chapter 9 began to decline in the ranking (also adding that the manga entered into hiatus frequently) until in chapter 23 was moved to the Ultra Jump. A wise decision.

The safest route for digital sales is to apply the 30-60% modifier rule of thumb that has been universally accepted and logically worked through in a previous thread here, creating a confidence interval for the manga sales. Ignoring or leaving out the influence of digital manga distorts and leads to incorrect and ill-informed conclusions. As has already been shown, Oricon has been off in comparison with the publisher, which already casts some shadows of doubt onto the conclusions that people are already manga even when they blindly ignore the influence if digital manga sales.

A relevant example for why its not logical to ignore or not include digtal manga sales is simple. No one makes financial decisions just based on the amount of paper money they carry in their purse or wallet. WE make decisions based on our digital currency + cash on hand + value of our other assets,, therefore, no one makes manga conclusions based only on physical volume numbers, they make conclusions based on the entire picture

Jojo never ever was a high ranked series, just looking at example from Stardust Crusaders last chapter ranking (for the middle of Dio battle) is in the bottom half of the magazine.
