Here in Spain Kimetsu managed to be Trending Topic in middle of a freaking Real Madrid vs Atletico football game, which is a BIG feat.
Something also really big was demon slayer being trending while Epstein's suicide which was very hot news in America. For sure this has really been crazy for KnY overall.

Here's another interesting topic (pretty please)

Given how KnY is still growing in sales and peak, what do you think would be its actual sales peak?
600-650k is not far off right now. It's print numbers should be around that tbh.
How you define a sales "peak" first week? first month? yearly sales?

Talking about it, i got really impressed when i noticed the official Yaiba account on twitter is at 500k followers, precisely 551k right now, its already above Haikyuu's official account and only behind Haikyuu's anime account that have 735k. It's funny because series like BNHA and Neverland that are "bigger" series are quite behind, specially Neverland despite both having very big animes in Japan and worldwide.
That's because many MHA fans follow Horikoshi, who has 881k followers

That's the power of Ufotable. Unlimited Budget Works, anyone?

BTW, on another note, once things have cooled down somewhat in Jump and TPN, WNL, KNY and likely Yuuna have all concluded, what do you guys think Jump is missing the most?

Pretty much everything? Obviously discounting any new hits that come up until then, everything will be battle manga except Haikyuu (which is on a big decline if the anime doesn't remedy it) and Dr. Stone (which is still failing to grow much).

So Act-age and Mitama are battle manga. Can't wait for their upcoming fighting games. Who is going to win a fistfight between Chiyoko and Yonagi
Also, I don't think great animation is necessary to boost manga sale. 5toubun got a subpar adaptation and became one of Kodansha bestsellers. Meanwhile, Vinland Saga got the best adaptation fans could wish for, and its sale is still relatively the same.

Act-Age, as I noted, is considered a sports manga, cultural type by the JP community, though obviously that kind of distinction is a shaky one.

Mitama is a tad tricky seeing as gag manga aren't exactly sellers (especially nowadays, with many readers specifically starting with the volumes instead of Jump itself). It seems the JP community genuinely likes it, though, so there's a genuine chance it will stick around regardless, even if sales aren't exactly great.

There's also Yozakura, but right now the chances of that series sticking around seems about 50/50, it can go either way.

Miitami is guaranteed to survive if Jump execs cut the number of pages in half and turn it into designator last magazine gag manga. The latest chapter is solid and hit me with every single jokes.

As has also been noted in this thread, your evidence for claims like "Act-Age is considered a cultural sports manga by the JP community" is circumstantial at best. Your friend in Japan is not a viable source, and therefore it might not be super productive to keep sharing their perspective as the perspective of an entire community.

I forgot about Act-Age. I guess Jump will be lacking everything except battle manga AND acting drama then XD.

Miitama is just too new to just assume it'll be there next year. Same for Yokazura family. I don't read Chainsawman so I'm not sure if it breaks the mold enough to be considered a different genre than the classic battle manga.

Jump considers Chainsaw a battle manga, at least. One of the issue previews were of cards with "types", and Chainsaw's was battle (that preview didn't include AA, Stone or Neverland, so we don't know how Jump lists them).

Regarding people who are saying “S8 is hated and disliked in Japan”, where is this info coming from? Twitter, Japanese Forums and ppl you know from Japan?

I’m not doubting that there are probably Forums, and social media’s where ppl talk about how much is sucks. But that is not a good way to determine how much something will sell at all.

Classic story of Summer 2019. The Lion King remake. The entire internet BLASTED arhat movie. Talked about how lifeless and bland it look. There are countless Youtube videos talking about how trash the film is. Countless tweets of Lion King fans of the original saying the movie look abysmal and is going to fall. Yet despite that, the movie went on to become one of the highest grossing films of all time.

Classic story of late 2018. Spider-Man Into The Spiderverse. A movie that was praised for its revolutionary visuals, story telling, and acting. The movie received more praise across the Internet than any modern Spider-Man movie ever. Went on to win high profile awards n everything. Yet, despite that the endless twitter, forum, and internet love it received, it’s the lowest grossing Spider-Man film of all time. Selling now where near even the terrible Spider-Man films.

I’ve yet to see a single person on twitter or YouTube argue that Lion King Remake is good. But tons of ppl I’ve seen in real life, or ppl I’ve on apps like Facebook, where I personally know them LOVE the film. When I went to see the movie the movie had a standing ovation.
On the Internet I’ve yet to see anyone say nothing but high praise about Spiderverse. But “in real life”, I’ve met tons of ppl who didn’t even know the movie existed until it was on Netflix. Or tons of ppl who refused to see it because it was a cartoon and not live action.

Granted, these are American films. But point is, “internet reception” doesn’t mean a damn thing when it comes to sales and “real life” reception. I’m not in anyway saying that S8 couldn’t flop. Just think it’s a bit silly when ppl think it’ll flop just because it has mixed reception, even in Japan. It’s impossible to predict how sales will go, especially with a popular creator.

Good points I don't disagree with necessarily...but I think you're forgetting the effect advertising and marketing has in that solution. Lion King was marketed heavily on the nostalgia on a movie people saw decades ago (a film which is one of Disney's biggest ever, it should be said), done by a company that has an extremely tight grip on the film advertising on a whole as the biggest media conglomerate in the world. Spiderverse meanwhile was marketed quite heavily to comic fans and animation junkies over general audiences, it was going to fight an uphill battle even though critics and the internet adored it..

Samurai 8, thus far, has seen very little advertising for Vol 1, not even a color page. It'll be selling itself purely on the status of Kishimoto's background. Which, hey, isn't a meager statement, but manga is more reliant on word-of-mouth for early volume sales than advertising.

You can find countless examples of this in many different mediums.

Teen Titans Go, despite insanes amount of panning online, and tons of ppl who talk about how garbage it is, still manages to be extremely success. More successful than the original series. And even had a successful theatrical run. With a lot of ppl outside of the internet saying “hmmm... it’s not that bad 🤷🏽‍♂️“

Tuca & Birdie, a show that had nothing but praise, and was even trending due to its quality writing, and yet still got cancelled after 1 season.

50 Shades of Grey, despite being called one of the worst novel series ever online, and being demolished in every single social media platform for its abysmal writing, still found a huge fanbase with middle aged woman, and had a massively successful film franchise.

Fairy Tail, despite practically being the poster child for generic shonens, and is basically a meme for having bad writing and storytelling, still remained a massively popular series til the end and maintained its large fanbase.

On top of that, you could easily make that same argument for success you have about Lion King for S8, should it succeed.

And we are forgetting that the majority of Naruto's fans are in their late 20s and 30s, meaning they might not be reading WSJ anymore and might just solely pick up the initial volumes of S8 to see "what's happening with Kishimoto?" because WSJ has been hyping this up as Kishimoto's return. So, who knows.

Question: How big would the boosts be when Jujutsu Kaisen, Act-Age, and Chainsaw Man get their anime adaptations?
Bones getting JJK would be the dream. If they do get it, I hope they make it very stylistical. A studio like Madhouse/MAPPA would be nice for CSM, though I don't trust MAPPA as much right now. I think Production IG would be a good choice for an Act-Age anime. As for the boosts, I think that if the adaptations are done right I hope can go up to 350-400k, 250-300k, 150-200k within a month for JJK, AA and CSM, respectively.

This a really good point, and I feel like the latter can't be emphasized enough. Kimetsu no Yaiba is good stuff, and I don't think people would still be watching if the narrative wasn't good, but its popularity also seems to be in no small part due to the incredible job Ufotable did animating the fight scenes. I personally started watching after seeing the sequence from Episode 19 out of context. It wasn't really on my radar yet before then, and now I've watched the whole dang thing and I'm starting the manga. This feels like a phenomenon that is not unique to me.

So yeah, I think Act Age, Jujitsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man all have the potential to get big boosts from their animes. As long as the animes themselves are A+.
Honestly, KNY's narrative in the beginning isn't very good. It's very slow and doesn't know where to go until around the Drum House Arc. However, Ufotable did an amazing job with it's production throughout the whole run so the audience that started the series in the beginning stayed. Then, when episode 19 hit and people were highly interested in the show, the audience had good material to go back to and get deep into the series as a whole.

Samurai 8: Hachimaruden #1-2

Breathtaking stuff. These HQ covers saved my life.

Vinland Saga isn't much about the animation, to be honest. Of course, it has crazy fights that are well made, but its main selling point is the story telling that really makes you feel like you are back in the 1000s. I don't think that was enough to gather more attention, though. 5-toubun is a whole unique case, that boost still feels like a fever dream.

As Nakano pointed out in the talk with Takekawa, this is actually true of the industry in general. From the talk:

All of these changes are being made to address the changing landscape of manga, namely the fact that paper magazine circulation is falling while digital consumption is on the rise.

During the interview, Nakano explained how this change has caused a pretty significant shift in how manga get popular. In general, manga take much longer to catch on nowadays than before, as fewer people are reading the magazines and are only picking up the collected volumes as they release a couple of months after the initial magazine printing.

Yet, these changes also bring with them new audiences. Hiroyuki Nakano brought up Kimetsu no Yaiba during the interview as an example of a series that took a while to catch on, but when it did, brought in a whole new audience of people who don’t usually read Jump.

I forgot that Japan would face Ireland at Rugby World Cup. They won! Like I said before, home team is unpredictable!
I have a feeling that Beast Children is going no where for the time being.

I'm, like, 90% certain the series has already been canceled...

maybe cite your sources for once? I've yet to see people from JP community consider act-age a sports manga.
