@Kharthas exactly my point.. Shueisha isn't stupid enough to lie as that would be pretty much equal to tax evasion and not only that but not paying loyalties to Gotouge for the "missing" 2 million volumes Oricon is reporting that Shueisha isnt lol
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting that anyone is lying in regards to this situation.

I'm saying it's *possible* that a mistake was made, or that up-to-date information may not have been available at the time the article was written. Mistakes happen, no one is perfect, after all.

Again though, the yearly Oricon sales numbers will be posted in just a few days, so we will know for sure once and for all.

We all need to just ride this one out until that time. It's for the best.
Ok, I will just stop discussing this topic, as you said we probably just need to wait a few days and see what Oricon's numbers are.

Except a few days feels like an eternity in here.... by the time the Oricon numbers comes out, we'll still have 6+ pages talking about the validity of Shueisha's claim. :-_-

It won't come to that, I'll make sure of it. Besides, we'll have the 2020 ToC thread up and running by then, so hopefully that'll be a welcomed distraction.

When you think about it... Kimetsu's volume 1 sales were probably around 15k (Anyone has info on that?) even Kuroko no basket's sales were low at first IIRC and it became one of Jump biggest sellers of the decade (thanks, similarly to Kimetsu, to its huge anim boost)...

Makes you wonder if there were any series that Jump cancels prematurely that perhaps with some extra time/a good anime can become some of the best sellers in the magazine, sure from time to time you have series like Psyren that probably never got an anime offer, and then you have series like Black Clover which even with an anime never got a boost...

Just something we could discuss while waiting for Oricon numbers lol

Putting aside how Shueisha came up with those numbers, will their reputation take a hit if Oricon ends up with Kimetsu beating OP and directly contradicting their claim about OP being number one for 13 years straight? Wouldn't it be an extremely awkward moment for them?

BC did get a decent boost though. WNL and Dr.Stone are the ones not getting much from their respective anime, relatively speaking.

Oda won't allow anybody to beat One Piece. He will force the editors to not make any KNY reprints before the ranking is out. And when One Piece is the #1 again people will only hear "Zehahahaha!!" coming out of his house.
Told you guys that Oda won't allow anyone to overthrown him.

Kimetsu Vol 1 is estimated by Shoseki to have done about 28K in one month.

@Buranchi the 20 million sales is supposed to be for the whole franchise IIRC (So Novels were counted too), but IIRC the last official announcement regarding actual Kimetsu no yaiba manga sales was 16m.

@Gorilla I made a huge post a couple days ago where I basically said the same, it was for the best that super long series that had been reining for more than a decade (Naruto, BLEACH, Gintama) ended and now, while it's not a golden age in the sense that Jump has the best line of best sellers it has ever had, it's a golden age in the sense that most titles are truly competing against each other and have the possibilities to actually surpass each other (Think how Kimetsu overtook every title even Boku no hero academy which has been heralded as the next pillar of Jump ever since its first anime season boost).
I feel like the Big 3 Era is both Jump at its most developmental and also at its most inconsistent. Lots of series went in very odd directions with no clear goal or meaning, but became successes that influenced later generations regardless. It's an interesting era to look at, at any rate.

As amusing as that sounds.... that'd just put Oda and Shueisha under investigation of corruption or something like that...

I’m just happy Kimetsu surpassed Neverland and Hero Academia.

Ok guys, with 2020 shaping this way:
-Neverland, Nanatsu, and 5toubun ending soon (but still with anime seasons 2)
-Slime being Slime
-Shingeki maybe ending, maybe a lot of things
-OPM getting like only 2 volumes in the year

Do you think Jujutsu has any chance of ending in Oricon top-10 at end of 2020?

For the moment it has two things for that:
-Anime (aka sales boost)
-Double volume release in January (also, manga sales will surely increase with anime announcement).

I mean, that's a bit of a vague question, but I'd say it's likely, at any rate? It's been happening most years, at least.

That said, I'm not really sure I want a veteran back. Going off the list of vets who'd plausibly return some time soon, Shimabukuro is too limited (basically everything he does will draw comparisons to Takeshi or Toriko), Shinohara seems to be currently suffering from writers block, Kubo I don't want back because of his health issues making him drawing a serialization an extremely difficult prospect, Asou I struggle to see him creating a work which could remotely compare to Saiki, and Komi is...dated, I guess? Matsui seems like the only one I can easily see making another hit, but even then I feel like I'd prefer new authors to continues manga's evolution, rather than the same creators continuing to find little of true merit.

This whole situation sounds so fishy right now. Better wait for Oricon Yearly Sales.
I mean, Shueisha didn't bother to correct the number last year where OP didn't even reach 8.2 million, according to oricon at least, because it was #1 anyway.

This year there was Stampede (One Piece's movie), One Piece started a very hype arc in both manga and anime (the anime actually looks pretty decent now) so... Those are a few reasons I can think of for One Piece selling 13m (against last year's 8m).

The problem is why Kny loses 2M and OP gaines 2M? 2M isn't a small number. Was the number of Sheisha and Oricon's too different (2M) last year?

Stampede was a fanservice movie. It wasn't aimed for getting in new readers who were interested in the film, it was just a love letter filled with as many characters and references as humanly possible. Per Shoseki, it did very little if anything for backlogs, despite the film doing big numbers.

Burn the myth that the series starting a "Hype Arc" will boost sales. What boosts sales is exposure, word of mouth, and accessibility. OP is literally one of the most famous manga in the world, it can't get "more exposure", and it's widely considered incredibly difficult to get into due to the massive amount of backlog, which would take one weeks of time and a fair amount of cash to get through. And, insofar as "word of mouth", Wano has a very mixed reception in Japan due to its slow pacing, it's not nearly the hype machine Water 7 or Marineford were. And Marineford didn't actually boost sales wither.

When does Oricon come out?

And imagine if this is a 200IQ marketing scheme for Kimetsu. They go "wait no Kimetsu won!!!" Later on.

Either way this is stupid. Are we to believe Shueisha people aren't aware of Oricon's existence?

And how is the sales number extrapolated from the partial selection of bookstores? I had mistakenly assumed Oricon numbers were not an extrapolation and we're not limited to only bookstores. Because I can attest that hella people buy tanks from combinis.
