Kobeni is by far my favorite character in this series along with Power. I think she's a really good fighter as well when she saved Denji from the girl with the Snake Devil so easily. I just hope they're having a truce for the meantime to escape Hell. I want Lady Quanxi and her girls to be recurring characters in this series.

Too bad that Ikemen with Octopus Devil is not with them. I want to see more of him. Such a hottie to be honest.

The fact that they had to make a deal with one of those ancient devils to kill Makima makes me question this whole thing with her hunting the gun devil tbh. And from this I think we can start to assume she isn't fully human. This manga gets better and better every week.

Holy mother of God, what a chapter. 10/10!

First of all, this manga has some of the best world building ever. The build up and reveal of the existence of Primal Devils was masterfully handled and the Darkness Devil did not disappoint - that is easily the most horrific display of power displayed in Chainsaw so far. Like, Makima surviving the assassination was great, Reze's explosive getaway was awesome... but the Darkness Devil? It literally disarmed them with 0 effort and made all the Devils shit themselves just from the feeling that it was near. Primal Devils are clearly on another level and I love it.

One question this does raise is what other Primal Devils there are. Given the name it must be things that humans don't get an acquired fear of - so nothing like insects or weapons. Rather they are innate fears that humans naturally have and have had for thousands of years. IMO likely candidates for more Primal Devils are:

- Fire
- Pain/Mutilation (pain is an intrinsic fear but mutilation even more so, you can survive pain but losing chunks of flesh/limbs is far more severe)
- Drowning
- Extinction/Death (death is obviously feared, but extinction is referring to total extinction of humanity here since practically no one wants total extinction)
- Control (more the lack of it)
- Separation/Humiliation (grouping these together because separation can cause or be caused by humiliation)
- Existentialism (fear of reality not having meaning or it having a meaning you're terrified of)

Also, I have a theory as to how the Chainsaw Devil fits into Hell and why so many people want Denji dead/Chainsaw's heart - Chainsaw was a balancing force in Hell. There's two routes this can go down:

1) Chainsaw is a Devil that seeks to purge any Demon it comes across and is second only to the Primal Devils when its full potential is being used. We know that Chainsaw had quite the kill streak in Hell because of what Angel said a while back, so the Devils wanting to send Chainsaw back to Hell would make sense since it would let more Devils cross into Earth.

2) Chainsaw is a Devil that is essentially an executioner that the Primal Devils employ. This is my favourite of the two but could easily be wrong, what I think is evidence for this is:

- We know that most (if not all IIRC) of the Devils that Angels talked to said all they remember before arriving in Earth is the sound of a chainsaw
- We know that the Primal Devils have never been killed by (or maybe have not even fought) Chainsaw
- We know from what one of Quanxi's allies said that if a Devil angers or catches the hostility of a Primal Devil, they are dead

My line of thinking is that Chainsaw (at full potential) is the strongest of the none-Primal Devils and that the Primals use the Chainsaw to keep Hell as they like it. This would explain why so many people want Chainsaw dead - because the Primals want it back in Hell doing their bidding. Why the Primals can't just do it themselves is something I'm unsure of, but something tells me they aren't the types to get involved with other Devils often given the reaction they have to just sensing a Primal that's approaching them.

How the team are going to escape the shit they are in is beyond me lmfao, but they should be fine, they have Kobeni with them after all!

The plot developing with Master/Makima is looking fantastic as well. Master, who already seems OP as hell, wanting/needing a power up from a Primal Devil is some serious hype for Makima. Its not exactly surprising given the antics we've seen her do, such as the time she casually survived a shot to the head and massacred her attackers, but Makima/Kishibi were already worried about Master before she had this power up, so their fight (if they have one) should be insane. Makes me wonder what Kishibe is going to do, he clearly knows that there's some serious business going on, but Quanxi seemed to think he was in over his head. I really hope he isn't, but its not looking great.

Also imagine being poor Yoshida in this clusterfuck. The dude is a badass private Devil Hunter, managed to give Quanxi a good fight, got thrown out of a god damn window... and it ended up saving him. Makima had better be paying him well.

Like I said at the start of this, 10/10 chapter. In general Chainsaw has been far better than the other weekly mangas I read, I swear it only gets better every week.

Makima being human was iffy from the start IMO, her eyes are way too unique. The most likely case for Makima is that she's actually a corpse possessed by a Devil. So far every Devil Man has had a distinct feature - Power has her horns, Denji/Reze have their cords, Angel has his halo, Prinz has her multiple legs, etc. etc. If we follow this pattern. Makima being a corpse possessed by a Devil would make sense.

In fact I'm convinced that's the case, since it explains why Kishibe wants her dead - he knows his former student is already dead and that a Devil is using her corpse as a skin puppet.

As for her motives... very hard to speculate on right now. Killing the Gun Devil is beneficial for her regardless of her motive unless she is outright working with it in secret - killing it means she either gets rid of a competitor as a Devil (assuming she is one), advances her agenda of keeping people (assuming she is as well meaning as we currently think) or reinforces her cover (assuming she is hiding something and isn't as benevolent as she seems).

Master wanting her dead + the note we got in this chapter is VERY ominous though, so her being benevolent or working with the Gun Devil is unlikely IMO. At the very least she must be crazy powerful considering someone as already massively powerful as Master felt she needed the power of a Primal Devil in her hands to take her down. Whether or not this means Makima is bad and that Master is good is still up in the air, but its definitely looking to be possible.

I have to admit the build up to the Primal Devils reveal was well done. I didn't know who it was and I felt a little fear myself lol. The thing about this manga is I've yet to see an overhype. Everything is so matter of fact that if hype precedes a character you know he/she will live up to it. One of Quanxi's devils asking permission to kill herself really highlighted the level of fear these ancient devils instil.

This has been really impressive! One of my favourite things so far is that hype isn't often used in Chainsaw outside of characters talking about prior feats or generally saying about how x is out of y's league. The only real hyped characters so far are the Gun Devil, Makima, Master, Quanxi, Kishibi and full potential Chainsaw. Oh, and the Primals.

And so far they've all done a really good job.

Tbf this is assuming Poochita wanted to leave. Devils only enter Earth once they are killed in Hell, right? It could just be the case that a Devil finally managed to kill Chainsaw.

But yeah the point about the door in Denji's dream is a good one, especially since they sky in Hell is full of them. Wouldn't be surprised if that's how they escape actually.

How Master even met a Primal will be interesting to find out. Like, we know she is supposed to have some crazy Demons, but this is next level. I also want to know how old she is, because I get the feeling she is nowhere near as young as she looks.

As for Kishibi... I'm really hoping he knows what's he's doing. That said, Quanxi seems to think he's out of his league and Master going out of her way to get power from a Primal really doesn't inspire confidence. Then again, we have no idea about the sort of contracts he holds and despite being a heavy drinker + smoker + out of his prime, he was doing relatively well against Quanxi. If the two do end up fighting I think he will push her to the absolute limit. He's clearly well informed about her given he knows she can listen into conversations even while being hundreds of miles away and he should know at least some of her in combat skill set given that he trained her. The real issue I could see coming up are her more... esoteric Devils. She clearly has some crazy ones since she's survived stuff like the train assassination attempt...

Denji vs Kishibe would be an interesting match but I'm not sure if Kishibe would be stupid enough to let that scenario happen. If he's going to try and tackle Makima he probably won't make it an out-and-out open death match, rather he'll try and stage an assassination. The Makima/Kishibe dynamic has some real potential, it could even become a mini-Civil War arc. At the very least it should split the Bureau, Kishibe clearly wants allies so it will be interesting to see who he tries to recruit.

Hard to say really because the manga gets super weird at times lmao

I would say that Denji's main motivations are:

1) To get with Makima (which means he has to hunt Devils and get involved in weird shit)
2) Have a semi-decent life (have a house, have regular meals, etc.)

It sounds stupidly simplistic but Denji has some really good development and though I was scared he would be a stereotypical shounen MC, he really isn't. He has a practically non-existent moral compass and that makes for some funny moments but also some interesting ones.

As it stands the other characters are so great that they make up for it even if you don't like Denji, so keep going if you can dude!

They also usually have a grand goal (Naruto becoming Hokage, Natsu finding Igneel, etc.). Denji is very different in that sense since, like you say, he doesn't have a fantastically moral or noble reason to fight. All he wants is a basic normal life where he doesn't get treated badly and can be with a girl that he likes.

Perhaps I should have been more specific and said BoS Denji isn't your typical shonen protag, since as you said Denji does seem like he's changing even if it is a slow process. And that character development is more than welcome! Its kinda refreshing to see such a tragic and irregular character grow into a more well-rounded and adjusted person.

I agree. I don’t think he’s going to end up “well adjusted” exactly (Have you read ‘Fire Punch’? Same mangaka, and in that he basically killed off everyone other than the main character every 10 chapters or so...exaggerating a little...but not by a lot) but ...more complete? I mean, like you said his only real shown motivations are living a life where he doesn’t have to starve every day and of course, Makima :-) He does seem to be growing attached to his team though...Aki and Power anyway... Funniest scene in the whole manga was when he kicked Aki in the balls over and over! Lol!

The clear and explicit statement about Makima having ulterior goals at play is no news to us, but it was interesting that Santa is included with Makima. I had believed Santa would just be a villain of a sadistic nature who is strong. But now it seems possible that she is like Makima - her motives will reveal more truth about Denji/Chainsaw.

Quanxii's backstory (being the original Devil Hunter) will probably link up with Makima's mystery somehow, given Kishibe is plotting and perhaps Quanxii joins him. I'm not sure what Quanxii's Devil is, one of her girls pulled a dagger out of her head to revive her (like Chainsaws' cord), so maybe she's the Dagger Woman. Her hybrid form get's no complaints, she's hot.

Santa with the power of the darkness Devil is just the right amounts of creepy and powerful. But just when I expected this to be an exclusive Santa/Denji battle, here comes Quanxii with the plot twist lol. Sucks that her women died though. Not sure if her OG status will be enough to beat Santa in this form, especially with her being able to heal in the dark, but she seems pretty confident so we'll see. Should be a great battle.

The little tidbit about Makima using animals to spy on people was interesting too. After she pulled that pied piper thing earlier I knew she was associated with them. Didn't she use the rats to do some kind of teleporting to Reze's location? So that's a contract with some type of animal devil I'm guessing.

Yes it was very much implied she had involvement with mice/rats, so we got a good passage with confirmation about that, and how it can be mitigated.
