Grimoire is a pretty common name for spell books, it's used quite a lot in video games. It makes sense for a mage guild name.

Layla, on the other hand is a personal name, and it doesn't mean anything. Artist probably doesn't pick random names for his characters, but that doesn't mean that "Layla" is in fact a code for something. Why her name specifically?

Well i for one am pretty sure that lucy's mother will have some sort of connection. 'Dying' on the same day as to that on dragons disappearing at least ensures that much.

Layla is known from a ancient story Layla and Majnun

Its a love story about a man who is of a lower class falling in love with this upper class girl named Layla.

Seeing as Lalya is a shadowy character and her suspicious death im wondering if its linked somehow to this. Particulary the Indian version of the story.

Another variation on the tale tells of Layla and Majnun meeting in school. Majnun fell in love with Layla and was captivated by her. The school master would beat Majnun for paying attention to Layla instead of his school work. However, upon some sort of magic, whenever Majnun was beaten, Layla would bleed for his wounds. Word reached their households and their families feuded. Separated at childhood, Layla and Majnun met again in their youth. Layla's brother, Tabrez, would not let Layla shame the family name by marrying Majnun. Tabrez and Majnun quarreled; stricken with madness over Layla, Majnun murdered Tabrez. Word reached the village and Majnun was arrested. He was sentenced to be stoned to death by the villagers. Layla could not bear it and agreed to marry another man if Majnun would be kept safe from harm in exile. Layla got married but her heart longed for Majnun. Hearing this, Layla's husband rode with his men to the desert towards Majnun. He challenged Majnun to the death. It is said that the instant Layla's husband's sword pierced Majnun's heart, Layla collapsed in her home. Layla and Majnun were said to be buried next to each other as her husband and their fathers prayed to their afterlife. Myth has it, Layla and Majnun met again in heaven, where they loved forever.

So actualy Majnun and Laylas lifeforce were linked, thus when Majnun got killed she died too. Im not saying the Layla in this story has anything to do with the lovestory (or maybe it does). But what if 1 of the dragons was linked to Layla's life sharing life. So when the dragon went she went too?

Has anyone got FT chapters 193-198 from mangastream??? I'm missing a few from my archives and many links I find are dead...

^Try manga gamestotal. They might still have them but I can't really be sure...

Mangastream only archives the past 4 or so chapters and then they delete them. It is a loop-hole so to speak, that kinda protects them against the angry Japanese manga publishers.

Try mangafox.com... they seem to have a good collection of manga.

Weak characters

After 25 volumes, we've got characters like natsu that is very weak and erza that is useless...
Natsu:
- lost with urrutia trasformed in that old man
- won against gazelle thatnks to lucy
- won againts luxus because he used fairy law and used lots of energy
- won against cobra thanks to lucky/igneel or whatever
- won against zero thanks to gerard...
Ain't he able to win a battle without helps?
Erza:
- in phantom lord arcs she was useless
- in luxus arc she just won against evergreen (almost useless again)
- in os arc she was sleeping 2/3 of the arc
- in edoras arc she beat edoras erza but she was KO after the fight
In every arc she just beat only a enemy and then stop...

I mean, I thought you might be just biased against character growth until I read: "- in phantom lord arcs she was useless" and then I realised: "oh, he's trolling."

That or you missed the part where Erza was able to hold her own against Jose and defeat one of the four...guys...whatever their title was.

If you're not trolling, love to hear a little more description and reasoning because I can't agree with any of your lines...at all...

I can understand when people say that Lucy or Kana are weak or Elfman, but no way Natsu or Elza are weak. Natsu is a bit dumb and also he isn't studing and just learning from the spot during the fight, but he is one of the strongest members of Fairy Tail. I can't say anything more about Elza, cause for now she is among three strongest FT members with exeption of Makarov, hence she isn't weak.

You forget the part where she took a direct hit from the jupiter canon, and that the fight with Jose would have been better if she wasnt so far depleted.
Also in the Luxus arc she took out half the orbs leaving the rest to teh rest of the guild.
In the Tower arc she wacked one of the elites they faced alone. Owl guy was done by Natsu+Gray, Metal idiot by Lucy+Lluvia.

Natsu is a tad lucky/stupid/ignorant has a heart of gold and easy moodswings. But thats what makes him likable or else i sugest reading *Journey to the West* typ stories isnt something for you < Medieval classic story.

I have been thinking about the balam alliance recently. As it was revealed a while ago, it is not an alliance per say but rather a non aggression pact between major guilds. Why would this 3 guilds need such a thing? Does it make sense for them to randomly attack each other considering that at least oracion 6 and grimmoire heart have extremely specific objectives? There is enough reason to belief zeref and nirvana are somewhat related so perhaps it is because of this in particular they made such a pact? Given the common elements they saw in their plans they decided to simply set a number of rules so as to not really hurt each other. This said, if oracion 6 and grimmoire heart had objectives which had some common history behind them then perhaps the same will happen for tartarus, the last guild to be revealed. Basically, whatever tartarus is planning is related to the past, in particular to the time of zeref. This would perhaps explain why raven tail, being seemingly so powerful, is not a part of the pact. Raven tail's objective has perhaps no common ground with what oracion 6, grimmoire heart and tartarus wants to achieve.

Another thing, why did gerard only remember nirvana and erza back in the oracion 6 arc? It is perhaps a tad convenient that he would remember just what he needed in order for him to release nirvana. I wonder if he actually was manipulated once again by grimmoire heart (urtear) indirectly so that he would put an end to nirvana once and for all? Perhaps this had something to do with one of the keys hades needed to release zeref or whatnot. It would make sense specially if nirvana was actually used against good old zeref. This would in turn mean that grimmoire heart actually broke the non aggression pact in a way and manipulated the oracion 6.

In here the flute which supposedly belonged to zeref makes an interesting remark: I am going to eat your souls. Perhaps it is a reference to the predator of death thing we saw earlier? Perhaps the ability zeref has is to eat souls themselves and through the souls he devours he creates creatures such as deliora or the flute.

when natsu eats something like the flame of rebuke Gerrard gave him or that aether ion were those permanent Power ups? I find it kind of confusing because it doesn't seem like he is developing new spells or dragon slayer abilities. I am new to FT and some clarification would be nice

Nope, his powerups from eating fire are generally temporary.

I was rereading manga not long ago and watched anime. There wasn't a single reference to that :/

The anime made a pretty big deal about the oracion 6 members being recruited from the tower of paradise some time ago. Now, is that considered cannonical in the manga or is it just an anime thing? I have been wondering about that for a while now.

I don't recall there ever being a connection to the Tower of Paradise and the O6 members... as far as the manga is concerned.

The only connection is that Brain taught Gerald his magic.

Well, the manga suggested that brain taught gerard some stuff while he was a member of the council but I would not be too sure as to exactly how much gerard learned from blaine. The anime did exagerate that a great deal but the manga did not mention that much. I got the impression gerard learned his own magic the same way erza did, it just came to him so to speak.

It was mentioned in one of the Q&A sections. Volume 19 I think. So, yeah, it's canonical that the Oricon Seis members were from the Tower of Paradise, and that Midnight isn't a blood relative of Brain's.
