Yeah and i think Mashima himself also likes his own Rave characters too. I am in the middle of reading Rave now, i am actually suprise of how many characters design are literary taken out from Rave and transfer to Fairy Tail. And it is really incredible to witness how Haru's face changes throughout the volume... becoming more like Natsu like lol. I read FT first then Rave so i feel weird >.<

Sieghart <3 now i know why Rave fans are so crazy about him.

I don't think it is unusual that mashima's current characters look like a bunch of his previous ones, that is something manu mangaka's tend to do.

Just compare yuyuhakusho and hunterhunter. Some characters are esentially clones of yusuke, hiei, kurama and kuwabara.

Inuyasha and ranme 1/2. Yet another group of clones.

Compare hellsing and drifters.

I guess once mangakas get a group of well liked characters, they stick to their designs for future mangas.

It's also not unusual for old characters to make appearance in newer works of the same artist. I saw the same thing in other animes, mangas and video games. Mashima must really love the Rave characters as there are so many cameos of them, and I noticed just one of another work of his (Monster Soul).

On the same note, there was a cameo of those 3 jiggly-butt brothers from Rave in one episode of the anime GetBackers, though I dont think Mashima had anything to do with that anime...

This is something I posted in the chapter discussion thread but given that it is kinda important I will also post it here. Too bad, I really wanted rave and FT to take place in the same world..... The truth makes it less fun to look for old characters.....

I wonder.... if there is a water DS, would it actually be any different from jubia?

If there is a water DS, it will has the same element power with Juvia but different syle of magic. He/she will has to drink water to power up lol.

Oh and at ch 144 front page. We see Wendy's profile, and she is 12 >.< it defeats the theory about DS are above 80 years old age. (i probably supposed to post it in DS thread... oh well)

Yeah the magic style should be different. It's like Wendy is an air DS and her power isnt like Ren/Aria/Eligor.

I guess Natsu and Gazeel's ages were shown as unkown because Mashima didnt want us to know them before the Fantasia arc. If we knew how old they are we wouldnt have wondered so much about it. So they might be statues after all...

So what kind of angle could mashima take with water? making it a purely offensive thing would result in exactly jubia, so I doubt it will happen. Water usually represents life and stuff, so it can go along with healing but since wendy is already doing that, I doubt it will happen. Is there any particular property water is attributed in other cultures? Maybe mashima could based a water DS on that.

when i think of mages, i think of fairy tail and harry potter
it would be cool if they could use magics like accio (the summon spell), the unforgivable curses (torture, control, and Instant-death), and have magical beasts like unicorns and banshees

Snake-unrelated poison magic would be cool. That and more illusions. Mistgun is the only character so far who uses those.

And of the magic so far, I like Lucy's best. Summonig Stellar Spirits may not be the strongest form of magic displayed so far in this manga, but it sure looks fun (And hey, it will eventually get strong).

I've noticed the similar styles of the artist of FT and the one of One piece. They just look so similar(Lucy = nami , natsu = luffy) in terms of design features and artistic styling. I thought it was the same artist until I looked it up.

I've never read rave, but I think I will .

@Ichiro Suzuki, you must read Rave, the first few volume is so so, but at later on is getting better, if you can pass vol12 then you are set lol. But i must say the story is kinda set and a bit dramatic? at the end. But it is a happy ending

Well i know from the start they are 2 different author. It just that i was also see a lot of art similarity between OP and FT, but if you read Rave, you will notice how Mashima's art changes from his earlier Rave vol to up around vol 20 and above. So when he started FT, his art has improved a lot. The more you read FT you will find they are actually quiet different style between OP and FT.

People often comparing, or says like Mashima uses Oda's style, heck i mean have they read shoujo manga. I mean... all the characters on manga are essentially the same (except notable shoujo mangaka)

Actually I like this manga because it reminds me a bit of One Piece. But Fairy Tail is a fantastic manga in its own right. I think Mashima is a great mangaka.

Eh? Nope, I remember it pretty clearly I've read it somewhere that both mangaka are just big fans of Toriyama. Mashima has never worked as an assistant to anyone though (while Oda was one of the assistants of the great creator of Ruronin Kenshin, Nobuhiro Watsuki-sensei).

But yeah, Fairy Tail's arts honestly recalled me of One Piece at the first glance (especially how the facial components and the bodies of the characters are drawn). It strikes me as the artist might be a fan of One Piece arts too for some reason

Fairy Tail's art struck me as One Piece at first too. I was a little confused and was tried to find out if it came from One Piece. I only found out a month after I started reading Fairy Tail that it was from the creator of Rave Master.
