......I would have been absolutely fine if AFO succeeded in converting Bakugou to his side. You know that the vile man who regularly preys on people’s weaknesses would have absolutely succeeded doing so if it wasn’t for All Might’s fortunate timing. All he needed was for All Might to be late by a few minutes, and Bakugou would’ve turned against him.--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

I’d rather have had that route than the clunky execution of Bakugou’s “redemption”, and you can tell Bakugou he’s placing a lot of importance on Bakugou’s popularity.Really what Boku no Hero needs is a villain who can serve as a counterpoint to the heroic worldview. To let real selfless heroism shine. Like an anarchist who believes people should be able to use their quirks without being bound by rules. Or a megalomaniac who wants to use his power to achieve world domination. Or a villain that's pretending to be a hero for his own benefit. And Shiragaki just isn't that. He's like a kid throwing a tantrum. Now matter how powerful he becomes, to me, that's just not very interesting and I'm not really sure how you fix that.

AFO already knew by that point that OFA had already been passed on to Deku (just a hunch, but ultimately proven correct), the person Bakugou hated above all else. It doesn’t take a genius to imagine how he would break Bakugou. Feeding into his power-hungry ego would’ve done the job. Making him an intense rival to Tomura would also have done wonders to both of them, although I imagine Bakugou would’ve come out on top.
It would’ve also served a nice contrast to Enji’s later development too. The more Bakugou sinks deeper, the higher Enji rises.
But most of all, their enmity would’ve been extremely personal with each other to make it very compelling all the while being presented as the counterpoint to the selfless heroic worldview of Deku and his allies.
I’d like to give a shoutout to @Jammin who explains this better than I could:

It mentions the possibility of a 5th Todoroki child...?
An exhaustive timeline of Toshinori’s life. All speculative, of course but most likely accurate.
