As someone who only started tracking sales with the Kamio/Saiyuki batch, it's nice to finally see some series perform well. Surprising that Yozakura did so well when loads of people here were trashing it not too long ago.
From what I can TL the summary.
1) Gotouge draws names fast, taking up to 1-2 days only to complete (compared to Oda 3-4 days and Sorachi 4-5 days)
2) Gotouge and the editor revised the things through phone and electronic fax
3) Inspiration for the work is Jojo (breathing styles and the undead/ghost)
4) Gotouge is a principled writer. When he/she doesn't want to change anything, he/she will persist in that, but when not related to principled issues, he/she will change things modestly. Then goes to follow about an example that Goutouge changed a thing after a suggestion (citing it is not easy to grab readers in the early days)
5) Gotouge planned to give up on the mangaka work in case Kimetsu wasn't serialized during 2015.
6) Tanjirou's design came up as a suggestion that his design as an ordinary guy should counter the more strange characters later on
7) Gotouge loves Gintama, and the comedy bits are inspired by it
8) Gotouge does not work for his/her's enjoyment, but thinks about how to make the readers enjoy the manga
9) There is a rumor around that Kimetsu no Yaiba once didn't do well and was in a desperate situation, which was never true. In fact, the editor calls Kimetsu a "lottery", which managed to get a Color Page for Chapter 7, suddenly decided out of nowhere because of the popularity.
10) Couldn't TL this, sorry
11) Kimetsu has never paid attention to the Jump slogan "Friendship, Effort, Victory". The editor has never used this as a standard. The standard of the work was whether it can make the readers to find it interesting, and that was all.
Gotouge being a speed demon with drawing reminds me of Mashima. I do wonder how prolific Wani-sensei could be if he/she opened up a social media account. I'm gonna fall off my chair if they end up spamming their account with sketches/drawings at the same rate Mashima does.

That's pretty informative and damn, what a story actually... To go from planning to quit to having the biggest series in recent memory in the span of just a few years. Also didn't think they considered kimetsu a success right from the very start, good to know.
The bit about Jojo surprised me though, didn't expect jojo to be the influence for kimetsu.
Luxury and fast fashion were once at opposite ends of a well-understood spectrum, but changing times and recent comments from an exodus of high-end creatives from luxury lines suggest a new order is emerging.
Zipman no, it feels more like Bozebeats and Saiyuuki to me where the first chapter had a good impact but since then it's gotten kinda boring not taking it's ideas anywhere fun. Yozakura by comparison has it's problems but I still find it fun to read as a silly episodic series.
Agravity Boys I can see doing well, it's getting bonus pages and it feels like it'll work well as a Gintama replacement (sci-fi mix, good character chemistry, fujo potential, and of course some toilet humour) which I'd bet the japanese audience has missed.
Yeah I agree China censorship is problem and we will see in future how companies will be greedy for China cash. I follow box office and superheroe movies make big bucks in China but films like Joker, Deadpool, Bohemian Rhapsody are proof that are worth make movies not suitable for China censorship but that is discussion not for this tread.
F* China. Don't care if its banned in that authoritarian state. Big Hollywood movies already suffered in quality since they started appealing to that market and started doing cooperation with their production companies.
Anyways, I didn't really want to post here for the last days because of the heavy political discussions here which kinda take the fun away of just talking about Jump. I get that with UU's case and its really fine If people can't stomach this type of content but the MHA discussion didn't really make much sense and got blown out of scale here. Hori clearly didn't have any intention with hurting anyone and chose the name because the dude is a bad evil doctor that does human experiments but yeah, don't want to start the topic again, so ill leave it at that. Would be nice if we could move away from this.
Isn't China second biggest market for anime after Japan? I'm not big expert about anime in China so far as I know Bilibili is popular service with mostly younger users (teen, young adult). Dunno about how much revenue came from China/Bilibili but it's nothing to celebrated.
So what? They don't have a hold on the industry like you're implying since AOT and SAO are still running and are still among the biggest anime running worldwide. This ban only cripples them since MHA was a big property over there and because of their overreaction they lost a moneymaker.

Horikoshi is Trending Topic in Spain. Spanish and Latin American fans are supporting Horikoshi (#SupportHorikoshi was also Trending Topic 1 in Mexico).
EDIT: Welp. First time ever I see Hero Academia being a Moment in Twitter (usually the only anime to get Moments in Twitter Spain are the mega-mainstream ones aka Dragon Ball, Naruto and Death Note).
Billibilli isn't on the production committee so they wouldn't have gotten revenue from that site anyways. Once again China has no hold on the anime industry and Japan doesn't make anime to appeal them it only helps failing anime more so than successful titles.
More than China or Korea banning Bnha, I'm more worried about Hori's health, all this backlash must've caused him troubles. Maybe he doesn't care but who knows.

? They'd still get money off streaming rights, merch etc.
Again, extra money is extra money, period.
And I don't even think Horikoshi should bow down and ask for forgiveness, he already addressed the situation adequately imo. The guys making this shitstorm don't look like people that will accept an apology in the first place anyways.
But acting like this situation doesn't affect shueisha/mha is wrong, it does and they're definitely not happy with the situation.
What extra money? The revenue they make in the foreign market is disproportionate to the money they make in Japan, all Shuiesha, Toho, Tomy and Bamco cares about is how the series does in it's country of origin hell China was among the last market to get MHA and that was AFTER it was a huge success. You are vastly over exaggerating how much of a big deal this is.

They've literally made one response on the outcry days ago and left it at that. Why would a JAPANESE made product be effected by being banned from CHINA? Death Note has been banned in China for over a decade and since then has had five live action movies, a TV series, merchandise and recently had a new one-shot released that had a great reception so please tell me how it being banned from China effected it? I'd really like to know how not being legally available in China stopped it from making money and continuing?

Japan also got their support Horikoshi's tag trending. It's also 1# in Russia, RUSSIA the same people who were victims of the same atrocities can see how stupid the hate mob is being.
Disproportionate or not, money is money. Even 5% of the total is still important, I don't see what's so hard to grasp.
And I'm really not exaggerating anything, I never said this was a huge deal. This is a really weird interpretation of my post.
Say you have 100 dollars/euros/whatever. You lose 5. Sure, you still have the remaining 95 so it's all good, but you'd probably still be unhappy about those 5 you lost. Simple as that.
@yadayada you're exaggerating how this would effect the series longevity and how much Shuiesha cares. Believe it or not they have had similar issues like this in the past and acted accordingly.
