They can't do that when the Supreme Court rules that gerrymandering can't be argued in federal court. The GOP keeps a stranglehold in many rural places because of things like this and their efforts towards voter suppression.
But they can stop it if they control state courts and state senates, right? That is hard to do against gerrymandering and voter suppression, but i think it can be done in at least some of the states that are red right now.

Wow, Mc Connell supporting Impeachment is QUITE the news. That is getting really serious for Trump.
If McConnel AND Pelosi want it, he is toast. I dont doubt for a second that Mitch can make enough senators vote for it if he wants to.

Mitch likely supports it to either save face so close to the inauguration or because the party's at risk of losing donors.

Wonder why that is? Obviously no one is stupid enough to think he's had a change of heart. It's because the big GOP donors are getting cold feet.
I think its a line he recognizes that once crossed changes politics forever. For once, its good to see him do this...
I will reword, then: fuck pacifying Trump supporters. Most of them who have committed some sort of crime should be punished, preferably being thrown in jail. USA is better off without these people who encouraged division and bigotry, especially because it absolved them of any blame in their situation or made them wealthier or made them think they'd be wealthier.

I've argued with enough Trump supporters that I'd actually would rather throw the bigoted/hateful ones out of the country.
You are right, anyone who still supports him recognize one-sided crime, are bigoted and hateful. Trump has had 30 strikes, not 3 and anyone who still supports him must stop kidding that its about policies and accept its just racist shit...

Funny enough, Trump surely doesn't even care about white supremacy. He surely even thinks of his supporters as idiots who can be manipulated.

Now regarding the Twitter ban, i had an argument with someone who pointed out the hyprocracy stating how other world leader's hateful tweets weren't flagged or deleted. While Twitter and Facebook's reaction to Trump was delayed and they did milk the cow as much as they could, the ban has kinda forced them to enforce equally on other world leaders and those tweets are proactively getting flagged as well. So in fairness to them, they are equalizing the playing field. If anything, they should be criticized for not banning him sooner.

Pretty big motivation. Trump has thrown Mitch under the bus quite a bit. Not to mention if Trump CAN run in 2024, he will, probably as a third party. He'd be the "most successful" third party candidate in the past couple of hundred years, pulling all of his votes from Republicans.

Apparently removing the guy isn't exactly overwhelmingly popular... I figured more independents would be into this.

I can sort of see why. There’s not really a point when we’re only a week away from inauguration. Maybe they don’t realize that impeaching him now would be better in the long run as it would prevent him from taking office ever again.

I think he kind of does care about white supremacy, he at least doesn't see Black people as people to trust or as profitable. Didn't he try to lock out Black people from renting his properties decades ago? But yeah, he's been allowed to get away with way too much, and it doesn't help that liberals let it happen as well.

Agreed. Even whackjobs like that Boebert congresswoman is getting punished, and that's good. It's not just the leftists defending themselves that are getting suspended, but also the shitty right wing politicians as well.

And reaping the benefits that former presidents get.

My point was he thinks of these people as beneath him and manipulative, rather than that these guys are superior. But i am not trying to say he is neutral, he is surely biased towards them and against others, so he is still a racist. And i guess thats what the supporters care about. They are just happy with other races being treated worse

You can be against the cancel culture and yet support Twitter for banning Trump. Lets not distract from the fact that his tweets were a platform used to incite violence and terrorize. Orkut, an extinct social platform was banned in some countries cos private groups allowed people to plot and carry out terrorist attacks and they had to provide, and this happened in mid 2000s. So this issue was known well.
Twitter and Facebook had no issues with Trump since it generated him good revenue and now that his relevance is getting away, they used took action against him now. I can agree that they are guilty of making money of it, and be critical that they should've acted way in advance. but they are doing it now, and doing it consistently enough across all the globe and hence being fair, albeit late.

I can see why republican lawmakers would be afraid to vote against trump.
So far, 3 of the republicans in the house did vote for impeachment tho. Only 4, that is (but last time, it were 0). Lets see where the number ends up

Yep, and being blamed as well for the white Americans' woes even when that's not true.

Cancel culture is not real though, it never was. Twitter suspending accounts isn't cancel culture, it's them doing what they should have been doing to the divisive bigots years ago. Both platforms also likely feared losing the right by banning Trump, so they likely thought it was worth keeping him on, especially since the founders weren't affected by his policies negatively, being white males.

I can see why republican lawmakers would be afraid to vote against trump.

then they should resign if they fear doing their duties.

Ten. That is not a lot, considering everything, but that is more than were expected. That is a good sign for the Senate vote.
Mind you, these ten guys knew that Trump would be impeached if all democrats vote for it. Their vote for it was purely symbolic and will probably cost them, at least on the short term.
If they do it, then i'd assume the people in the senate would be even more compelled to do it when he actually is not punished if they dont.

of course it is real and its critics are right, but yes sticking to the point its not the same and hence i made the distinction.

At the end of the day, its a business and they'll do as they please.

Sources say he's been impeached though...

Exactly, and they'll uphold their own ToS as they see fit.

The only president to be impeached more times than he was elected... and if I remember correctly there's only been 4 presidential impeachments? And Donald Trump holds TWO OF THEM.

Half the impeachments our nation has ever had... belongs to a single man. This is hilarious.

He did it all, including dancing to YMCA. I really hope this will work out.
The best call for unity right now would be republicans backing impeachment.

On another note: The coup was more dangerous than I have initially thought.
At first, i dismissed the claims that the rioters had help from inside (and some of it was unfounded, blabla selfie, blabla gate.).

However, now there is reason to believe that ayanna Presley's panic button (in her office) was ripped out BEFORE the rioters entered and they knew the locations of the places they wanted to go to. This was prepared.
Trump witholding special forces and them taking a long time to arrive was prepared.

Before I thought it was a situation of lacking security because they underestimated the craziness and rioters who took the opportunity they had after trump aimlessly fired them on.

But right now, I think we actually were just one step away from senators and congresspeople dying and being abducted and that somebody who is not a grunt wanted that scenario to happen.

There definitely are members of congress and senate who are THAT insane. It's not even an unusual amount of crazy in the republican party for the past 10 years... Add to that the simple fact that law enforcement within the US is ideologically on the right wing... which I really can't stress enough, has gone beyond insane. Over the past few years it has become increasingly common to hear right wingers and conspiracy theorists go on about executing people. This is not a joke, it's not satire, it's NEVER sarcasm, they absolutely mean every execution they mention. ALSO you have to consider that a month before the election trump fired a bunch of big shots in the.... department of defense IIRC and replaced them with loyalist. Now, given how trump usually operates the most likely scenario is that the actual level of cooperation was not specially high among these people. I'd bet it look more like trump calling these insane people and tell them who the other insane people who think like them are. But since these people are insane anyways the coup ended up being just a massive stupid pizzagate.
