Don't Republicans have control of the Senate and the White House? Didn't Republicans have control of the House and the Senate in the latter part of Obama's presidency? Regardless of where you stand on the issue, you can't lay any sort of legislative inaction at the foot of Democrats, that's incredibly ass-backwards.
On a separate note, as an outsider, I'm curious about the function of the House in American politics. In theory, they serve some sort of constitutional purpose but in practice, it seems to me that whatever they do can be safely tossed away by the Senate or the President which renders them essentially useless. Moreover, the Senate chooses the Supreme Court justices which gives them legal footing in all their decisions. Even though the justices say they're impartial, their decisions strongly correlate with the interests of the parties that have chosen them. AFAIK the US established the same system from the UK but the Upper House only serves a symbolic purpose in the UK now, so perhaps some sort of adjustment is needed in the US to give the House some sort of practical power. Just a thought.
If I am not mistaken Britain once had a mass shooting incident but after they banned guns for ordinary civilians till now this incident had not happened a bit.

So few politicians want to put limits on access to guns and investigative background checks that it is doubtful america will take this course of action for the foreseeable future.

Don’t play those violent video games! According to Trump they are the reason for these shootings. Oh and don’t listen to Marylin Mason. It was the reason for Columbine not the easy access to guns.

Another week another mass shooting. Hopefully democratic candidates have an answer to the increasing problem of gun violence on American soil. If lawmakers in congress and the house of representatives as well as state governing bodies were serious about gun control, California and Texas would not have had incidents by rogue actors in recent times.
Thoughts and prayers to the many lives lost and others dramatically changed on today and last weekend.
the onus isn't on democrats, it's on republicans as they are the ones who keep preventing any gun safety bills being passed and are happily letting people die. And didn't Trump pass a bill allowing people with mental health issues to buy guns again?
Why is he a horrible choice? As much as I like Yang and I've voted for Sanders in the past, I don't see how they have a better chance to win than Biden.
Why do Democrats have to have an answer when they've been for gun control reform for ages? It's the NRA-backed GOP that tends to always oppose such measures. You make no sense.
Because he's proving himself to be out of touch, and a lot of left wingers don't like him. He appeals more to old people and probably centrists, but not to most left wingers (that I've seen anyway). Plus, he's been accused of inappropriately touching women as well, and that's definitely not going to help him.

USA and Britain are different. Was the gun culture strong and insane in Britain like it is here, where our Second Amendment guarantees us right to own guns (though this was back when guns were not even semiautomatic, I think?)?

They have a constitutional right to “bare arms”. Just like freedom of speech

Out of touch with what? Is he more or less out of touch than Trump? Newsflash, so-called "centrists" are more popular because more people from all alignments would be more willing to vote for them.
He hasn't been accused, he's "done" it on camera. The guy is touchy-feely and doesn't know the boundaries that some people have in public situations. It's a character flaw, but it doesn't compare to having a dozen women accuse you of rape/assault/harassment. We shouldn't lower our standards just because of how much an embarrassment the current administration is, but we also don't need to throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak.
This is lip-service. If he wanted reform he wouldn't suggest pairing it with immigration reform, it would need no prerequisites. He's leveraging doing something about gun control against his version of immigration reform and when Democrats refuse to do that, he'll blame them for the inaction on the issue. Again, an important issue on the minds of many people is being used by him as a political football. But of course, MAGA people will use this opportunity to eat up everything he says about it and blame Democrats the next time there's a mass shooting. Or a lack of mental health services that they refuse to offer to the less fortunate.... OR, you know, videogames, like they're doing right now.

Undocumented immigrants are threats to national security in both their stress on already understaffed and overworked systems and infrastructure but also their access to guns.

That doesn't address anything I said. My point was that Trump is floating the idea of pairing them together in the same bill. Trump's idea of immigration reform would not have broad support from Democrats. If he actually cared about this issue he wouldn't put prerequisites on it like this.

How many undocumented immigrants have participated in a mass shootings? How many citizens have participants in a mass shootings? While I agree people should take legal procedures in becoming immigrants, claiming they are a threat isn’t completely validated.

In regards to whom? To their bases, I'd say Biden would be more out of touch except to maybe centrists and old sharts who are okay with him being creep. Are centrists really that popular though? Maybe among moderates, but I don't see them being that popular. The right will go with whoever aligns with their values, and it'd take a fair right winger to think about voting center. The left (or at least I) may not think centrists are hard enough on bigoted/hateful stancse and/or stuff like misogyny and issues that plague us. I certainly think Biden would defer to republicans more than most democrats would. They'd prefer someone like Warren.
It doesn't, but the way Biden shrugs it off or refuses to learn from it and move on is what's hurting him. and on top of that, some of the things he says about millennials doesn't help his case either, like saying they should do something like his generation did (which is what we're doing).

This is incorrect, and the past few days have shown that white supremacists are bigger threats to national security with their domestic terrorism. I think we've had more right wing white supremacists kill Americans than Muslims since 9/11, including 9/11.
That's simply not true, there's plenty of NeverTrump Republicans and Independents who would vote for Biden over Trump.
I'm all for people picking the best candidate, but raking Biden over the coals while the field is still so huge is counter-productive. Especially if the party moves further left and insists on shitting all over Obama's legacy to separate themselves from the pack. That's an excellent wayto hand Trump a second term.

Political violence in general is the issue, not necessarily what they stand for. Don't forget, the Dayton shooter was a left wing extremist... and it's not a coincidence that extremism on both sides can result in the same sort of atrocities.

About time I saw someone else bring this up. There's commonalities in behavior between all humans, even the most admirable and the most heinous. I just hope more people would realized that and stop trying to act like there's a world of difference between them and "the other."
As for the elections, I would very much like for someone to succeed Trump. A lot of his platforms have merit and he can play the political game better than most so-called politicians, but he's a weak leader. He's not in bed with them, but trying to sweet talk North Korea and Russia isn't a great look, even if his administration has actually been fairly hard on them and China as well. The voicing of support of resource-rich Saudi Arabia in the face of the assassination of that journalist was appalling, to say the least. Plus, he's made plenty of stupid and childish remarks, this video game violence meme being one of them.
Still, I have yet to see another candidate who I thought is worth voting for, baring in mind that I like Tulsi Gabbard quite a bit. Andrew Yang's and Hippy Lady's differing platforms are nice to see as well. Still, every other candidate I've looked up so far as been in support of illegal immigration, non-conditional abortion, and trying to buy votes with unrealistic promises of free-stuff. I've not looking for our country to go the way of the Roman Empire.
Regardless, it doesn't seem like the democratic party has learned from 2016, the libertarian party is somewhat appealing but too simple-minded lacking support, and any other notable party I've seen is too radical and lack support (thankfully).
So, I would very much like to see someone replace Trump, but the candidates I've been seeing so far aren't going to cut it for me. I voted against him in 2016, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to say the same in 2020.
There still is though, especially when we talk about mass shootings like this. It's almost also a white conservative male. And it doesn't help that the president refuses to take a firm stance against the extreme Right, even emboldening them in some situations. He refuses to do it not because he agrees with everything they stand for, he does it because they support him. He has no backbone.
I also think the optics of bringing up pairing gun control reform with immigration reform when the El Paso shooter did what he did because he was anti-immigrant are remarkably bad... but I guess nothing should surprise us about Trump by this point.

Well, that's disappointing. Yeah, there are differences between groups, but focusing on the similarities first and differences second makes people more ambitious when looks at greatness, more humble when looking at wrongdoings or failure, and makes everyone seem less like some "other thing" and more human. It just seems far more productive to me.
He definitely was trying to get those white supremacist votes before. It's a wonder how the narrative of him being a an outright racist himself got so much traction when he hung with people like Al Sharpton. Regardless, he recently came out and voiced direct opposition to that which is good:
As for the reform policies he's bringing up. That's unfortunately not something that's unique or common for Trump. "Riders" are pretty common. Trump is just more transparent. Regardless, I can't say I'm a big fan of riders, but it might get something done. If we don't fool ourselves into thinking no course corrections will have to be made and keep the ball rolling, then something good could come out of that questionable rider. The chances of that happening like that a slim, but it's important to note.

I'd be skeptical of attempts to get never trump republicans on board. Realistically speaking democrats should aim to get younger voters to show up and vote and independents, both of whom lean left. Pandering to never trumpers as a democratic candidate sounds like pandering to people who at a minimum loath you at the expense of those you should be aiming to have as a base. And this also sounds like hillary's election strategy back in 2016. And I can't stress enough how much of a loser she is thanks to it.

Are you sure? Many terrorist acts have been committed by islamic extremists who came from abroad or folks here who were indoctrinated by them. These few america criminals are uncommonly rare and negligible if we're keeping count. If what you say is true, there wouldnt be this narrative that immigration/illegal and vetting/banning of certain countries is bad and necessary.

What makes you think they would? "NeverTrump" part? Plus, I did say "fair," which would include republicans like McCain (the only example I can think of) who were/are against Trump.
Is it really though? I guess we'll see, but Biden still gives me doubts unless he can actually prove he'll be more left than he hints to be instead of buddies with republicans.
What they stand for also plays a part though, given what happened in El Paso, few gurudwaras here, and at a mosque in Canada and New Zealand. And how often do you see left-wing terrorism as opposed to right-wing?

Back it up, provide proof. These few American criminals aren't uncommonly rare and negligible, and racism isn't negligible, it's prevalent. I don't know what rock you live under, but they've committed too many violent acts towards others just because of different skin or ethnicity. From research I did long time ago, Muslims in America aren't dangerous, and you're more likely to be killed by a white supremacist than you are by a Muslim.
This narrative comes from the bigoted right who love to lie and make up shit. The vetting of refugees is extremely stringent, hence why there are rarely any violent refugee as opposed to white Americans who barely get vetted before they buy guns. And, Trump banned countries that didn't hurt USA at all while doing nothing about the countries that did hurt us. Islam/Muslims are a symbol for the bigoted far right to rally behind and hate, just as Judaism was Nazi's to get support.
If republicans really cared about Americans' safety, then they'd do something about the gun problem, to start with, instead of just sending prayers and thoughts so they can keep getting money.
