Kishi should have tried writing for a seinen magazine like WYJ instead of going back to the usual formula in WSJ. If Samurai gets moved/cancelled/ends naturally, I still would like him to come back with a new series that’s not for SJ. He has it in him to surpass Naruto in quality. I think he could pull off a good historical manga or a story more grounded.

Young Jump is even harsher than WSJ. Go to their thread and witness the rain of axe. I can't recall any hits in Young Jump since Kaguya.

I’m pretty sure Kishimoto meant that he was going to write a series he felt was better than Naruto. A series that he felt was just a more quality series. I highly doubt he believed he could easily make another 72 volumes, 15 year long, 200 Mill+ selling series.

The quality of S8 is subjective. But I’m sure he just wanted to make a better series. Don’t get how that comes off as foolish or arrogant of him to say. That should be the goal of every creator, regardless of how successful their last work was commercially or critically. The aim should be improving with time and making something better

Well, this is just like George Lucas with the prequel again. We all see how it ends up.
I hope S8 at least could spawn something similar to prequel memes But S8 is not at that level of bad yet, quite pity and unentertained.

Is Samurai 8 selling better or worse than elDLIVE and Astra Lost in Space? Just had a thought, since they're all big wsj creators returning with a sci-fi series.

The other two were held to different standards of course, being on Jump+, and I'd imagine Jump+ stuff having a higher percentage of everyone's favourite digital sales than usual (since you had to read new chapters digitally anyway), but the three do fit together thematically. Those two however both had complete runs as series, while that seems somewhat unlikely for S8.

I can't really talk about Samurai 8 due to me not having read it; But I feel that Kishimoto should try to make something completely different , like that one Mario one shot he did a couple years back.

Well Astra and eldlive were large enough to be among the few Jump+ series to get anime adaptations

It will only do 2 more at most. The gentle arc isn't that short so they can get through I'd they rush it. From what I remember though is that A VS B arc is kinda long so they can only fo the gentle arc and pro Hero arc

I think he was talking about Remedial Course Arc, Cultural Festival Arc and Pro Hero Arc.
