I don't know about the two previous mangas you mentioned, but not wanting SXF to have dark drawings is a failure, just the fight scenes where Yor slices his enemies, Donovan's intentions and many other things (see hitjacking car arc). But as you said, Endo knows how to develop his characters individually because it's easier in a universe like Spy X Family which is close to realism, where Fairy Tail is an essentially magical universe. (But in the original series some characters and majority of the arcs had very good development, which is not the case for 100YQ where everything is fan service and stupid plots)

Yes, a REAL editor NOT a YESMAN or the magazine's boss would give him feedback.

If EZ didn't work, it's not because the Japanese don't like science fiction, it's just that he didn't listen to the fans, the editor wasn't doing his job, and the magazine's boss was very kind to give him so many volumes to finish the manga, given the sales figures.

It's been said, said again, repeated again and again: the main flaw of EZ since the beginning (and Mashima in general) is that it moves too fast, the narration and the fights.

100 QUEST works only for nostalgia, because it has exactly the same flaws.

All he's asked is to slow down the action a little, and that's the editor's job. Make that point to him, and if he doesn't want to listen, it's up to the magazine's boss to force his hand a little to improve sales and avoid fan frustration.
