This comparison seems extremely far-fetched and disingenuous.
Not really, i said that before the series were oficially released:

Being cautious but is good to see Yozakura #6 being alongside Jujutsu Kaisen #14 the only January series out of stock on Amazon less than 2 days before release, hoping that is a actual good sign and not a site's problem :^_^
Both were the only ones having stock problems on Amazon, and now both are the ones showing unusual drops on Shoseki, the first one clearly having low stock problems, and Yozakura that already have a full reprint announced for the next two weeks, isn't really anything deep, just a fun comparison

if editorial were big fans they'd be giving it more promotion with a cover or advertisements in shibuya
Mashle and UU which are younger and sell way more have only received one cover thus far. Yoza will get a cover when it's proven that it deserves it. It's getting plenty of CPs and decent placements in ToC.

The new Vol is a decent start but it needs to show far better growth than what it's showing right now.

UU and especially Mashle have great backlogs often with Mashle backlogs being extremely consistent.

I think Yozakura will get a cover when it hits its 2nd anniversary (assuming it's still doing well at that point) but not before.

I feel like it's now successful enough after the recent growth that we can consider it to be safe for the long term, but it's still not a big enough series to get a cover without a special reason like an anniversary.

Jujutsu is 10 million away from surpassing HeroAca, and its circulation number has increased by 5 million in the past month.
It seems likely for Jujutsu to surpass HeroAca this year and become the 2nd biggest series currently running in Jump (HxH aside).

Circulation per volume current numbers:

My Hero Academia - 30 million in 29 volumes: 1.03 copies per volume
Jujutsu Kaisen - 20 million in 15 volumes: 1.33 copies per volume
Black Clover - 11 million in 27 volumes: 0.40 copies per volume
Dr.Stone - 8.4 million in 19 volumes: 0.44 copies per volume

Other ratios: One Piece 4.79, Kimetsu 5.21, Haikyuu 1.11, Neverland 1.3 (including ww), Chainsawman 0.64

Jujutsu Kaisen is already having bigger ratios than Haikyuu and Neverland. My Hero Academia rato has been a stable +1 since like 2017. Black Clovers has had its 0.40 low ratio since like 2017 too.

I can see JJK reaching a ratio with a value of 2 soon. However I don't picture it reaching a value over 4 (or over 3).

Huh. If you looked at the 20M circulation number solely, you would think JJK already outpaced MHA by a wider margin, but it’s actually closer than I thought?

If I remember well, SpyxFamily has 8 million copies with 6 volumes. Is a ratio of 1.33, the same ratio Jujutsu Kaisen manga has right now.

JJK is outpacing MHA's anime S1 and S2 boost by a huge margin.
It is. But with a 0.30 difference, it doesn’t look as wide as I previously thought. Unless my sense of numbers are totally off, which has always been a thing for me.

MHA only reached where it currently is with 3 seasons of boost.
JJK is currently on track to out pace MHA's 3 seasons boost with just half a season of boost.

Most importantly, all JJK volumes that were in the top 50 (2-ish weeks ago) are no longer in the top 500 because of huge stock issues. That margin between MHA and JJK is only going to grow wider from next week onwards with it gets restocked. The circulation number would've been higher had JJK had ample stock during the New Years break and the week after.

Never thought MHA would get surpassed by KnY and JJK back when they were all in Jump and by such a huge margin too.
Just goes to show you how much prudent planning can go a long way.

And a HEFTY dose of luck for the former (doesn’t really take away anything from its success, though).

I partially believe that JJK May be benefitting a bit from Demon Slayer, given they’re very similar in overall tone, from the same magazine, and the JJK anime starting the same year that Demon Slayer ended, and right around when the final volume dropped.
I’d imagine a lot of Demon Slayer fans are probably looking for something similar from Jump(this isn’t me saying that JJK will end up having a similar sales boost overall)

Also, it seems like dark fantasy is definitely the huge trend right now, which MHA doesn’t Into like both Demon Slayer and JJK.

Either way though, MHA is still EXTREMELY successful. I hope this doesn’t cause a trend where the anime community clowns the series because 2 younger series surpassed it in sales. The anime/manga community tends to have a habit of doing that

Yeah. That’s probably the most probable explanation for JJK’s boost.

Make no mistake though, MHA’s anime IS SUCCESSFUL. It’s just that the anime was poorly planned at the beginning because the production committee rushed to get it out instead of waiting for more material and a better timeslot. I think that hurt its ceiling potential in the long run. Instead of ending the first at a cliffhanger that would push more people to buy it, and not yet adapting the first arc (not the literal first arc, mind you) that made the manga popular, it ended with....that.

Whether the production committee (specifically Shueisha) set the bar for the series that it fell slightly short of, we won’t know. But IMO, I think that’s how they see it. A successful and acclaimed series that just fell slightly short of expectations.

It had everything going for it, and it somehow fell short of its potential. I could give you a list of things that led up to the anime’s release, would you blame viewers for going “that’s it?” after a lackluster opening season?

The first season being poorly planned is a fact they readily admitted. It’s not that hard to figure it hurt the anime and the entire franchise in some way. I actually got the impression that Nagasaki regretted that they couldn’t prudently plan the first season, leading him to believe the current situation going on.
