What's everyone's thoughts on Build King's latest developments? Do you think it's changing things up as a last attempt to gain a fanbase, or is it already dead and rushing into a final arc of sorts?
the fast escalating stakes in this chapter are outta place for this series

usually this manga wastes so pages on weird long gags and dozen of new characters introduction
heck, they spent 2 pages explaining the colors power system in a lazy infodump that most people skipped just last week
the healer guy and the ugly guy that wants to be an idol being revealed as the villain secret nakama also happened too fast

to me it looks like this chapter was written in the week he got the "start wrapping it up" phone call

Haikyu!!! Has been licensed in Argentina by Ivrea Argentina (first Spanish speaking country that licensed this title, usually spokon don’t sell well in this language, so it’s quite surprising)
When Oikawa was revealed to be playing in Argentina after the time skip, one of the big Argentinian clubs did a whole Welcome! Campaign with him on their team and that had a pretty nice fan feedback. I'm guessing that's why the puiblisher has licensed Haikyu.

But thank goodness he wasn't named. With all the good I can wish of Kimetsu, the idea that the film is even considered as Oscar-worthy stuff is ridiculous, come on.
Why kimetsu being oscar-worthy is something ridiculous? The oscar are a joke and usually the animation film award is 'The pixard/disney movie of the year no matter how weak it is'.
Is like complaining at crunchyroll awards...

I'd like to be wrong on Kowloon since I've liked it so far, so lets see. But I am not gonna bet on it.
I like Kowloon too, but its pacing remembers me of The Last Sayuuki. Personally, I like series with slow starts, but it seems like most part of the audience don't.

Not sure if someone posted earlier, but Haikyuu also got licensed in Brazil last month. The local publisher chose a 2 in 1 format since it's a big series and spokon don't sell that much here either. There might be a licensing 'wave' for this series now.

And here comes the most biased anti Kimetsu post of 2021
I have nothing against Kimetsu, but it is unthinkable that a film based on a manga of the Jump could be considered Oscar material.

I don't think the Demon Slayer film, which to be understood must at least rely on the TV series or manga, can be seriously nominated for an Oscar.

Because it's simply not Oscar-worthy material
'Oscar-worthy' just means appealing to dickheads among the academy or making big enough noise that those dickheads can't ignore (i.e. parasite).
'Oscar-worthy' for animation is even more worthless. Those dickheads don't even bother to watch the nominees. One even stated to only vote for stuff their children recognised.
Hell, I bet 140% the reason Ghibli films got oscars was due to its American distributor being the fucking Mouse (who owns ABC which airs Oscar btw).

As opposed to the absolute masterpiece that was Shaun the sheep?
Please don't smear stain on cool sheep just because those dickheads from the academy acknowledged its existence.

But tell us why it isn't oscarworthy? We have 'how to train a dragon 3', despicable me 2 and sharktale as nominee years before.
And I barely care about Kimetsu being nominated but this sounds like a low quality bait.

Hm, I don't know if those are really comparable to Demon Slayer based on how they look alone. Additionally, I think also the adaptation the next arc of a 26 episode tv show, is different than, sequel to a movie, sequel to a movie, and original story.

That being said, I'm surprised so many people want it to be nominated when they probably haven't watched it (unless people think it should be nominated because it made lots of money and therefore it must be a masterful movie)

I thought How to Train Your Dragon 3 was pretty good, though. IMO a much better example would be this:

Hey, remember when A Silent Voice got snubbed from a nomination, yet Boss Baby got in?

Oscar worthy" lol what does that even mean? That it did not fit in what is usually picked for best animation (i.e whatever disney/pixar release)? That the distributors did not spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in advertising to create hype or send "gifts" to members of the Academy?

I'm not surprised that Kimetsu didn't get nominated but saying oscar worthy like it is something tangible when all you really need is hype, money or fitting into whatever box they want/ticking off things on their checklist of usual suspects

People thinking these awards have any merit whatsoever and using that as a way to shit on Kimetsu because they are salty it's so successful.
Always a laugh looking at such insecurities.

PS - I'm not targeting anyone here specifically. You see this on twitter and other social media as well.
But if you got offended by what I said above, the shoe did fit. So, that's something to think about.

Lmao yeah. Boss baby getting a nod is just proof that this is all just built on giving money/benefits/gifts to those making the decision.

Don't forget, part of the reason things get pushed to get nominated is because it helps drive physical sales/theatre grosses etc. So companies put in a lot of money and time lobbying to get even nominated.

Weird how they awarded a movie that had like 1000s of comics worth of lore and set up skipped and it still won.
You'd think that a Kimetsu movie having a 24 episode S1 or 7 volumes worth of manga shouldn't even be a factor in holding back a nomination, in comparison.

Almost as if, that doesn't matter and it's all just lobbying.
Weird.
I personally thought it was fine. On the technical merit side, I think they deserved it. It also helps that they have good storyboarding and direction, but most of all, for an adaptation, it doesn’t make newcomers feel lost in the midst of things, whereas the Mugen train would require prior viewing of the last season. That’s why I think Spiderverse wins out here.

Granted, purists will complain, but for what it’s worth as a self-contained movie, I enjoyed it.

Just one of the many absurdities of animation oscars.

How about Paprika, snubbed in favor of incredible movies such as happy feet, cars and monster house? Guess it wasn't quite "oscar worthy".

5cm per second should just kneel in front of a masterpiece such as Bolt, which very clearly displayed features of an "oscar worthy" movie.

Kaguya-hime no monogatari lost against freaking Big Hero 6 in 2014, I guess we should be happy it was even nominated! A movie like Wolf Children maybe wasn't quite enough "oscar worthy" to be put in the same sentence as Boxtrolls.

And these are just some examples I thought of off the top of my mind, the truth is that the Academy Awards are just a mean for americans to self-celebrate themselves and foreign movies are viewed with disdain, and that the animation category is looked at as nothing more than a child's pasttime that the voters don't give a crap about.

This isn't about Kimetsu, there have been far, far, far worse cases than it in the past, but I do find it ridicolous to look for validation and hide behind a meme buzzword like "oscar worthy" when the truth is there are far bigger reasons why the movie was never even put into consideration (speaking of which I'd hope wolfwalkers wins this year if I didn't know it would be a complete waste of time to do so because see point A).

Its just awards, I don't know if people really need to get up in arms for an organization to provide validation of your feelings or lack thereof of a matter.

The same always happens in manga awards and other industry awards.

People seemed to be ready to get up in arms if Demon Slayer won many awards this year
