It's a great trend, it makes a lot of sense and everyone love it, but I can somehow see dangers in just how quickly it became so widespread, too. Right now, any Jump movie which will be announced without the mangaka's script will instantly have that fact held against it.
That said it's a...
A couple of things to keep in mind:
- The ToCs aren't as precise as it appears you take them. We know that the ToC roughly reflects the polls, but we also know that it's possible that, for example, if Medaka polled 13th and PSI polled 14th, the editors may take several other details into account...
The ONLY magazine where a mangaka doesn't have to compete with OP and Naruto is WSJ. In fact, serializing in WSJ means enjoying OP's readership and having a much easier time being known.
The only thing harder about WSJ than other magazines is competing with the other new series. I don't know...
Toriko also does very good covers. And One Piece isn't bad at all, considering how many times Oda makes them and how many ideas he burned through already.
I agree that many Jump covers are not that good. Ch1 covers especially, are always very boring.
The exact number of 8 is less relevant than the pure fact that the ToC reflects the polls of a specific week. Even if we don't assume the 8 week rule, most of the discussion/speculation in this thread (based on the ToC) stays valid.
I didn't say deciding factor, but even with a 100 to 10 vote ratio, the 10 votes can (and should) be counted in the decision.
It won't turn around any Metalluca, but it might decide between two closely-voted series.
This is all speculation anyway, so I'll stop here.
Shounen Jump Alpha is actually very fertile grounds to introduce new series, when I'm thinking about it.
It's digital, and it's subscriptions-based. All they need to do is put the first chapter in Alpha (as a "preview") and poll the readers. If it polls well, it goes. Even if it's cancelled in...
Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2
Yeah as far semantics go. However, regarding cancellation...
I think the correct thing to think here would be to assume HxH is still getting special treatment. The only time we can know for sure that it's treated as a regular...
Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2
Both TLR and DGM went through sizeable changes in their content (I do think Nurarihyon could shift to darker content, but unlike those other 2, it doesn't seem like Jump is restricting it as much as them. To begin with, if...
Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2
No matter the reason, moving a series to SQ means it will sell less. It will come out at half the pace (thus make half the money), and lose fans (even if not much), plus it loses exposure to make new fans. Moving a series to SQ...
Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2
Except that there is precedent for series in Magico's position to stay without being cancelled throughout Jump's history, and precedent is stronger than logic.
Though, if we're going to go by logic, it could be argued that...
