Got stuck at 45.... 12500 grains...:notrust IS MY VOCABULARY LIMITED TO female donkeys being called Jennys and variations of the word NONSENSE?!? Gahh!!!
EDIT: Oh yeah, I did this with no dictionaries as well... if you play long enough, you'll end up with repeated questions over time so I didn't really bother opening a dictionary.:p

Got to lv 46 w/o a dictionary, 2600 grains of rice.

Finally made it to level 50, but it took me 25000 grains.

I'm as good at level 35 (my best one) as for level 7 (the one i'm currently playing <_<) without dictionnary ; It's quite fun to learn new words this way (and i discovered that english language used more french words than i thought, especially scientific ones : iterate for exemple : I just learned the word "itératif" last year in school ! o_o ) I succeeded in some questions in every level by looking at the ethymology of each word, but it's still quite difficult xD I don't think I will be able to reach again the 35th level, but it doesn't matter :]
Thanks for giving us the link :)

yeah, my brother pointed this out to me, lots of fun. Though at the upper 40's you start getting a lot of other languages thrown in the mix.

Manged to get to 50 a couple times, though I usually sit at around 47-48

My best score (as a Dutch person with limited time) is 19.
I'll do it again later, and hope for a better score :).

Great idea this is!!

unfortunately, 2600 grains is probably just for 1 person, not 26.

For every 100 grains you secure on meal for someone.
with all due respect, 100 grains of rice does not equal 1 meal. It's probably 2 spoonfuls of rice...that's hardly a meal.

And I'm not trying to cause any trouble here...just wanted to clarify this for everyone...

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture/U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1/2 cup of cooked rice counts as one serving (one serving = 1 meal).

source: http://www.familyeducation.com/article/0,1120,1-32565,00.html

To put this all in perspective, how many grains of rice are in a cup?

the estimate amount of grains of rice in one cup is approximately 7,200 grains.

source: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_grains_of_rice_are_in_one_cup

so if we try to get 12 vocabs correctly under 1 minute, and for 30 minutes of playing time we should all earn a cup of rice, if you do the math correctly that all adds up.

so let's aim higher! ;)

Whoa, I see the site gets more and more popular everyday - when i visited it last time, it was "only" 10 grains per word.. That's good :)

Miyi we or you got something wrong here. First of all what they say might be accurate since they might be able to give only 1000 grains per person. the fact that someone can get satisfied with a cup full of rice doesn't mean that they can give that much to everyone :amuse well at least that is my idea of how this thing works.

I think you may have mistyped......100 grains or 1000 grains?

and also, there's no mention of how they'll distribute the rice, in terms of quantity/portion per recipient.

But if what you meant is 1000 grains, then I suppose that will feed 1 person....but still, this is not a healthy portion....the suggested serving per person is 1/2 cup, which is about 3600 grains.

but I guess 1000 grains isn't so bad :D

indeed i did mistyped..... typos still follow me around i see >.>
anyway, what i want to say is, at the site it self "says" it has two goals. one is to expand someone's vocabulary and the other to end help end world hunger. either of the two is true or not i do not know that, what we know for this site is what they tell us. it is up to each and every one of us to believe that or not. i understand your suspicion yet i do not see the reason. there are no personal info needed to use the site, nor any weird messages appearing out of nowhere saying "CONGRATS YOU HAVE WON THIS AND THAT IF YOUR SURNAME's FIRST LETTER IS BETWEEN A AND Z" (yes i have seen such a mesage >_>)
sooo are you worried if they are feeding people with only 100 grains per person or just worried about something i haven't found out yet?

you're getting the wrong idea.

I support the cause, I like the whole concept/idea.

but you made a typo that is pretty significant, and I needed to point that out.

imagine, if all it takes to feed a person is to answer 5 vocabs (100 grains), then that would be too good to be true.

that's like less than a minute for an average English speaker.

it's misleading, is all I am saying.

i see that you do support the cause by just watching your sig and i applaud that
but you are still over-reacting about this whole matter :o

Oh woops might have read something wrong....

they say might be accurate since they might be able to give only 1000 grains per person. .
Oh well helping 2 people is still good ^^ The thought is what counts.

miyi, if you are interested in the details of who gets what and how, check out the faq. It gives a pretty good run down of how it works, and if you follow the links from there to the partners' sites, you can get even more detailed info.

Happy clicking^^
