So... from what I am reading biden's build back better bill might still not pass the senate? Imagine being so bad at your job that even after gutting the bulk of your campaign promises and immediately caving on everything as if you didn't give a shit about it to begin with you still don't pass a bill on which your presidency might as well hinge.

Welp, biden's BBB is dead.... Not sure if only for the time being or just in general. Then again, it probably won't matter because even if its picked up again... what else can biden do that he hasn't already tried? He is clearly not willing to push further and giving up more stuff just makes this a greater failure. It might even be a better political strategy to simply not pick this up again because democrats already dropped every major promise at play here and got literally jack shit. Biden's "nothing will fundamentally change" plan is running like swiss watch though.

The fact that this is still talked about with such fervor by conservatives is just the ultimate self-own in my opinion. A lesson in history that they claim to cherish so much would tell them that "Happy Holidays" was first used at least as early as the 1800s in order to include celebrations of the Epiphany as well. Ironically so many "good" Christians rarely acknowledge that at all, especially in pursuit of "Merry Christmas"-only. Being inclusive of Christian (not really Christian but that's another can of worms) holidays this time of year is okay.... any other faith? Get out!

Yeah... *shrug* Hopefully the optics of this doesn't result in people choosing to vote Red.

As an atheist, I never felt the need to say "Happy Holidays" to avoid taking part in Christmas. I love Christmas. It's the most wonderful time of the year. I still say Merry Christmas because I celebrate the... secular aspects of it. The pageantry, the gift giving, the songs and the food. If I offend a non Christian by saying it, I'll just calmly explain that I'm not a Christian either, and apologize. Hasn't happened yet but, that's my plan. So far I've just had people ask me why I celebrate Christmas if I'm not Christian. Some of them going as far as to claim I'm really a Christian.

Yeah... well it's not a Christian holiday, as many of them are really just co-opted Pagan celebrations. Of course, that happened long enough ago to where maybe you could claim irrelevancy, but it doesn't change the historical reality.

And it's hardly a Christian holiday for different reasons as well... as I doubt many people are even mindful of Jesus at all during the celebration.

Of course this is a lot of "I am very smart" fedora-tipping atheist takes that don't really add to anything, but with them using the whole tired "War on Christmas" talking point that adds to this culture war they're obsessed with it's hard to forget about.

or choosing to not vote at all when they might have voted blue.

LITERALLY THIS. I've never had anyone had an issue with "Merry Christmas" nor have I heard of anyone having an issue. If anything, companies probably chose "Happy Holidays" to seem more inclusive, and the right and "anti-woke" idiots thought or decided to blame the left for it.

Ah yes, the weekly reminder that your average congress member is every bit as bad as jackasses on the street that rob people at gunpoint...

Yeah, and liberals need to stop being so shitbrained by acting like this is acceptable as long as they advocate for important social issues.

The collapse of western society is at our doorstep. Hopefully Manchin can also stop Communist Biden from enforcing non-gendered language at our local bakeries.

How bitter of a person do you have to be to be upset about an attempt at using language that doesn't offend someone? To be offended that someone cares about the feelings of other people?

Well, that's a relief.

It's not even about that for me, it's blaming Democrats for it. You know, the ones whose main figures had to be dragged kicking and screaming to give full-throated support to something like marriage equality.

I'm perfectly fine with Dems being blamed for it, because even if they aren't responsible, the fact that the Left in general is equated to progressiveness and inclusiveness is something that'll be remembered into the future, and cause future generations of socially progressive minded folks (whether politically literate or not) to swear allegiance to the Dems to a fault while instilling that into the minds of their children and on and on.

Long game.

Now that you mention it, it is actually a bad strategy on the republican end to continually frame democrats as the party of inclusiveness and progressiveness while framing themselves as, well, not a party of inclusiveness and progressiveness. It'd be a different thing if they were framing themselves as proposing different path towards those but that's almost never the case.

I don't really care to bolster Democrats with half-truths, at least not while the leadership is still full of corporatist ghouls.

It's not a bad strategy, because being anti-inclusive and anti-progressive is that crowd's bread and butter. It's very important to them to frame something goofy and inconsequential like a gender-neutral cookie as typical of any ideal or thought a left-leaning person would find important. "They care about baked goods' pronouns while we care about lowering your taxes".

Sure, there is a specific crowd that definitely loves that. But... this sort of thing has definitely lost them young voters. The GOP already relies on states with marginal populations to hold its power and urban areas are increasingly lost to them almost regardless of state. It might not be immediate but at some point this is going to be problematic for the GOP... and you can only be so anti progressive and anti inclusion before being pro regression and pro exclusion. Democrats aren't held back by lack of support for policy, they are held back by their utter inability to stand for anything or fight for any policy their constituents care for, which in turn causes people to simply not bother voting.

Yeah but they don't need young voters if they continue to be successful making it harder to vote.

They don't remain opposed to these issues, the times change and then issues are no longer seen as "progressive" when they're just commonplace. Obviously there are some exceptions like abortion, but everything else? They're just fine being chronically wrong about every social issue in existence for as long as they can manage it. Doesn't seem like anyone is interested in holding that against them... or at least any significant amount of people.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

It's not just a Republican thing though, look at Hillary Clinton. Prime example of only supporting progressive issues until it is politically convenient.

What else is new? Republican voters are deluded into thinking they're not sensitive and are tough despite crying about more stuff than the left, like the ginger person thing. It's embarrassing.

How or why is it a bad strategy? It's a great strategy on their end, and there are even young adults/teenagers who should know better that'll agree with them, especially the ones raised by bigoted parents/in a bigoted environment. They're clearly against inclusiveness and progressiveness, and yet non-white people still support them against their better interest.

What's the alternative? I don't like incrementalism... but it's the best plan imo. If we wait for Dems to stop sucking we'll be waiting forever while the Right continues it's war on empathy.

Sure, it's not a bad strategy because it appeals to their base. But their base is shrinking because they're ostracizing anyone that's not a straight, white, Christian male with their policies, while pushing them over to our side. It's a good strategy for keeping certain demographics pacefied, but a bad one for appealing to many, many others.
