Why are they still marketing Komi if his manga go canceled? I thought canceled meant he DIDN'T sell well

it's a marketing strategy....
it's his only popular work that actually appeared in weekly jump... so that's how people will recognize him.
like most new movies will say, "a new movie by the creators of"... then give a # of older movies that the director and producers made.
they did the same thing with komi's one-shot in Jump SQ, for the longest time it was a picture from DA instead of Personant, till a week or so before it was released.

but it's good hearing about another oneshot in the double issue i'm excited!
i'm also looking forward to the HQ personant Edited Manga, so thanks to haya5h1 for that!

but it's also not that it didn't sell well, it just that it wasn't as popular with most of the people who read the magazine there in Japan, though like the recption it got here, it had a cult-like following, where those that liked DA, loved it... myself included...
i constantly updated the wiki page, and informed people on the "Onemanga" Forums as new stuff came out. but for the most part, only the older readers actualy "got" it and loved it.

Somebody posted this in the TOC thread:

Jump planning

- 08-14 December : Chapters Jump #03
- 15-21 December : Chapters Jump #04-05
- 22-28 December : Chapters Jump #06-07
- 29 December - 11 January : None
- 12-18 January: Chapters Jump #08

#04-05 (22 December) :
Naoshi Komi (Double Arts) / One Shot
Could we possibly see the return of Double Arts? It did sell very well and they did leave off at a perfect spot to continue the story. Could we possibly see a sequel? That would be awesome.

Or maybe the post is just saying Komi is the author of DA.

I really want to to see Komi doing a new series. Either that or continue Double Arts.

DA kinda ended with a lot of open ends. It would be really nice if it were continued. Though seriously, I can't wait to see what Komi comes up with next. His work seems to be very refreshing and different in my opinion.

I'm assuming they're just identifying Komi by his work more-so than offering a sequel one-shot.

But, I'm impressed at how Komi really doesn't seem to be getting discouraged at all and is throwing himself back into things with Personant and now another one-shot in Jump, too. It's really nice to see such passion.

Just finished reading DA... What the hell! It is one of the best things I've read in a while.

I kinda get what happened. DA should have gone Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine instead of Jump, or anything with a less kiddy mentality.

Edit: I can't shake off the felling of a love story like Eureka Seven. Even shoujo would almost do it.

and that's how we felt when we heard of it canellation back in August/September, so it good to know that there're still new poeple becoming fans of his work... and are just in tune with us about WSJ's childness...

Somehow I managed to get the only copy of Double Arts 3 in my country while it was still in the box at Kino.

I scanned these in a hurry, forgive the quality. I'm still busy catching up on scanning other stuff but I really wanted to get these out there:

Can someone translate Komi-sensei's message? I only can tell that he's really grateful for all the letters.

and special! final page after the epilogue!

translation:
Title: "After that..."
Panel 1
[unknown] Elle!

Panel 2
[no text]

Panel 3:
[unknown] Hurry up! Everyone's waiting, you know?

Panel 4
Elle: Okay!

Panel 5:
[no text, but :D]

Here's something else I saw when I was putting the jacket back on:
I was wondering if it was considered unusual for the goodbye in the final volume to be in English? Or did Komi-sensei know that he had many fans in the English-speaking world? (or is he just being random?:XD ...also a possibility)

it's hard to not notice online communities nowadays, so i wouldn't be surprised if he saw his fanbase out there, but english is always a fun thing to put on books it seems.
but seriously, fuck yeah to all the bonus content! this series is truly the biggest shame to see go since.... well zombie powder as unusual cancellations go..

also awwwww Dreadlocked Komi has tears! man i wish i could read his comment!

(also notable is the frequent presence of little bits of english on his volume covers and stuff, something that hasn't passed us by eh :D)

I wonder if Komi could pick up DA again in the future and continue it. It was getting more interesting as the mystery behind troi. You knew that just by reading it, things weren't going to suddenly take some sort of 90 degrees turn and get big but things were big from the get-go.

Elle and Kiri gotten much dangerous due to Fallan accompanying them. Don't forget about cherry-obsessed and battle-obsessed Sui. The impending growth of danger from Gazelle was going to happen while El, Kiri and co made their way towards their destination was on the horizon also. Much much more so after they've reached it too. I'm sure when El and Kiri made it to the Cathedral, much more information will be revealed on troi and possibly theories of its origination and troi's connection to Gazelle.

Ah the frustration of not getting to see where this story goes is mind boggling. Just hope it's not some sort of teasing.

I heard rumours that Zombie Powder got canceled because its author had somewhat of a nervous breakdown....

.....well, maybe one day we'll get a DA sequel! it's......uh...possible. I guess. I loved this manga so much..why did it have to be canceled?

well that's the ticket, I can't help but feel that if ZP was cancelled due to the author being mentally unfit to continue it, then isn't it possible that Komi being so fresh to the scene made it too hard for him to manage a weekly series' pace?

but that's just musing, DA did appear to have popularity issues too...

or constantly late deliveries to the printers....... more likely the former but hey let's all dream

I think it was Kubo himself who admitted that ZP was ended due to his own mental state, so unless we get a statement like that from Komi-sensei (and I mean Komi himself and not some guy on 2ch:XD), it's probably best not to speculate too much in this direction.

It certainly didn't seem like Komi himself got tired of it. The chapters leading up to the final chapter definitely had an intent to continue in them, and the few pages addressing the series' premature end felt jammed in. The way he chose to end it though, by giving away the ultimate ending of the series.... it makes me think that he won't be picking it up again. I would love to be proved wrong though.

...god, this series would have been SO much better suited for JSQ. god damn it, Jump.

i've never read ZP, so i know nothing about it... but that doesnt seem like komi to have that issue then go and do a onshot for JSQ, and yet another in Jump... so i'm pretty sure that's not the case...

yeah all the way up to the very ending Komi keeps drawing as though it never was going to end, then at the end he really did try to pack as much in as possible without giving too much away, and also hinting at a possible picking up of the story. but that has yet to be seen, and probably unlikely unless he picks it up within another jump magazine like JSQ... but we'll see.

no true DA fan could have said it better..lol
