So aki was dead before Gun devil took over his body or at least it is implied, but yeah he still has his memories and he can remember places and people, seemingly, so , unless when hes possessed, hes kind of revived ? (Makima too seems to have an ability linked with reviving, wasnt it mentioned last chap she died 29 times )question, assuming, he died was he dead before the fight (i mean when makima got all of them chained, were they only all dead/corpses ?) or was he killed by GDevil ?

I thought he died when the gun devil arrived, around the same time Makima "died" as well, since he was listed in the gun devils victim list.

I am happy that Makima vs Gun Devil seems to have ended in some sort of stalemate. I would've been disappointed had Makima won against what was introduced first as the big boss. So this is good

I think it's a good development that Aki became a fiend. I would be interested to see how Denji will tackle this. We all know Denji is starting to develop friendship feelings, so I would like to see whether he will be able to mercilessly kill Aki or not. And I think he will once he opens the door inside his dream world.

The Chainsaw Devil was introduced as a fearsome devil, yet little is known about his background. That door is certainly hiding things.

Is it possible that the story could go back to Hell? I mean apart from makima, the darkness devil owned everyone in like 3 seconds so whoever is going back will be weary but I just have this head cannon that the door that poticha is always telling denji not to open is a door to hell and denji will open it for whatever reason (maybe to ressurect someone)

Just some quick points, take it with a grain of salt, though

So basically snow ball game is a kind of mirror of Aki now fighting power/denji, something that happens in aki's mind, as if he were playing a game. Hes basically killing everyone , could be children and their mother. Denji s trying to make him get a grip of himself. Theres something about Aki never been loved by his parents and thats hes having a lot of fun, now. Denji is badly injured in his stomach, in parallel with the scene, we see aki's hitting him with a snowball in the stomach. So basically Aki is killing people without intending to, seemingly.

PSA: Yours truly has officially caught up. 10 months ahead of schedule.

Definitely met the hype, in reading this, you'd think it's illegal to like a character with how quickly and easily they get disposed of. Reze, Quanxi, Beam, Aki?? (right when I was really liking him) Himeno, Plague mask bro, and let’s say ~73 public safety dudes taken from us.

Besides the main two, I'm left with Kishibe. While Power and Kobeni are still alive And woah Makima! In hindsight, lmfao at that first assassination attempt. Her threat level went from elite public safety to >= country level, and what terrifies me is the unknown depth of her power. Also, after the movie theater date, there's been a noticeable change in the mood her presence depicts. Before, I'd say panels of her were calming, and presented hope for our protagonist. I looked forward to her interactions with Denji. After the date, the mood has been somber and you could feel that controlling aura.

As for the Gun Devil, it certainly has taken an interesting turn with him possessing Aki. But, I’d be lying if I wasn’t disappointed in him being Makima’d off-panel, especially after that intro. Also, since he’s possessed Aki, the other 80 percent of him controlled by other nations are basically useless now, right?

I believe this was the case with Plague Mask Bro (Rip), serving as a precursor. He retained a large portion of the brain of the human he possessed, thus remembering many details of the human's life. It also affected his personality, as he was rather kind for someone known as the Violence fiend. So, I'm guessing the same/something similar happened with the Gun Devil possessing Aki. A decent part of the brain was retained, hence the memories and the scene in his subconscious.

It could also be a side-effect of Makima´s domination/subjugation

In a sense, since she is a devil, one of the fears people have thanks to chirstianity is that when they die they will be dominated by the devil.
So maybe her powers allows for a person soul/counsioness or whatever to linger even after their body is killed, and, maybe, even allow for ressurection.
For how sad/scary it is to not even be able to decide/have your own death withouth Makima/Domination saying you can die?

On that sense, considering that

A) Makima is being setup as the big bad or at the very least the final fight (as she seems stronger than the Gun Devil, not in a destructive sense ofc)
B) We saw some chain-like things binding her "puppets" before the fight
C) Chainsaws being pretty much the most powerfull "cutting" object we humans have in our subconcious,*

I´d say Pochita/Denji true identity is the Devil of Rebellion.

Arguably, a ever present fear in our lifes (subordinates, children, students, opressed people), but, at the same time, a symbol of hope, an antithesis in and of itself.

Which would explain why the Chainsaw Devil hunts other devils,
Why Denji has to sacrifice a lot of blood in order to get his powers going, as a true rebellion is never a free, easy thing, it has to be earned.
Why Makima is interessed in subbding him, either she actually has the hots for her total oposite, or by finally bending it to her will, achieving unprecedent levels of power.
Why blood (the very fuel of a violent rebellion) keeps it going indefinitally, since as long as the people want a rebellion can keep going (Even if it does end up losing it´s sense, just like Denji loses himself in combat)

And why many devils seem to fear it, even if by it´s power level it shouldn´t be able to stand up to some of the foes we have seen until now.
Since a Rebellion, by its very definition, its about the overtrowing of a stronger power by a (percivied as) weaker power. Hence, kinda of a conceptual ability of always having the chance to turn battles around.

Oh and as to why Pochita is so afraid of Denji going past that door? Well, rebelions are never a beautifull thing, aren´t they? Just go and study any in our real life story.

So, thanks to the Shonen Jump break of this week I caught up with this series. I have...mixed feelings about it.

I like that it is not a straight-forward battle shonen, but it's more seinen in some aspects. Not only the gore, but all the symbolism, the general cynism, the fact that it tries to touch deep and unusual themes such as emotional detachment and what measures are you willing to take to achieve your goal, as petty as it might be. I like that in 78 chapters there is much more character growth that many other series in the hundreds can even dream. I like that the protagonist has a different feeling than the average shonen protagonist and that the feeling of danger and fear are real and present even in the most peaceful chapters, that are all obviously the calm before the storm. These are all things that you can't find anywhere, and Chainsaw man is unique in that sense in the current Jump roster.

I have a big problem with this manga though...it's how easily the characters are killed off. It's not just the fact that they die all the time - in A song of Ice and Fire characters die all the time but you can still feel the gut punch. My problem is more that they die casually and sometimes just as an afterthought. A couple of examples from the Assassins arc:
- the agents at the beginning gunned down inside the car from the american assassins. Given that two of them were known characters and they just started to build some dialog with them, at first I thought "no way they can go down so easily, they probably will return to haunt the assassins again!"...well, no, they were just dead via regular gunshots, no paranormality needed.
- Cosmo shows her power against the puppet master (the main villain of the arc) and it is probably one of the strongest and weirdest power in the history of manga. She is then randomly beheaded by Makima IN THAT VERY SAME CHAPTER. So long for a character that started to be interesting 5 pages earlier.

Also during the whole fight with the Darkness Devil i couldn't stop thinking "Come on, it's obvious that it is way stronger than you all! Can you please stop attacking it and plan a retreat? If you go after him one by one it will obviously kill all of you one by one! And why did you all have your arms attached one panel ago and now you all don't and it is not a huge problem?"
It all happens too fast, too casually, and doesn't let you take time to consider what just happened. I can't have the luxury to care or even take interest in the actions of a character, because by the time I turn the page he/she may very well be killed off. That's why I like the manga and how it dares to do something unheard of in Shonen Jump, but it can't become one of my all-time favorites. I probably approach Chainsaw man thinking too much like a standard Shonen reader, but i claim my right to think like a standard Shonen reader and to care about my characters and let them grow up on me. I feel like this manga deprives me of that right.
