Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Hmm, so something interesting happened with MangaPlus, huh.

From what I gathered, they removed every duplicate view from all the series (as in, a person clicking on a chapter multiple times, or a person clicking on different chapters from the same series). Which means, only one IP view per one series from now on.

So, the wraparound praises the series as a "スパイ家族コメディ" - a "spy family comedy", huh... you know, if I was a book store employee and saw a customer with this volume in their hand, unsure of themselves, I would just recommend them SPX x FAMILY instead 🤣 🤣

But haven't the Chinese on Twitter triggered yet because their president appears in DN's One Shot?

Twitter is banned in China, and I doubt the ones circumventing that block would feel the need to "defend" Xi.
Aside from that, while Trump and Shinzo Abe are pretty recognizable, the Chinese president in the DN one-shot has a comparatively very low resemblance with Xi Jinping.

What are you even trying to imply?

China doesn’t use twitter. They have something called Weibo as their version of twitter, which actually has a bigger userbase than twitter

Late to the party, but that resolves that. Kind of. That is as quick as a response as you can get, honestly. Now the whole thing can blow over without hopefully too much damage. People do make mistakes from time to time. If the name Maruta really referred to the project (in addition to the villains), then I can definitely see why he used it. It’s a perfectly fitting name for his character.

I’m just glad Hori made a statement and apologized for it. (Even if he didn’t apologize for it, he’s going to change the name, which is basically what people wanted anyway.) I don’t blame the countries directly affected by the atrocities if this soured HeroAca for them. Just as long as the author doesn’t make that mistake again.

(Also, to be really honest, fans are just gonna call him Ujiko or The Doctor anyways.)
I don't even think that was a "mistake" per se.... I'm pretty sure that the naming was absolutely intentional, but people ended up misunderstanding it and it just snowballed from there.

Yeesh, I wake up to see the MHA thing has only escalated. Anyway, I think this thread from one of the smartest people I know is worth reading:

If you read my previous post, you can kind of understand the reason behind that.

If I remember correctly, we had a poll on this. A popular response was Demon Slayer and The Promised Neverland.

Personally...MASHLE and Black Clover might be interesting. Maybe HeroAca and Chainsawman if only to give some in-universe reasoning for the recent cameo.
MHA X Zipman is more likely. If you look closely, there's a Zipman cameo in another page. Plus, Shibata belongs to the Horikoshi assistant tree.

MHA and KNY, mostly because of the whole Tanjirou is better than Midoriya thing, their interactions would be really wholesome, also the chaotic mess that would be Inousuke and Bakugou; CSM and JJK, because of their settings and MHA and HQ for the high school crossover.
Eri x Nezuko is a fine idea :verily (not shipping them, of course). Helps that there's plenty of crossover art of Eri taking Nezuko's place.

I want to see another Yuuna x WNL color page or something. It's pretty much a tradition at this point.

So I just read the newly translated Yuuna chapter.

-Temporarily moves the manga into the batch of established series that will most likely end this year, alongside Demon Slayer, The Promised Neverland, and We Never Learn-
I had kinda figured Yuuna would end this year, but the possibility of it stretching itself out into late 2020 felt pretty likely. They haven't done all the mysteries of the school yet iirc, so I'd think there would be another chunk of filler chapters (which there could still be). But this chapter gives off major endgame vibes, and is probably the start of the final serious arc, or at least a little prologue before some more filler chapters and then starting the final arc.

did Viz or M+say anything about the 2 digital only miniseries? I really don't wanna have to buy the JP mag just for 2 manga

nope. They started in issue 10 didn't they? I doubt we're getting them in that case.

I'm sorry for bringing this back to topic. This has gone out the hands. There are two active tags on Twitter, in Japanese and the one from the tweet below. They won't quit until Hori apologizes.

^41 likes, that thing is basically none-existent. But at this point it might be government trolls who see an oppurtunity to humiliate a famous Japanese. They like that kinda stuff. Provides nice distractions from other stuff, like say a virus or government officals stealing military-grade masks to keep themselves safe and not the doctors working at the front.

Eh, to each their own. Although to be fair, the similarities stretch a bit beyond that. Doesn’t help that both mangaka are actually friends, and that both serializations started and ended in similar timeframes. And if things keep going the way they are, both of them will have similar winners.

Personally, I found there to be this relatively constant forward momentum that 5toubun had that WNL simply doesn’t. It always felt as if each chapter was moving the plot along in some way to me, which is rare in a romcom. The beginning of the story is the weakest part, but I liked how it’s characters developed over the course of the story - I went from despising Nino to legitimately liking her, for example. Also, it was the only bowl harem romcom manga where I’ve felt where anybody could win, as opposed to WNL, where it always felt like it was going to be either Fumino or Sensei...until recently.

Of course, there’s flaws - I think WNL is poised to have a better ending simply because it’s taking its time - but overall I enjoyed myself. A lot of people seem to agree, considering the massive numbers it’s been pulling in. You can disagree with me on this, but this is just my perspective.
You were doing good, until you tried to put sales to give weight to the argument about a subjective opinion. Tons of romcom sold more than Gotoubun, even some with fewer volumes, so if we go by that, then you can already see my reasoning that people would think that those are better than Gotoubun.

Ah, I see. That’s my mistake, then. You’re right, sales and perceived quality usually have little to no correlation. I’m not exactly sure what made 5toubun popular in Japan (could be the all-star voice actors that brought a lot of attention and the show managed to keep it). I mainly just wanted to share my perspective.

So after reading Guardian of the Witch, i can see the both sides, i kinda dig the couple of main characters, the art and you can see a potential to become something good, but man, the author could have used the battle shounen textbook a bit less, or at least make a better climax, because overall the first chapter was super cliche, totally by the book and the whole city was clearly inspired by AoT, it wasn't bad but even more typical than Zipman but at least the first chapter of Zipman had a better climax for a battle shounen with a big battle, here it was just 4 weird dudes with knifes being defeated like flies, the rest was Fafner with the typical mc speech about "i will protect you and become the number one of something".

Again, i didn't think was bad but the author better be working for the next chapters because it can quickly become something totally forgettable.

About Mashle, i liked the second chapter, not as much as the first but i laughed specially with him lifting the weights while the others were cleaning wands or looking at books kkkkk Also, as a big and longtime Harry Potter fan, just imagining the potential for parodies already make me want the manga to survive kkkk

Undead Unluck keeps being something really refreshing, it's not perfect by any means, but the author really knows how to not make it boring.

even though it is "cliche" I’d prefer Guardian of the witch to undead unluck because he doesn’t appeal to a sexually suggestive joke.
And before anyone speaks, I know that chainsaw man has that kind of joke, too, but he's not that offensive.
