Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

So now, who do you think would win between Luffy and Katakuri should they have a rematch? I know people are saying Luffy, but it doesn't look that easy, especially since Luffy doesn't seem to fight with Future Sight much. Plus, Katakuri did lose on purpose since Luffy won him over with his charms.
Luffy. He does have future sight and would use it, and his new haki move would make it easier. plus he has more stamina and power since that fight already.

Wouldn't be easy, Katakuri is a beast. But Luffy beats him straight up now (i agree that Katakuri let him win. Luffy was beatable a dozen times that fight, but Katakuri did it to help Luffy grow, he was amazed at his growth during the fight. Luffy surpassed him by the end. He's only gotten stronger).

Zoro trains non stop, and now with Enma if you think by the time he fights a decent opponent that he is at the same level he was coming out of the Time Skip you are clowning yourself.

while Zoro quickly passed out. I gave you the panels.
Do you understand that that hit and faint tell nothing about Zoro's power level?
Manga attributed the faint to hunger, not because of the hit. Did you miss that?

Yes, I understand that. I understand many things...like the argument you were making about how Zoro would be fine after Katakuri's attacks since Luffy was, which you are pulling out of...well, somewhere...

Manga didn't attribute antying to hunger.

Here is him falling:

No mention of hunger. Dizzy from the injury, faint.

Here is Zoro waking up, talking briefly about the injury being his fault, and never one mentioning hunger, not this page or the next 3 that follow:

I'm going to ask that you try to refrain from making things up going forward. It makes this all so pointless.

We saw what Luffy was capable of in WCI. You have to compare that with what Zoro does in Wano because Zoro wasnt participating in WCI.
Wait... Which part of Luffy are you gauging here? Luffy was still in WCI after the Katakuri fight...

Actually, someone answered this better.

That way you will get a taste of who came into the NW stronger, the guy who played with animals for 2 years or the guy who was fighting Mihawk.

If Zoro defeats King, is he stronger than Luffy who "defeated" Katakuri?

Just a bonus answer, Zoro has got power ups and even more so, trains a lot... I dont know how it makes sense that the Zoro in Wano is as strong or as capable as the Zoro in Dressrosa or whatever you want to switch to.

I expected that you will attribute Zoro's power to swinging Enma couple of days at bamboo trees aka:
Zoro's ability without Enma - 0
Zoro's ability with Enma - over 9000!
But you know me better than that, I wont let that slide. You better have something concrete when you claim power-ups and that Zoro trains all the time, because he doesnt, Enma training is first time he was shown doing any training post TS.

Manga didn't attribute antying to hunger.
You are simply using wrong translations... The same exact SFX:

When you say easy can you be more specific? Because when I say easily I dont mean Luffy can 1 shot him. I'd say around Medium Difficulty, he won't need to run away nor does he get stabbed in the abdomen. The fight wouldn't last over 11 hours for sure.
I know, I'm saying it's harder than that. Katakuri is a highly capable fighter as well, and his mochi mochi no mi being similar to gomu gomu would be a major challenge. It'd be hard to hurt Katakuri, and his Future Sight is probably still better. Unlike last time, Luffy could win as his willpower is a difference-maker, but I can still see this being pretty close.

But how do we know Katakuri hasn't gotten stronger? How would the fight have gone if Katakuri didn't stab himself as well? Gotta also consider how Katakuri was able to continue fighting despite injuring himself, but then again Luffy was fighting for hours and was in worse shape. Luffy would probably fare much better if/when his Future Sight improves.

So you think Luffy vs Katakuri would be an EXTREME DIFFICULTY fight that Luffy wins?

Luffy at this point in the manga?

Everything depends on how good his FS is now.

Kudos Nik, you are a master of circular arguments. It's always the same people who fall for it as well...

My hat off to you.

It'd be a difficult fight still for Luffy, but has also improved his CoA which means even though his physical strength is lower that Katakuri, he can greatly harm him internally as well as cause general damage in being able to predict his movements. He can now use this advanced type of CoO But it doesn't mean Katakuri hasn't learned anything since that fight; we have this preconception that only our antagonists get stronger and the villains...just keep chilling, which isn't always the case.

Luffy will get the win...this time.

Yes. What was interesting with Katakuri is that Katakuri was fighting for his family. Luffy hurting his family was really upsetting for him and the Charlotte family truly cared for eachother. And in shounen you are always stronger when your fighting for your loved ones.

It was that rare type of fight where that mutual respect for eachhother blossomed so perfectly.

And that ending where Luffy covered Katakuri's mouth with his hat his truly the most epic panel from a post fight. The respect was REAL.

I think Katakuri's stamina increased after the fight for sure. I think Katakuri runs into the same problem of not knocking Luffy down but keeping Luffy down and that's wouldn't happen so often in round 2.

Yes, I do. Can Katakuri alter his body to avoid attacks, like most logia, like make a hole in his chest where Luffy tries to punch him? If so, then this would definitely be a very difficult fight as Luffy does not have the ability to do things like that. Not to mention, Awakening. Last time, Luffy was lucky that Katakuri underestimated him and didn't want to miss his snack time or lunch time.

I think the only thing we can be sure of is that Katakuri didn't underestimate Luffy. He said so himself.
But other than that, i agree with you. Katakuri will not be a cakewalk for Luffy, even after their prior battle experiences.

Dont take offense I was just asking upfront what difficulty you think. Wasnt judging you you, just trying to get a straight answer. But Katakuro did actually state he wasnt underestimating Luffy so idk where that leaves you...

I can respect your stance for sure.

Why did he walk away then, thinking Luffy was trapped and couldn't escape?

Not taking any offense, dudette, no worries.

Kind of hard to believe he wasn't when he enclosed Luffy in mochi but walked away without confirming anything.

Truth be told, I think even Lucci pre-timeskip would be a challenge for pre-WCI Luffy, but after Future Sight and better CoA, Luffy should have an easier time winning. He wins in either scenario thoug.

Luffy vs Katakuri would still be a tough fight, but Luffy won't struggle as much as he did. Katakuri wasn't underestimating Luffy during the fight so we can say he didn't hold back. Katakuri taking an injury doesn't really matter because luffy took the same injury unfairly after getting distracted. Katakuri was surprised, pissed and disappointed that Luffy even got hit by that. Even without factoring Luffy's current growth, it shows Kata wasn't expecting to give a near-fatal wound to Luffy at that point. Considering Luffy starts the battle in perfect state with Kata, it's a 1v1 so no distractions, Luffy's FS, stamina and strength improvement as well as ACoA, this would be a mid-slightly high diff fight but Luffy would be a clear winner. I think a lot of the battle will either be based on both dodging/predicting each other (so less hits) or a lot of stamina/power tug (with both negating FS and hitting each other a lot)

I can't really agree with this though. I guess it depends on what you mean by challenge? I don't think this would even be a mid-diff battle, the levels are so vastly different that I can't even picture a serious battle between them

I'd say Lucci's defense is what makes him dangerous, but once Luffy uses Gear 4 and goes all out, then he'd win. In terms of speed, Luffy would be at an advantage because of CoO & Gear 2. What gave Lucci an edge during Enies Lobby would be gone as Luffy has learned haki as well. Lucci's tekken or finger stabs can't get past Luffy's CoA either, can it? I'm assuming Hodi's jaws were just that powerful.

Nik has become the new Moe but Zoro Edition, I like both Sanji and Zoro and my opinion, Zoro is slightly above Sanji as of right now, Moe does not agree with that, Just like how Nik won't agree that Luffy is above Zoro. Zoro is strong right now, especially now with Enma, but we have NOT seen him in a real fight, so we cannot put him on a YC level yet. Him or Sanji have not proven themselves to be YC level, yet. Maybe at the end of this arc. Stop making assumptions that they are YC level as of chapter 975. Also Nik, you have no prove that King is stronger than Katakuri. We can't gauge King's levels yet compared to the rest of the YCs.

Aslo M3J, what makes you think Pre-TS Lucci is stronger than Pre-WCI Luffy? Surely, you mean base Pre-WCI Luffy? Not G2, G3, G4? Shit I think Base Luffy at Fishmen Island is stronger than Enies Lobby Lucci.
