Just a very very minor point for our last chapter (155):
Page 28 panel 3, Clare: "That's a difference" ---> lit. "That is to be expected"/"It's not a surprise" etc.

Utsune, in the raw magazine for the chapter there was a page with some sort of ranking thing on it (i think it was Roxanne, someone, Agatha, Chronos and then Yuma) do you have any idea what that was?

I always thought it would've been cool to have an alternate translation for a chapter, but I feared that'd be asking too much. The Claymores speaks so archaic at times, then back to regular speech... this is the final chapter, though.

Any who, I too kinda want to know what that page was about.

LOL this is hilarious, the title reads:

Top 5 characters that take the most time to draw!!

Of the many characters by Yagi-sensei, we have ranked them according to the time it takes to draw! Using rank 4 and 5 as a reference, try and figure out the top 3 characters.

No. 5:
Yuma
3 hours drawing time.
Have to adjust the protruding fringe before the face...

No. 4:
Chronos
5 hours drawing time.
The beta for the black hair...

(T/N: "Beta" is basically anything to do with shades/background effects and filling in blacks. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQGh-U-sZTo )

Try to rank the top 3 accordingly!
Roxanne
Anastasia
Agatha

Utsune:
Hmmmm I think (3) Ana (2) Rox (1) Agatha :p

@Valgav
Sorry for the incredibly late reply. I am pretty preoccupied at the moment (Number A would know...)
Will get to those clarifications when I find the time.

Sooo. . . I was a-watching Sailor Moon with my flatmate yesterday. I'd never seen it before (yes, I had no childhood) and was amused to learn that the monsters-of-the-week on that show are also called youma. Is this coincidence or is it a generic monster name that's fairly widely used?

Also, Sailor Moon x Claymore crossovers XD

Yeah, you'll find the word "yoma" in several anime. Also, Rosario+Vampire has been using the word "yoki" to refer to a monsters aura.
BTW which Sailor Moon did you watch, old or new.

Which version? I am still trying to figure that out :P We've got two versions of Sailor Moon in our entertainment system: one which, judging by the animation and voice track quality was taped in the 90s, and another which claims to be Crystal but which is identical to the other in every respect except that it's higher quality. That's the one we're watching and I just youtubed the transformation sequences and it sure ain't Crystal. Regardless, every time they yell "it's a yoma!" I imagine Clare smashing through the nearest wall ^^

Yeah, the word "YOUMA" is a pretty generic term, that's why you'll see it in so many places. The term comprises two kanji, "yō" and "ma."

"yō" has fundamentally two usages (as an 'adjectival prefix' of the sort if you could call it that), either to mean "coquettish" (as in woman, beauty) or "strange/ominous/eerie." I struggle to find the right English counterpart for the second usage as I'm accustomed to associating the word with something that is 'anti-human/against humanity.' The term "yōkai" (the things you find in Japanese folklore) also uses the same "yō."

So instead of "kai" (from youkai, kaitbutsu (monster)) "ma" is used as part of the term. "ma" is a lot more straightforward, as it simply means "demon/evil influence" and almost all terms that have "ma" in them are associated with evil and demons etc. with the exception of your typical 2D magical schoolgirl in cute pink dresses whose existence contributes to the evolution of language, I suppose.

And you went and picked Madoka for your example: the maho shojou series where a kanji with sinister associations actually makes sense ^^

I play at the moment the Claymore DS game. This game has a different ending for the battle in the north and a Miria and Teresa sidestory with unknown awakened beings. Here are some pictures from the game. Could someone translate?
If there is interest, we can also open a new thread.

(Sorry haven't had the chance to settle myself to translate this yet. I'll quickly go through this.)

Miria fights an AB. She's able to dodge his attack, and the AB compliments her for reading youki well and reacting quickly.
Miria 'thanks' his compliment, but thinks to herself he's strong in that he's able to mess up her youki reading and follow that with an attack.
The AB attacks again and this time he is able to hit Miria.
He compliments her for lasting this long, but says this is the end for her.
"After all, being in a half-assed state, a half-human-half-youma can never win against awakened beings.
Miria thinks: "I'm gonna get done in...!!"
AB: "...But I'll let you live for now. Cya."
Miria then thinks to herself, "??? dafaq? Am I... spared...?"

It's 'senshi', isn't it. The word that the warriors use to describe themselves. I can read Japanese now, I know it is, and let me tell you that until I've heard the words enough times in other contexts the fact that Claymore is about a bunch of female senshi who fight yoma ain't gettin' old~!

Not to mention the boat trip is now hilarious ^_^

Also, like, actual serious question: is their a more literal translation of what's always called the mainland than 'mainland'?
