I would be very surprised if Fairy Tail doesn’t end up being Mashima’s magnum opus by the end of his career. While he’s a very talented artist and creates some very compelling characters, I think as a storyteller he’s quite mediocre - it’s been the same story throughout Fairy Tail, the initial idea/ creativity is there, but he never develops things to their potential, and so a lot of plots fizzle out or come off half baked. I would be interested to see whether Ueda could breathe some fresh verve into 100YQ if he (she? they?) took over the writing and storyboarding wholesale, but I wouldn’t like to see a botched or premature transition that brings the story to an early close/ cancellation. One thing I will say is FT 100YQ has only gotten better as it’s gone on, gold owl stuff is the most interesting thing to have happened so far, while EZ has just been up and down throughout. It’s difficult to see him hitting that magic formula to create something with as much market penetration as Fairy Tail a second time, particularly when EZ had a lot of the same ingredients but just hasn’t come out quite the same. Could be wrong, maybe he’ll be an exception to the rule and create two separate top 10 series, but I have my doubts until I see it.
I think I didn't explain myself well. I wasn't implying that Mashima is upset that Ueda is stealing his spotlight, quite the opposite, Mashima seems to want Ueda to take over and he wasn't the one who asked to be the writer for the sequel. If he didn't leave it's not because he's opposing but because he was asked to help, it's not fair to compare him to a small child that sees his old toy being used when he didn't plan to be involved although he already knew about the sequel being planned.
The way he talks it seems that he wants 100YQ to be Ueda's project not his, which is fair because it originally was supposed to be just Ueda. I still have been enjoying quite a few things about 100YQ (and liking others less at the same time), in reality we don't really know how the series would be without Mashima at this point, the only way to find out is for it to really happen (Fairy Tail also always had the characters and their interactions going for it so art is not the only thing Mashima contributes to the manga).
Also Mashima always pilled up extra projects even before EZ, when he was making FT, it's not surprising he continues to do that. Some of the projects he was involved since EZ also included the FT ip. About the new series, it's obvious that he wasn't going to focus on 100YQ after EZ ended, he likes to draw and Ueda is already drawing 100YQ, the only option would be to kick him out and that would be both mean and unfair (there could be some type of agreement but I wouldn't bet on that).
Not saying it isn't ok to be frustrated with the state of the manga but I don't believe Mashima is simply ***ting on it. Kodansha, on the other hand has been doing the bare minimum in a lot of fronts since the original series.
I don't think this sequel is very planned, maybe until the Aldo arc, but since then each arc is worse than the last, you only need to see the Elentir and Dogra arcs to notice it.
It doesn't matter, if it's Mashima or Ueda who is in charge, I just want more attention to be paid to the series, the writing is lousy, the broadcast every 2 weeks doesn't help either, the series has potential, but it seems that nobody wants to take advantage of it, Mashima had a chance for more than 15 years and he never took full advantage of his series, okay, I'm not saying he's leaving, he has a second chance with this sequel but he doesn't seem to want to go further and exploit that potential either, maybe Ueda will do better , or some other mangaka, who knows, I just want the series to improve and for now with Mashima we haven't seen anything decent on YQ100.
Not in the same amount that he has at the moment, that Mashima is more aware of other projects than the sequel to his biggest series, it's sad, at the end of all it's his most emblematic series and he treats it like garbage, I even think that he is more involved in the original anime that is coming out soon than he is in YQ100. He could take YQ100 as a priority and let Ueda handle the new series and have it air on a monthly basis, just like the Kakkou no iinazuke mangaka does (So Ueda could accumulate more presence in a main magazine)
We are talking about Mashima, surely he is one of the most influential and renowned mangakas in Kodansha, he could change the status of the series if he wanted, the fact that YQ100 is issued in an application and not in a main magazine and biweekly is something of him, surely if he asked to Kodansha for the series on a weekly basis and for the main magazine, Kodansha would say yes

Is the new arc interesting? Yes, but it's almost always the same with each FT arc, it starts off interesting, but as the chapters go by that interest fades and the arc ends like all the others. Maybe if Ueda is the one writing the arc, I can be a bit more optimistic, but for now it looks like Mashima is the one writing this...

Hiro dont gives a shit about Fairy Tail.Thats just the reality.
He makes stuff on the fly whatever fits for him.The Labyrinth Arc was full of shit Hiro pulled out of his ass.
The whole Selene and Serena disaster were the worst.Imagine you forgot that you confirmed GS was dead and then jsut bring him back by claiming "well,i was not dead"
.Then he retconned that a bunch of chapters later because he realized that he fucked up.GS got twice retconned in a rly short time

Hiro may write a lot of dumb **** (Dogra cores :\) but I doubt Serena being dead and revived by alchemy was a retcon. I mean, even before they've said anything about that I thought it was super obvious with him being tied with an alchemy guild.

No he is right. I like the character of God Serena but he was clearly brought back because fans were disappointed by his One Shot at Alvarez. The fact that he is related to Gold Owl is completely made up at the time. It's not even the real GS, just a copy by alchemy.

Well I agree that part is a retcon, just not the fact that he actually died and was revived by alchemy, it's pretty easy to do a plot involving alchemy with revived (or "revived" depending on how you want to look at this), characters after all.
I don't believe Mashima realized after the chapter that GS being alive didn't make sense and decided in the alchemy explanation as a copout a few chapters later. Is just not that hard of a plot to come up with.
If his connection with Gold Owl was mentioned only after, I might've entertained the double retcon theory.
Is it a fact? Or is that only a theory? Because I don't remember that it was said. Isn't that the real GS who was revived via alchemy? So far I thought that he was revived via alchemy and with that he is indeed the true GS and not a copy.

Him being linked to Gold Owl is a fact since he was collecting materials for them, him being a copy idk. The body is probably the original body and they talked about reviving people via alchemy, what I'm not certain is if that's GS or a GS like individual that was made using the body and possesses the memories and powers of the original (he thinks he survived, so he doesn't know much about himself. He can be a existence like the historias).

It doesn't matter how many of them are there, the more ds are there to help, why not? Why not use it this time? Especially if Ignia really has a dragon army.
Irene could have helped too but Hiro decided to kill her instead....a really bad decision imo....

So far we don't know if Ignia has an army or not, there are already too many dragon slayers available to fight against Ignia and his possible army (Natsu, wendy, gajeel, laxus, sting, rogue, Diabolos, Cobra, elfseria) additionally, we have to Selene and Merc surely willing to fight with FT against Ignia, not to mention that wendy can grant dragon slayer magic attributes to other people. The inclusion of Serena against Ignia is not necessary.
