Its called Milf Effect, unless Mother is "Obviously smaller" (loli mamas), she will always seem more well endowed and taller, even if she is technically same (Or close) as her daughter.

I think they are similar in the manga? Erza is also an adult, and she's normal FT girl (big-boobed, curved). It's just Irene has longer, thicker hair than Erza
