I loved the first two chapters of the new gag. Up there with Magu-chan for me, so good.
I think that when a comedy has 10 or 11 pages, it works better than 19 or 22 pages.
That way you don't have to turn it into something else.

But then just think that Jojo's third, fourth and fifth series on Jump lasted 16, 18 and 17 volumes respectively ....

Looks like #41 will be out next Sunday as normal and #42 is scheduled for the following Friday based in the MHA chapter countdown.

The Great
1. Burn the Witch - I feel like I'm reading my favourite manga again. Loving everything about this. Bruno Bangnyfe summoning a dragon for combat? That's so cool as shit. I love all the world building Kubo has put into this, I wanna see so much more from its characters now. Next week's gonna be fab but fingers crossed this turns into something more.
2. Chainsaw Man - Beam deserves better :'( But seriously what a hype chapter.
3. My Hero Academia - You can really feel how serious this war is getting now. Another great chapter.
4. One Piece - It's felt like forever since we saw a Straw Hat chapter where multiple members got to fight and show off their skills (Robin included!!!). This is what Wano has been sorely missing. Fantastic final spread (but not gonna lie I did spend a few seconds looking for Carrot).
5. Black Clover - I'm a big fan of this set-up. The past three chapters of Black Clover have been much better than the action slog from the months before.

The Good
6. Jujutsu Kaisen - JJK saw pulling a CSM, I see. Not as impactful after reading this week's Chainsaw Man first but still shocking stuff for the series nonetheless.
7. Mashle - Good gags, good action. Liked the reveal at the end. Just good stuff all around for Mashle right now.
8. Phantom Seer - Not a bad chapter by any means, but definitely feels like a standard second chapter after a very impressive opener. The art is still the highlight. I'm warming to the dynamic of the main duo. Rooting for this to pick up.
9. High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - What stupid fun. It'll be hard for this to top the more established series especially if the chapters are going to be half-length each week but if these first two are anything to go off of then I'm going to enjoy this; very well panelled with nice delivery of the gags. I can imagine there will be plenty of cringe material ahead.
10. We Never Learn - Asumi is the best so I'm enjoying all of this. I've been hoping this route would be faster paced than the others and seems like it will be.
11. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - In just two weeks this has gone from my least to most favourite of the last batch. Big fan of the action, and the humour - while not actively funny - wasn't distracting this time. Hopefully Tamura gets to show off in next chapter's colour page

The Decent
12. Me & Roboco - I was wondering where the "Monster" gag was going and... it got me. Another funny chapter.
13. Dr. STONE - Not the most substantial chapter but the scenes in the air were neat.
14. Undead Unluck - I'm not a fan of this series and the art still feels crude, but this was touching chapter - way more than I thought it would have been. Chikara is probably my favourite character now after his backstory and those emotional scenes with his classmate. Keen to see where that final page takes us now.
15. Agravity Boys - What a cute chapter! I'm glad it ended the way to did as well. Nothing really funny this week but still endearing.
16. Moriking - The next candidate hasn't appeared yet? I'll take it since this was a nice enough chapter. "That'll do, bug" was genuinely sweet.

The Rest
17. Mission: Yozakura Family - Yeah, I don't like how that resolved. The dad explaining that plan retroactively felt poorly written.
18. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - I've been really disappointed with Magu-chan recently. I know it gets love here but the art still feels amateurish and doesn't capture the charm/humour I know it's aiming for. This and Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin have done a complete 180 for me in recent weeks; this is now feeling more aimless of the two.
19. Ayakashi Triangle - Bath time.

It seems they have changed names in Mashle so the official translation matches the official romanization that was later revealed. Mash's surname was Vandead initially, now Burnedead as officially revealed. Daut is now Dot.

I don't see SxF beating OP in volume sales, even with OP's decline. I can see SxF being like AssClass where it doesn't receive that big of a boost from its anime.

Toei has been doing well recently. The move to a bigger studio has been paying dividends for them.

I guess Nakama's editor during most of Isobe was Ikeda (currently in charge of Yozakura)? His editor for this series is Yoritomi (currently in charge of MHA), and this is his first launch in WSJ.

Good to get a timeline from Kubo. Guess we'll see when that volume releases.

Damn, Mash Vandead sounds so much better than Burnedead. But if that's his actual name, I have no choice but to get used to it. (Still prefer Vandead though.)

High School Familiy was interesting. The comedy isn't my cup of tea but I think the slice of life part of the premise has potential. Let's see whether the manga makes use of it or not.

Second chapter of Phantom Seer was more enjoyable than the first one imo. Still generic but a fun read. And for some reason the comedy parts worked better for me this chapter.

Okay week for Jump this week.

Random Thoughts:

Kokosei Kazoku: I'm really not feeling this manga. I'd rank it easily miles below every other gag manga I've read based on the first 2 chapters.
My Hero Academia: Really scared that Hori is throwing out all the powerscaling with this arc at this point.
Phantom Seer: Pretty solid chapter 2, if generic. I'm willing to give this series a volume or so to find its feet before calling whether it'll stick.
Chainsaw Man: Pain.
Black Clover: Gotta say, Tabata has impressed me these last 3 weeks. BC has clawed its way back from the "meh" tier towards good again with this arc, hope it keeps up.
Jujutsu Kaisen: God damn do I love JJK.
Yozakura: Pretty good chapter, worried that it's gonna go back to episodic comedy again with next week.

Everything else was varying levels of quality.

Side note: BC isn't ending any time soon, idk why everyone thinks its unsafe with literally 11 series younger than 1 year in the magazine; and I'd bet neither is Chainsaw Man. CSM would've had a final arc announcement by now if this was the end. Fujimoto is just gonna pull some weird shit.

Just wanted to clarify something with this week’s CSM chapter, since the translator left Beam's name unaltered.

Beam = Bim = Cherubim

The translator left out a very big plot development. But anyway, because of that plot development, I’m certain the series still has a ways to go before concluding.

Can we start putting small descriptions over things we post from other sites ? Just a suggestion since sometimes it is not clear what exactly it is and some people may not want to see it. It will also make it easier to search for information from previous posts.

Also, it bodes well for the production if they actually have 6 episodes complete before the air date. It is possible that they will blow through the lead they have but it is better than nothing

After a loooooooooooong time, we are back to "I wonder what will get the cover of the issue after next one". We'll get the answer this Wednesday, but what series do you think is getting issue 42 cover?

My bet is on Dr.Stone. It hasn't had a cover in a long time and they could also sell it as "cover because anime season 2" plus popularity poll results. Jujutsu Kaisen is getting issue 43 or 44 (saying 44 because it releases on Monday and anime airs on Friday of that week).

Sooooo, this is my prediction:
42. Dr.Stone
43. ??? (saying Chainsawman because it hasn't had a cover this year, but maybe it could go for Mashle/UU, or for One Piece. I don't see MHA or BC getting a cover for the moment).
44. Jujutsu Kaisen

The anime is too far away for them to use it as a reason for a cover. They could use the popularity poll instead (though doing it for Dr. Stone and not for Black Clover would be weird lol). It could actually be One Piece in one of those issues since the last time it got a cover was on issue #33-34. My Hero Academia will probably receive a cover soon for the climax of the arc but it's hard to tell when. Black Clover already got a CP for its popularity poll so indeed they don't have a reason to give the series a cover for the rest of the year. I find it hard for them to give either Mashle or Chainsaw Man a cover right now, but who knows.

I wonder if WNL will get another cover before it ends, the series' popularity seems to have mostly run its course and it doesn't really need more promotion when it's ending so soon, but there's so few stuff to give cover pages that I can see it happening. Maybe when the teacher arc starts.

CSM dropping another bomb this week, can’t really tell how things will turn out. Mashle now moving on to the remaining fight, I appreciate how we managed to get some gags thrown in between, tho I do hope once this arc is done we get some breather chapters.

UU had a nice wrapping chapter to its arc, tho if I were to nitpick at something will be that now the author has pulled the same backstory for another character for a third time, a bit repetitive for me. Cop and Dolphin had a better chapter than I expected, it actually had me rolling, glad that the sudden change was worth it, plus we haven’t forgotten about the previous storyline.

Magu-chan was also hilarious this week, Yozakura ended on a high note this arc, tho I feel it could of gone a bit longer. Phantom Seer had a decent second chapter, it did felt like more of the same in comparison with last week’s chapter, it all comes to wait for more chapters to come. High school Family was fun, tho not my cup of me, will still follow it for now to see how it goes.

Looking forward to new series next week

High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku: ... I'm honestly surprised they didn't produce an acceptance letter for the cat.

I'm kinda meh on it so far. It doesn't really make me laugh, but it's not actively annoying either. We'll see where it goes.

MHA: And then Deku went SuperSaiyan. *sigh* Seriously? This was one of the series that actually made an effort to keep the power-ups believable.

OP: This is going to take another year, isn't it? I should probably just stop following it again and binch-read it once the arc is over. Much more enjoyable that way.

Phantom Seer: Well, that explains the title, I guess. Though I still don't really get why they opted to make the MC a doormat.

Dr Stone: That arial view was so freaking cool.

Black Clover: Woohoo, mystery! And exposition. And video game levels. But mostly a new arc.

Me & Robocco: Ok, some of the subversions are funny. But these running jokes are nearing their expiration date already, so it's gonna be pretty hard to keep it up. (Also, 'weird creature does weird things while the other characters make shocked faces in the corner' is really becoming a trend, isn't it?)

UU is also starting a new arc. Nice.

Ayakashi Triangle: He suffered that curse because of you, you know? Stop nagging and just let him look already, it's nothing he hasn't seen in the mirror.

Burn the Witch is finally showing some heart. Though really, this doesn't feel like a short story at all.

Mashle's fights are starting to bore me. It doesn't help that I didn't like any of the characters in this chapter.

Cop & Dolphin: I appreciated the joke in the beginning, but Arlong #2 feels pretty generic. And how did the cheerleading squad even get there?

Magu-chan: The first moderately intelligent character in the series. That's an improvement, I guess.

WNL: It's all very cute, but I really wish the series would just end already.

AB: I like Geralt's philosophy. It's why I only keep cats. (Btw, didn't this series have a 'save the world' plot somewhere..?)

Yozakura: I've really grown to appreciate this one. It has a plot (sort of) and the brother is actually undergoing character development, but without sacrificing the comedic aspects in the proces. I hope it stays around for a bit longer.

Moriking: This one is dead, isn't it? I'm not going to miss it much.

Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku: Massive ending flags on this one.

SxF: It's nice, but it's rare to see a mission span three or four chapters. I rather prefer the self-contained adventures.

Taking up the discussion of how much the end of certain manga is missing, I would like to remind you that 10-20 volumes at the end are more than enough to narrate or finish a story, if the author takes the right time. Just think of the recent case of Kimetsu, or even Dragon Ball.

Let's realize that in 10 volumes we went from Goku fighting Tenshinan to Goku fighting Vegeta.

So I would say that the current state is not absurd to think that 2-3 years is a short time to finish some of the top manga in the magazine.
Isn't Dragon Ball kind of notorious for not having a proper ending?

And yeah, 2-3 years is plenty to wrap up a series, if the author wants it. But what makes you think the writers of MHA/BC/Dr Stone would want to stop?

I almost screamed when i saw the dog cat being also a high school, this is going to be really funny :hee

Edit: lmao it's a cat, i just gave a quick read in everything at the moment, i thought it was a dog xD

That's simply not true. The first two chapters had some extremely problematic material that was debated here for weeks and weeks. Halloween even had to ban discussion of the first three chapters temporarily because of all the drama.
UxU has become one of my favorite weekly reads rn, however it doesn't change history.
I remember perfectly well how it was the release day, i was here talking, even linked Manga Plus comment that were overwhelming positive and not a single one about "grope" and stuff, also just checked now the discussion on Reddit, over 100 comments and basically not a single "it's problematic, sexual harassment!" comment there, vastly positive, first chapter also was very well received in our poll, and while of course it wasn't "ohh such a masterpercie, best new series ever!" the overall reaction here was mostly saying that it was a good first chapter, some got surprised because didn't expected to like that much, some instantly got hooked and ofc some didn't liked, so there's no "change history" here like you and other said, i know perfectly well that there was a lot of (exaggerated) discussions in this thread, mostly from the exact same little group of users, including you, talking and talking about the same detail and this and that, but the thing is, for something to be labeled as "problematic" you need more than 4/5 people in a thread of a forum always complaining, and UU was never polemic outside this same little group here, and when i say this i'm not trying to say this group opinion doesn't matter, but that it doesn't represent the overall reception online. The point is, the 1st chapter wasnt "badly received" here as if the majority was trashing on it, and even majority of the (exaggerated) discussions weren't about the chapter being good or not, but that old "grope" detail thing.

Yeah, I think gag manga flows better when the chapters are more on the shorter end. Most of my favorites have about 20 pages but being short makes them flow better.

I doubt. Probably just color pages like it's happening this year.

HSF: I liked it, seems promising to me with the whole concept. I wonder how many teachers gonna hit on the mom and dad, lol.

MHA: .... Oh...come...the....****...on!!! Seriously what a cope-out, bah! Ochako's role got even more diminished now. Well, this is how all future fights will go now, huh? Deku vs X, oh noes, Deku is in a tight spot! How will he ever win? Deku uses new found power 4-7 - BAAM - insta win! Those goddamn 7 quirk bs makes me so mad.

OP: Momma outta the house, yo!^^

PS: If you could just summon parts of it why not do so in the first chapter so that we got less of the super shadow demon so that we have to imagine more ourselves? The part with the suppressed shadow was pretty cool.

Dr.Stone: Pretty cool dog-fight! Liked the moves and explanation for each of them. Next week will probably be the conclusion.

CSM: Uhhm... this not gonna end this year, right? oO

BC: Don't read but nice CP, very homey.

M&R: Eh.... wasn't that funny to me.

UU: Very nice chapter, was more sad about the memory wipe (very convenient but that's Nico for you) than the background story but I guess without that any normal human being would have said NOPE to that job proposal. Also tiny time skip, could have been used to slow down the speed of this series but it seems Tozuka wants to go for the meaty parts which are the Apocalypse Quests and I cannot deny - those are pretty cool.

AT: Convenient demon censorship is convenient. Also Suzu got no shame, NO SHAME!!!

JjK: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~ ;A;

BtW: Meh.

Mashle:
Dot is best character! Fight me Mash-chads and Lucas-bros!

HBC&D: I like the idea of Ocean Gang Gangsters, hope for many fun Merman powers versus Onizuka I mean Samejima can use his full power on.^^

WNL: It was cute. I like Shima, she got an adorable design. Route 6 please!

AB: OHMIGOSH! THIS BABY IS SO FREAKING ADORABLE!!!!! I love the robo-legs, so cool! I wanna hug this baby and play with it forever! <3 <3 <3

M:YF: Well, that was quick.

Moriking: Poor Gramps...

SxF: Leave it to SpyxFamily to make a sport manga about tennis more interesting than actual tennis sport mangas! I love all the shown gadgets and tricks in this chapter! Same with Nightfall's part and her "This is the Twilight..." stuff, that was very cute and heartfelt (and a bit creepy^^). <3

@Shinuki no Reborn Where is the poll we can vote on what we think about the new system? I like the freely awarded points but 35 points per person is just too much, bro! Just cut it around to half and it would still be plenty with 5 points max per series aka15 freely awarded and 5 1er points contributed per poll. Right now we can hand over 11 points at any series! That is even more than with the previous 9+1 system!!! We don't need to go that extreme on votes for a single series per person.
