Ging is more of a prick? I don't really see their ideals or reasons to be away making any difference. They're both selfish and obsessed men, and that's why these characters might be admired, but I get your point. In my eyes these guys are good characters, like Goku (prefer Goku more of the three).

Theta is such an awesome char., she has really some guts to confront M. Psycho, this girl is one of the best character introduced this arc, if not the best. Again the 1st time she was introduced she looked like the cold guard, i was like "im sure shes as "evil as tserrid", but i was so wrong, oh really wrong, she knew who she has to deal with from the start and is trying to get rid of him all by herself. I love her personality, her determination, her kindness, she deserves to be my 9pointers please toga, be nice with her

The irresponsible father stereotype. You can't dislike him because he's just following his heart looking for adventure, and what we've seen of him he's a genuinely good guy (but selfish). Just as a Hunter, he's obviously very near the top.

Yep, i like Ging as a hunter and his bouts with pariston back then and in beginning of the ongoing arc too. Tht moment of father and son was great too.
Sure, bad parent and such, but H x H doesn't exactly have parent materials. All top ones r exactly same bad or even worse.
Gyro's father, Kakin king making their children participate in bloodbaths, or be it Zolydyck family's treatment of alluka as a tool, confiding her or torturing killua . Even netero was a bad parent to his son and tried to eliminate him iirc. Basically, all of them r selfish and irresponsible ones and wanting to control their child to their own means and desires....At least ging is a bit better than tht.
And lmao, might run in freecs family if the author of tht book who visited dark continent is related to gon and ging. I also expect gon would be same as ging seeing his selfishness.

Leaving aside parenting issue, he is a badass hunter, the one what i basically want from the series. Not everyone can do both like WB, not even dragon.

Does it matter if Ging is a bad parent by our standards? He stimulated Gon's call to adventure and that's a big part of the story, the HxH verse is just different to ours. It's the same thing with One Piece.

Not that Hunter doesn't show us how to raise children - thank you, wonderful Zoldyck family.

zolydyck family is filled with all the stereotypes. Maso mom, sadistic dad ,selfish child milluki, cheerful child alluka, tsundere killua, Brocon illumi, and seeking attention Kalluto.
Sometimes, i feel, only zeno is the normal one in their family looking at them.

This is a weird discussion. Ging is a dick and shouldn't have had a child in the first place. Sure, he is strong, smart and cool and has great ideas. He isnt a rotten evil person or anything, he has his good attributes as well. But that doesn't change the fact that socially he is pretty much an ass. Leorio punching him was very satisfying.

And it's definetly all different case than Dragon.

A) Getting out there to do interesting things freely for the sake of fun is way less forgivable than being out there fighting a tyrannical world order.
B) We don't know the whole story with Dragon. He might have wanted to keep Luffy, but it was Garp who brought him to Foosha and eventually placed in Dadans custody. In Gings case we know pretty much the full story. He ditched Gon to his grandma so he could himself freely enjoy his work without needing settle down.
C) His grooming of Gon into a great Hunter from a far is just bullshit. Its way too convoluted. At any point Gon might have lost the trail for a little thing. And Gings excuses in some twists are non-sense and just for the sake of his own personal preferences. Like the fact that Accompany takes Gon to Kaito because "if he needs company, he isn't strong enough himself or doesn't need to find me anyway because he already has close friends" is bullshit.

I like Ging as a character, but trying wash him into some sort of semi-saint just because he is smart and doesn't exactly have ill aims is wrong. He is douchebag. A cool douchebag, but still a douche.

Fully agree. I think it was the anime that was trying to promote this stupid idea, didn't get that impression in the manga.

Aren't you the one giving him a free pass "because all parents in HxH suck"? You guys in the first place made the argument that Ging suckiness is less sucky because all characters suck. Not me, I was just solely talking about Ging, not anyone else. Yes, most parents in HxH suck. That's actually imho one theme of HxH - lot of the personal misery in the series comes from poor parenting, including Gon plunge to despair for losing his closest thing to a father-figure.

False - because we do not know the full circumstances of that story. Maybe he wasn't a Revolutionary Leader at the point he decided to have Luffy? Maybe he was just on ordinary guy then. Maybe Garp "confiscated" Luffy only after some uncontrollable events lead Dragon to become too radical. We just simply know as much about that story as we know about Gings story. Sure, Dragon could be as much of an dick - but we simply do not know that yet. We know nothing on his history or motivations or personality. We do know some of Gings. Based on surface factors we know that Dragon is doing noble things (maybe, just maybe, for selfish reasons) and Ging is doing just things that he finds fun (sometimes noble, sometimes not so).

Zeno Zoldieck, where should I start? Despite his job and position as an assassin, he strikes me as one of the most reasonable and balanced characters in the show, I'm sure if Melody listened to his heartbeat she would hear this song. He's the cool gramdpa we all deserve but never had. I want to sit with him in a nice dinner table with the finest Chinese cuisine, listen to his out of this world and funny stories starting with the one about why he would never retire.
Even Chrollo was almost blushing in his presence for god's sake.

On top of that, the guy is a veteran fighter with out of this world strength, figures out his opponents like an open book before they even decide on a move. Easily top 10.

Plus, he gave us one of the best fights in all anime history.

Zeno sparks joy! He's made out to be this sweet old man, walking bent over and doting his favourite grandchild, but then he unleashes the beast from within and whips out his sick moves without even breaking a sweat. I'm particularly in awe of how controlled he is at all times, never losing sight of his goals. He proved this during his auction showdown with Chrollo as well as the palace invasion, where he immediately stepped back and remained impartial once his job was done. I think it's fair that his sick skill and power is for rent only, otherwise HxH would quickly have turned into The Zeno Show (I'd still watch it). I also felt for him when he learnt he might've accidentally killed an innocent bystander for the first time, which I think humanised him greatly and showed us that even assassin grampas have feelings.

And let's be real dudes and dudettes, his fancy story time on Isaac Netero was hella lit and you all wish you could've attended his lil soirée in person.
I'd wine and dine with Zeno any day!
