Damn, yorichi was just too pure for the world... The contrast between him and his brother is just incredible.
They both were. Yoriichi was just the lucky one between the two. He had a mother who fought for his life, had the see through world, and then ended up being the one forced to eventually be a monk, which eventually led to his freedom. Michikatsu kinda got the short end of the stick. Yeah he was raised in a regal manner and all, but he was forced to be a warrior from birth which is a lot of responsibility, and his father probably mistreated him for showing the kindness that he did. Plus, his being mistreated explains why he always wanted to be Yoriichi.

I just gotta wonder how the demon hunters fought demons for hundreds of years without breaths... Their mortality rates are terrifying as it is...

Tsugikuni-s are back! knew michikatsu pov was distorted but was not expecting this ;-; we got yoriichi pov on his mother, michikatsu, his feelings about leaving home, and lastly his family. I'm inconsolable, the way he's apologetic for burdening his mother. Michikatsu, I honestly see why yoriichi didn't think his brother was anything but kind and loved him, he was so sweet this is heart breaking, I don't understand! his betrayal must have been a stab, I wonder of this second visit to the coal burners is after kokushibou debut. The panel where he held his child hand was heart breaking. There are three mysteries regarding yoriichi, his motive for going after muzan, the circumstances of his failure, and his connection to the coal burners family, one was answered I hope my heart can take the rest

Tamayo is the oldest demon of the known UM generation, she looked beautiful as always, I think beside nezuko she was the best demon to serve muzan's hope of conquering the sun, like nakime she's not a combat demon for her to be granted a seat near him.

Sumiyoshi and this toddler, seams to be a daughter, I wonder how yoriichi felt when sumiyoshi was coddling her, she looks a tad like his wife and child. Speaking of his wife she seams like a sweat, warm person, I hope he remarried,,, probably not,,,

Wait, so Kokushibou/Michikatsu was a good brother but the abuse made him alter his memories and stuff?

And even when he was dying he never remembered? Damn... :feelsbadman

How many bad fathers do we have now?
Their father was heartless, superstitious and into appearances, but I don't think he takes the fall for kokushibou's missteps. Michikatsu was looking down on yoriichi early on, which compromise the sincerity of his kindness, that wouldn't be a big problem if it didn't turn into full blown contempt later on. The painful part it was not something yorichi picked on and inferiority on michikatsu end

Michikatsu like hakuji definitely had a lot of good qualities but committed grieve crimes of their accord. The only other bad father I can think of is the shinazugawa and that didn't afflict his children relationship

They both were. Yoriichi was just the lucky one between the two. He had a mother who fought for his life, had the see through world, and then ended up being the one forced to eventually be a monk, which eventually led to his freedom. I dare disagree, it's only natural for a mother to fight for one of her children life, she would've acted the same if it was michikatsu. The see through world was more of a curse at the time since it alienated yori, and how is someone being chased from his home freedom, there was a reason he left early, he didn't want to trouble michikatsu. Yori family were ripped apart from him while michikatsu abounded his... yoriichi is gifted in the sword, nothing else. Michikatsu could've stayed by his brother side and maybe someday reach out to his family again and introduce them to their uncle who's fighting evil, but he couldn't because his reasons were inherently selfish. I think michikatsu was awfully prideful as pivotal point in his character, not only did he want to be better than yoriichi he believed their generation was superior to all previous and later generations, heck he killed the children in his battle arc. Even if he surpassed yoriichi I doubt he'll ever be satisfied

This is my favorite siblings set after the kamado. Good chapter 10/10, please more flashback next

This entire manga is a tragedy tbh, dear fucking god it's one tragedy after another
On the other hand, I have no doubt Tanjiro will learn the Sun Breathing now through his ancestor's memories. That's the only way it will work

It's called being sympathetic towards himself not being to save her in time and blaming himself for it. It isnt weird at all, it's more of reflecting what he couldve done better

Dance of the fire God is the sun breath, it was just hidden in the name of dance of the fire God. Through rough translation Tanjiro was thinking if Yoriichi could teach him the 13th form.

Anybody else notice that the Demon slayer that found Yoriichi was a descendant of the Rengoku family and the first flame pillar?

I am not entirely sure about that. Did we receive official confirmation that the dance of the fire god is the sun breath ? To me, it seems the dance of the fire god is the closest thing to the sun breath, but not quite that either

Poor Yoriichi all he wants simple normal life nothing more he got drag in to his tragedy due to Muzan just like most of our cast. Well Yoriichi technically fail everything save his wife and children, kill his brother who was a demon and fail to kill Muzan.

Hope he rewrite his mistaked somehow by giving Tanjiro big power boost and have him master breath of the sun. I guess in this memories Tanjiro will learn how to master Breath of the sun. Hope he can use this to kill Muzan once and for all. I hope Muzan suffer the most agonizing death possible.

Nah, man. Michikatsu got the short end of the stick. The see through world never alienated Yoriichi since he CHOSE not to talk until he was 7 after seeing his brother practice all day to become a Samurai. No one knew or forced him into doing anything by the looks of it. He was just expected to be the subordinate and to just wait until he was 10 to be shipped off. His job was literally stay in the three tatami room. Literally nothing was expected of him by his father. The only way it helped him was his mother fighting to make sure he didn’t get killed, and him always going to help her all the time since he could always see what was wrong with her.

If anything, like I said Michikatsu got the short end of the stick. The man had to work tirelessly to the point his hands were getting damaged from the amount of effort he put into training everyday. Since BEFORE he was 7. Plus, he probably never had any true talent for the blade. His father’s subordinates probably said that because he was his fathers child. Hence why he could never land any hits on his trainer, while Yoriichi did so with extreme ease. His whole life was literally placed for him to be some type of epic warrior when the one that truly had all the skill for it was Yoriichi. Hence his wanting to be him. He was literally RAISED to look at himself as a superior warrior type and his younger brother as inferior yet he really didn’t based on the love he showed him getting him scolded and beaten. Obviously that would twist someone’s mind. The guy was just a 7 year old child. Did he really know what pity was, or was he taught what pity was by hearing people speak about how Yoriichi was constantly clinging to his mothers side since they didn’t have the see-through world like he did. Literally everything Yoriichi was good at was everything his entire life was fixated on from the time he was born. That’s an insurmountable amount of pressure to live up to, and for the person that you’ve been taught to pity to suddenly be able to do what you’ve been practicing tirelessly for to suddenly just do it on their first try is maddening.

Yoriichi’s leaving is another blow because the decision had seemed to have been made by the time the mother died to have them both switch places due to Yoriichi’s skills. Yoriichi just didn’t want his brother to lose his dream which had honestly just been forced upon him from birth. Literally the man was always light years ahead of him when he was made to believe he was better from birth. His entire understanding of life was being flipped upside down with no explanations while Yoriichi always had the ability to play things how he wanted. He CHOSE to FINALLY talk to his brother. The first person he talked to. He CHOSE not to follow the way of the blade because he hated hurting people. He CHOSE not to stay because he wanted his brother to live a happy life without him burdening his life. That CHOICE to leave led to him finding love. While it didn’t last as long as he wanted, it gave him a true sense of life and that emotion. All the while, Michikatsu HAD to become a strong Samurai. He HAD to train day in and day out till his hands were bleeding. He HAD to deal with not showing any emotion since he was EXPECTED to be a Samurai. He HAD to deal with possibly being shipped of to be a monk despite being raised to enjoy all the good things in life. He HAD to be wedded to another royal family to someone he most likely had no real love for. Yeah, the guy was spoiled, but what did he really have any choices over in life?

It was already been confirmed by kukoshibo that his breath is still alive who when he was showing that statement it showed tanjiro which we currently know using dance of the fire God. And yes it makes literal sense due to what has been said about it that it makes the user not get tired and can make u fight for a day using the tanjuro example while being so sick dancing in the snow from sunset to sunrise. Which now we know muzan csnt be killed by getting slashed by demon hunter or hashiras, which yoriichi would be no exception but to have foughtmuzan for 24 hours till sunrise.

Chapter was ok..I'll wait for better translation...Demon corps before they learned the breathes?? How?! Why?! I would have liked Yoriiuchi, to have founded the corps, as that would have made sense..

Pre Yoriichi Demon Corps must've been hardcore.

We know it's possible to kill demons without breathing as Gyomei, Muchirou, and Sanemi were able too, with the latter spending a portion of his life doing so. I imagine the first Pillars were the only Corps members at the time.

Yoriichi might be the reason we have the number of Corps members we do currently as he just made it more accessible to fight demons.

I'm also assuming his ability to use the See Through World is what allowed him to tailor certain Breathing techniques to certain individuals. That would explain why some people are unable to use breathing, like Rengoku's brother and Genya, or are incompatible with certain Breaths, like Tanjirou. It's all about the constitutions of individuals.

Makes me think how the hell Inosuke developed his Beast Breathing with no teacher. I know Inosuke is a unique genius like the other 3 Prospects, but this is another level.

Someone in chinese forum noticed some interesting fact...the clothe that yoriichi kept his brother flute in his last moment has same pattern as his wifes kimono, showing just how much those two meant to him..

That's definitely not how kokushibo perceived things though. We saw his point of view. certainly yorichi provides more context but it did not appear like kokushibo suffered from his dad, at least not that he remembered. He had embraced his role as first son and after seeing his brother's capacity he was driven by jealousy. kokushibo definitely to be like yorichi but it wasn't because he was mistreated.

I still can't align. Michikatsu is not worthless in the sword, he's very talented arguably more than any swordman we've seen beside yoriichi. An arranged marriage is not terrible especially in the time period and this story (enter uzui and ubuyashiki households) say he didn't love his wife which I doubt he loved his children yet he left them of his accord. And you're being contradictory, yoriichi brought misfortune on michikatsu either way by staying or leaving, that's not true, him leaving was true sacrifice michikatsu can not even think of, why didn't michikatsu leave everything and go live homeless while his brother inherent the estate, well that's crazy, who would do that especially as a kid, yoriichi and most older siblings in series minus michi, he's so stuck in his inferiority complex to take notice of yoriichi struggles. The worst part is that they are brothers, it's a reason for pride for your younger sibling to be doing better, one hope and advise them to avoid their mestakes. Still, I don't take issue with michikatsu attitude as a child (say it's setting-programming) as much as an adult but the thing is the seeds started in his childhood.

Yoriichi appreciated the little things like a hand made flute and the sacrifice of sneaking over, michikatsu took offence to his younger brother sacrificing the estate for his sake. His dream as a child was to be best samurai, yoriichi dream was to be second best. Yoriichi gave up because he didn't like hurting people, michikatsu gave up (his dream, family, humanity) because he wanted to best yoriichi. Waaay into adulthood, after reading his mother diary, probably knowing his brother past, eye witness demons and their damage he still did not pull it together, ye I can't blame intense family upbringing for that. I understand his circumstances and that's what your paragraphs beautifuly put BUT NOT his conclusions.

Summary: michikatsu has high spec but he didn't see it, and I don't say yoriichi life sucked but as his brother he should have wished him the best even if he was a clutz with goodwill, no excuses

Dude when I think how yoriichi must have felt when michikatsu was turned to a demon,,, how didn't he just go fry muzan.

Another bit from the chapter which caught my attention.. Yorichi talking about him teaching others breathing.

According to the records demon hunters have and kokushibo yorichi was the one who taught them all breathing techniques. However the way yorichi phrases this is substantially different from that. Yorichi makes the point that he simply taught them breathing which they used with their own sword forms. From yorichi's perspective he wasn't teaching them sun breath derivatives, he was merely passing on how to use breaths. Which... is probably the result of yorichi's staggering genius. To yorichi it probably just looked like the hashira were developing their own breaths. And seeing how he is he probably thought it was wonderful witnessing how new forms were being born like that. meanwhile the other hashira and demon slayers probably thought they simply couldn't master the sun breath and instead went with lesser versions which they could manage. It's almost a shame that yorichi never seemed to grasp just how much of a genius he was with the sword.

And... based on the chapter it sounds like the hashira at the time were actually capable of taking on demons. I am of the idea that the hashira at the time were probably people like kanroji or himeyima... People with unique physiques that were nearly superhuman even without breaths. I doubt that before yorichi the demon slayers even had a chance against a lower moon. Though perhaps the reason the demon moons were formed was because yorichi seriously strengthened the demon hunters. It's kinda weird that demon moons don't seem to precede yorichi in spite of muzan having being around for 600 years before that.
