Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

Chapter 15 was good. I am curious about the mysteries coming along with all might and the symbol of peace. Their attacks are aimed at him and things won't look good if back up doesn't arrive on time. Eraserhead can not deal with all of them. Midoriya, Tsuyu and Minoru might have won this fight but they are still too young to fight against the protagonists among the villains.

Anyway I hope fallen anagels will catch up soon. This is truly refreshing.

Looks like I am the only one who is not a big fan of Tsuyu...

Midoriya used to write everything about heroes in his notepads, he has plenty of knowledge, that's why he always come up with a good strategy. At first, he planned to study in Yuuei even though he was quirkless, so he would have only your brain and knowledge to do so.
It's not his knowledge but how how he deals with the situation despite being someone who only recently obtained a Quirk that I find particularly impressive .

You will succumb to her awesomeness in the future, I'm sure. :XD
Maybe next chapter... :heh

It is his knowledge, believe me. XD
First, he is a big fan of All Might, he has plently of knowledge about his power and how to use it. Also, he wrote about other quirks and he probably knows quirks similar to his colleagues that he used as a base to come up with his strategy. I think it was the way the author found to make Midoriya good enough, without looking like an amateur with his quirk.

I'm not a fan either. I prefer Ochako.

I really dig Tsuyu, though Ochako is pretty great, too. So far the females are cool and I hope they won't suffer the same fate many many females in other manga did.

I like Tsuyu because of her character design and her calm personality. Her power also has a lot of potential, you guys should have read the lisf of powers she has, some of them still weak to be used in battles, the acid power for example, but that could develop to something great. I like Uraraka as well as Momo. Indeed, the girls are pretty cool, it is the chance to make a manga where male and female characters have the same attention of the author.
In the past, I was expecting something like that from Shokugeki no Soma, but it dissapointed me in this item.

Are you talking about what I said? Lack of attention and development towards female characters? It is bad and happens often, indeed.

Chapter 16 is out guys: http://www.mangabird.com/boku-no-hero-academia-16
My thoughts about this one.

After two great victories upon villains by the students, things are starting to get worse, the tough villains are starting to appear and Eraserhead and No.13 are not enough to deal with them, far from it, they are already defeated. What will the students do to overcome this crisis? Now I can affirm with certain security that they don't have a chance, All Might will have to appear and deal with this villains. The director is holding All Might though. :fail

Sound, electricity and creation, only a few ones are competent fighters. Noumu was the one supposed to fight All Might.

No.13's Quirk is OP but he is not a good fighter.

But you can be knowledgeable, smart and yet panic in dangerous situations. Armin from SNK was like that for example.

Sound is good for support, electricity is overpower, but it has its drawback, creation is also OP, you can create anything! lol

Boobs > Ochako and Tsuyu you meant. :hurr
Momo has the creation power right? And her power use her clothes to create things... The fanservice girl is decided! XD
But you know, when it comes to boobs, Ochako and Tsuyu have decent ones as well. :nod

Armin is a bitch, he doesn't count. :lmao
The first thing you must have to be a hero is courage, if you are going to panic in front of villains (like Minoru did, didn't like his reaction) you will not get anywhere and you will not last long.

Fear all of us have, but heroes have to save it for them and fight face to face with villains.
The follow chapters will talk about it.

Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

Yes, I understood what you said, but is it gravity? Zero Gravity will make people fluctuate, run while in zero gravity is impossible because you don't have floor (we have a demonstration of this in Uraraka very first scene with Midoriya in front of the school), you could jump higher though, that's what I said. I think that you are confusing Mass with Weight, I think that when you talk about Raikage-Oonoki combo, you are talking about mass, Oonoki manipulates the mass. Weight, on the other hand, is the force exerted by gravity in relation to another object attraction.
Uraraka quirk is zero gravity, so it influences the weight. Midoriya would jump higher taking advantaging of zero gravity and then fall with higher gravity (consequently, higher weight) to make his blow. The gravity in the Earth is a force from above to below though, so he would have to use it in this direction only.
There is another problem though, he may not resist high gravity since he is used to Earth gravity, so it will have to be for a short amount of time and should be used in the right time, too. Why Uraraka gets sick when she uses her power in her entire body? Because she is not used to zero gravity. It is like astronauts, they have to get used to zero gravity before going to space otherwise they will vomit everything they eat.
My internet got cut off 'cause I was behind on bills, sorry if it took this long to reply. But anyways, you know why when boxers jab, their opposite leg is in front while the leg on the same side is in the back? this is because the leg on the same side provides thrusting power for the punch. This is because the boxer's center of gravity is focused on that leg, and that center of gravity pushes the arm forward like a booster.

If, for instance, Ochako can increase the gravitational pull of Midoriya's leg thus, increasing his center of gravity, then the more powerful Midoriya's punch will be from the extra thrusting power from his center of gravity.

I think someone can explain this better than I do, though. anyone?

I like Tsuyu because of her character design and her calm personality. Well, I wouldn't call Tsuyu calm so much as being laid back. I just think she's bit more easy-going, but is very perceptive towards her surroundings. Which is how she figured out Midoriya's Quirk.

Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

So those villians really were superweak ones and only around 4 of them are real threats. Makese sense if you look at how a couple students are able to beat groups several times bigger than theirs without taking much or any damage at all. While we don't see the fights of other students yet like that guy in the flame city or the two in the rainy area it looks like they got everything under control there as well.

At least those couple supervillians who are a threat are really one as they are able to take out the two hero teachers. Then again one was a disaster relief hero with little battle experience and the other one is more of an assassin hero and not a brawler against amyn opponents, so it was kind of a given that they get taken in by the supervillians.

Momo's creation quirk is really useful, like if she can create legit gold with it she had no need for a life as a superheroine at all. XD

Todoroki is so powerful it feels kind of insane to have put him in the first year and not make him skip a class or two.^^;

Kaminari is fun and same goes for Kyouka, those two would make a fun couple, the always talking very emotional boy and the usually quiet and more reserved girl, both with pretty cool quirks to fight with as welll. Hope those two will be in the same teams in the future as well. :D

Yeah, something like that and you mentioned something I didn't, she is a good observer.
However, calm is also a word that defines her if you consider that Minoru almost peed his pants while she was failry calm. XD

Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

It's been nagging me for the past few days, but I finally realized what's been missing from the series, and it could be the fatal flaw for this series and end it earlier than we expected: There's not enough world-building in this series. All of the successful Jump mangas in the past has all had one thing in common, and that is the richly extensive world-building in it. If we look no further than the Big 3, one common point to their success would be their rich and detailed world-building.

If we are touting and hoping for this series to the Big 3's successor, then the author should start working on world-building in the story. One possible direction would be a JLA-like organization introduced later, but that might not be enough. The author is going to have to expand Midoriya's world beyond his school.

Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

We were right now in the presentation of the characters and the villains were already presented. Missions to practice their learnings outisde of the school is a given to expand to the world, it is just a matter of time. I don't see any mistake in the way the series is being conducted, that what I said in the WSJ some days ago, the series is not throwing everything in our faces, you cannot build a world in 20 chapter without messing everything up. Calm down.

Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

Problem is, this isn't WSM where you can take your time to build up the plot, so it's somewhat reasonable to worry. I don't mind the pace, actually. The only thing I'm worried about is whether the author can keep the series' world/universe interesting enough for the readers to follow.

The characters, action, and plot are all decently set up. It's just the world-building that's missing. Whether or not all of the three above can keep the readers engaged enough to keep its position, remains to be seen. If there is a dip in interest on those three, then the author will have to figure out how to build his world.

My only hope is this: I really hope the ranking does not force the author to rush his story. And considering that a key part in story-telling is missing in the manga, this may affect the rankings later on, but of course, I do think I'm being overly paranoid.

Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

I don't find a problem with world building tbh. It is expanding little by little by chapters.

This kind of story can continue as long as the author wants it, besides being a great hero Izuku has no goal. The problem would be to keep it entertaining.

Exactly, the pacing is good enough as it is now. The problematic when it comes to WSJ is the pacing, not the world building, many things happened in the last 20 chapters and not all of them were related to world building, even so they were interesting enough to hold the readers.

Izuku wants to be like All Might, he said to All Might and Bakugou that he will surpass them, that's his goal. Since All Might is the strongest hero, he wants to become the strongest hero, typical goal for a shounen manga.

See, the thing is.... I have had several bad experiences with Jump manga. That's why I have a certain level of distrust towards their mangas, so inevitably, it leaves me being paranoid towards a new series on whether they'll sink it or keep it afloat. But this one is one I'm praying will be the next mega-hit..... Which is why I badly want it to succeed, but retroactively, it leaves me overly paranoid with its progress.

You talk of the world building and the Big 3, but then you don't go deeper about it!

First you have to note that we are only at chapter 21. Than let's see how the other Big 3 were in their chapter 21 and how they expanded their stories and compare with Boku no Hero Academia.

1st- One Piece
At chapter 21 we were at the end of Buggy and Luffy battle. The chapter were Buggy explains his relationship with Shanks was one before to that.
At that point we only knew that Luffy would need to go to the Grand Line; that Marines, Pirates and Bounty Hunters existed; and about the basics of Devil Fruit abilities, we only knew about Luffy and Buggy and nothing about Logia, Paramecia and zoan. We didn't knew that he was in the East Blue, we didn't even had seen the map of the world. Everything else was pretty vague.
At that point we only had the 1st chapter with Shanks, Alvida and Coby chapter, Zoro introduction arc, and Buggy arc. Only that. There was no big World building at all. One Piece keeps mainly that until chapter 100, only introducing little information here and there. Only at the point of entering the Grand Line we really got a big junk of more specific information on the world.
Shichibukai were talked briefly after Baratie arc. The Marine Headquarters in grandline, the DenDen Mushi, the Newpaper Seagull were talked also briefly after Arlong Park.
In the end One Piece always introduced his world in a gradual manner, with some peaks of information at points. Yep, the world was always wacky and diverse, that can be seen as world building, but that is a thing more of strongly based fantasy worlds.

2nd- Naruto
At chapter 21 we were at the middle of the chakra train in Zabuza arc.
At that point we already had a lot of world building introduced. In reality Naruto introduced most of his world in chapter 9 and in the first confrontation against Zabuza.
At that point we were already introduced to the map of the world and the 5 big ninja villages and the kages. We were introduced to the client missions levels and degrees, we were introduced at the Ninjas levels and the path to become Hokage. We were introduced to the bloodline limit, Missing Ninjas and Anbu(Specialized ninja work), ninjas of other villages and other people of the world(Gato and Samurais).
After that little more was introduced to the story in terms of world building, mainly just diversity of the same things. In reality a lot of stuff was forgotten(Ninja levels, Client Ninja missions and their levels).
Naruto really gave really earlier the main portion of his world building, later the world building really degraded. Naruto could have kept that frenetic degree of world building or it should have changed to a more slower and gradual one later. Unfortunately it didn't do any of those, but at that time its world was already satisfactorily established for most people. For me it should have gone really beyond of that! A lot of stuff is mainly vague.

3rd- Bleach
At chapter 23 we were at the start of the battle between Ichigo and Grand Fisher, his mother killer.
At that point we only had a vague idea of Soul Society and we knew about Karakura Town. Other than that we knew little about shinigami and their objectives, basically what was shown in the first chapter about purification of souls. We also had Kon and Urahara, that at the time was just a mysterious dealer that helped Rukia.
We weren't even introduced to the Quincies at that point of time.
Mainly at that point we were discovering the intricacies of Hollows, Shinigamies as a job and about Ichigo story as a medium, turned Shinigami.
Bleach at the beginning had a really good and gradual world building, but than sadden almost stagnated. Well right now everything that is shown, is basically random and out of nowhere things in a super mega vague way that you can't connect at all. The King Palace and the Quincies place is one of the worst presented pieces of the world yet.

Boku no Hero Academia
Right now we are at the first appearance of the villains.
At this point we have an understanding of the "quirks" and a vague idea of their classifications(Emitter, Transformation, Mutant). The world is the same has our normal world, so that his already pretty established(just like in Bleach), but with little differences. Some differences were already shown like the Hero job, Heroes responsibilities(Rescue, Battle outdoors and indoors, investigation, support, damage control, genist(?)), existence of Heroics Schools and their curriculum(Heroics, Support, Management) and villains and the existence of organizations of evil, like the villain alliance.
Other than that Boku no Hero Academia is mainly focused in the school, like the name says, and the students. Work that is doing really well.
Note: That even though the world being developed is just a school, it still is world building and it still can be really good. We are still mainly seeing how the school works!
Right now Boku no Hero Academia is taking its time to present its world, showing it in a more gradual manner, like One Piece and Bleach in the beginning and less like Naruto. I just hope the author takes the example of One Piece and keeps going with the world building instead of Bleach. Or if its stop developing the world at least that is around the end of the manga(Just like Full Metal Alchemist) and not Bleach.

In the end whats more important is how well the author is capable of showing the world(and how interesting it is) and not how it progresses showing it. Given chapter 16 and the way the author presented the USJ I believe he can do cool world building like One Piece, and that his in reality going in that direction.

Re: Boku no Hero Academia by Horikoshi Kouhei

Ch21 in Japanese:

WARNiNG!! Contains spoilers.

Nice chapter. We see the aftermath of the fight. The villain with the hands warps back to his 'base' and talks with the one holding the strings to the attack on Yuuei (we don't see him though). From that conversation we learn two things:
- he's a man and pretty old (I assume he's around 50-60 or something) - he uses "washi - ワシ" to refer to himself which is something used only by aged men in Japan. For example this is what Bang uses in OPM
- he's being referred to as "sensei - 先生" which is what they use in Japan to refer to teachers (as well as other occupations like doctors etc) which might mean the perpetrator being the attack might actually be in Yuuei. Or something else entirely, I'm waiting to read more about this in the next chapters.
That aside, the chapters had some really funny scenes, the best one being with the guy that can shoot lasers from his navel. The second one being at the end of the chapter with all the teachers saying "the battle isn't over yet" and we learn something totally unexpected at the end.

Wrap it in spoiler tag is more efficient than warn in the top. XD

It is interesting to know these nuances that are lost when the chapter is translated (I read in Portuguese), so please continue posting them whenever you feel like it's important. :)
I think that they call him sensei because Tomura respect him as a master or something else. He is something very respected among the villains, I'm sure about it.
The funny scenes were great, this chapter was very refreshing after so much tension. I've prepared a post about the chapter, but I prefer post here when the chapter is released in English.
