After Nishinoya saves the ball by literally a hand, it goes to Koushi who prepares to set it. Just that he doesn't know who to. Kageyama eggs him to try it again with Asahi, try until it works. Asahi eventually stops being emo and remembers that he's not 'fighting the battle by himself', he has his team mates. He jumps, spikes, and succeeds. Hinata gets excited seeing the spike and exclaims "next it's his time to shine".

And shine he does. Ukai, Nishinoya, and Asahi stare in awe when Hinata and Kageyama do one of their 'nonchalant set and spike' (ie: when Kageyama passes it to Hinata to spike without either of them having to make eye contact or make a sound). Asahi gets even more impressed when Hinata jumps up to block him, right in his face before he's even touch the ball. He "blocks it", but being an amateur it rebounds off his hand and goes out. Hinata is so impressed at the strength that he later spaces out and in a moment of envy ends up getting smacked in the head by one of Asahi's spikes.

After getting up and reassuring he's fine, he notices Kageyama glaring at him (the same as that time he smacked the ball at the back of his head). Kageyama surmises he knows what he's thinking. As well as excited to finally see the team's Ace, he's also jealous and envious. Because he's "just a decoy" in comparison. Hinata retorts even if it's true there's nothing wrong with that and an egotistical person like him wouldn't understand.

The heated situation between the two gets interrupted by the janitor who comes to lock up the gym, but is persuaded by their manager to give them more time and he'll lock up afterwards.

The game continues on to the 2nd set, and Kageyama requests that the next time he passes to that bastard, he wants the senpais to block him with all their strength. After mockingly saying Hinata only has a bit of speed and a quick bounce in his feet he has no skills at all, but as long as he's [Kageyama] there he [Hinata] will be strong, he later shows to Hinata that the 1 point gained by the Ace and the 1 point gained by "just this decoy" is no different at all.

Will spoil Ch 24: "Karasuno, Time to Take Action" and the latest Ch 25: "Meeting" later. It's when the plot starts moving again and the good bit begins. : D
Thanks Knifeshade, been waiting for your translation.
Keep up the good work (^_^)

Cheers.

The spoiler fairy strikes again.

Continuing from the last chapter, we see Ukai wonder if Hinata and Kageyama have known each other since little to have such amazing synchro. Manager (I keep forgetting his name...) replies no, they pretty much just met when they got here.

Shimada from the neigborhood association is up to serve and he shows a few tricks by doing float serves. The other team can't seem to receive it at all and quickly get two points to reach Match Point. Shimada does another floater thinking he'll wrap it up all the way, but Daichi manages to recieve it and Kageyama follows up. Asahi and another blocker has their eyes on Hinata, but it's just a decoy and he tosses to Tanaka.

But Tanaka's spike gets caught by Nishinoya's defense. The ball goes to Suga who tosses to Asahi and he spikes it through the blockers allowing the Karasuno+Senpai Team to win the match 2-0. Before everybody packs up and leaves, Ukai reiterates their main problem is still recieving and they'll need to work at it if they want to get anywhere, and we see Asahi exchanges a few encouraging words with Hinata. We also see coach Ukai look a little unnerving with line-up selections (but I only knew that from reading Chapter 26).

They're shown to be training in the last few days up until Golden Week. The last page shows Nekoma departing.

At the start of the chapter we get a brief history of the relation behind Nekoma and Karasuno.

The old coaches of "Cats" and "Crow" always seem to hope for a match between the two on the national stage. But that dream has never come to fruition, with both of them not making it past the prefecture tournaments in the first year and while they made it through in the year after, Karasuno got eliminated in the third round whilst Nekoma was elimimated in the quarter-finals (while waiting for Karasuno).

On the first day of camp, Ukai briefs the players that after their practice match with Nekoma will be the start of the prefecture tournaments to see who gets selected to play in the nationals. Their key to winning will be one thing....practice, practice, and practice. To practice until they cough up blood.

On the first night of camp, we get a "Himekawa-scene" with Nishinoya. Hinata doesn't recognize him when his hair is wet and not styled and thought he was a ghost.

The next day while doing a team run, Hinata ends up lost from the others because he ran ahead too far and didn't see where he was running. He sees a guy sitting on the corner looking spaced out and goes over to talk to him. We find out this guy is the setter for Nekoma. And he's short. Before he blurps out what high school he's from, his team mate finds him (he was lost as well) and they leave. But not without saying "See you next time, Shouyo-kun" which leaves Hinata confused to why he said that.

On the last page, we see Nekoma about to have a practice match with another high school, as well as briefly showing Nekoma's team captain. (they have a few matches before theirs with Karasuno)

I didn't follow this series from the begining, since Jump has had many crapy sports manga recently and I wasn't expecting much from it, but finally we get a quality sports manga which is realistic, has good humour and isn't just about the sports itself, but instead has a nice character development, which is its strongest point for me. Its story reminds me a bit of Eyeshield 21. The special art also works well, it's good to have a bit of change, which is why I think Haikyu is definitely one of the most refreshing manga in Jump (it's nice to have different things in sports manga for once). So far it hasn't disappointed me and I hope it keeps being an enjoyable and fun read, and I'm glad it's quite popular in Japan too. Still, I'm worried it might lose it's freshness and become boring if it stays for too long, but I have confidence in it and if the series is managed well it won't happen. Anyway it's very promissing.

I'm really curious about next chapter. If I'm not wrong the very high rank HQ had in the TOC last week should be around this one

If it's the one with the extra pages, it should be Chapter 27 (which was quite humorous). I wouldn't be surprised if it kept it up, seeing how we're going into the actual match now. I'm looking forward to this week's chapter, everything's unpredictable at the moment.

Two chapters in two days and two good chapters with some great character development. You can clearly see that a team spirit is being produced. They look up to each other and each player is strengthening another player.

More please

Holy shht.

I don't care what anybody says, this week's chapter is undoubtedly the best chapter in the series so far. The suspense, action, art, panel layout, and even the amusing ending, was just superb. I'm so glad whoever lost actually lost, was so worried the author was going to do an asspull and do a "nakama power up" thing after seeing last week's cliffhanger. Roll on the next arc~!

For the record...
...Karasuno lost the match with Nekoma, 2-0, (25-22, 25-23).

Well,
considering that it's only a practice match, it's not as if Karasuno has to win. Plus, this just further sets up some later rematch in the Nationals or wherever with Nekoma where Karasuno gets revenge in a dramatic three setter.

Agree, each new chapter, I like this manga more

Hinata's growth might be too late for this game but it will become an asset upcoming games for sure. It allows kageyama to bring more variety in his tosses to Hinata and blockers will take in account Hinata more than before, which will give asahi (?) more freedom.

The art is nice when the mangaka draws the facial details etc

40 chapters in and i am loving every single moment in this manga. i dont know if furudate had any experience in volleyball or did extensive research, but he managed to put a very solid story. he doesnt even go for absurd special attacks. usually the way to go like kurogane or even kuroko.

characters r certainly interesting and also relatable which makes you wonder about them. i am actually w8ing for the reason why tsukishima is the way he is. what happened to him? he has a problem with elites (i will say he is 1 too but...)

art style is also very good. he makes the facial expressions hillarious. also in the matches he goes for the best way to highlight the action.

hopefully he can keep up his stories and we will have another great sports hit on our hands. i was w8ing for this since slam dunk.

well i just read the 41st chapter and i am calling it. Nishinoya is the best character in this manga by far. i liked him since his inception but today with this chapter no1 can come close to him.

It was an okay chapter overall, but I'm loving the pacing of the recent chapters, they all flow nicely together. I hope Ukai/Kageyama's strategy isn't solely "HEY GUYS. LET'S USE HINATA AS BAIT. AGAIN.". Because that turned out great against Nekoma. It's a decent tactic, but it's like a one-trick pony. Furudate doesn't give the other characters their moments either, which is starting to get annoying as shown by Sugawara this chapter, what with always having Kageyama/Hinata to shoulder everything. It's a stark contrast to the teamwork that volleyball seems to revolve around.

I don't believe I spoiled anything. I intentionally spoke ambiguously, any keywords that may seem like spoiler is already made known in the recent scans (e.g: Chapter 30 and Hinata's frustration). I know the majority of readers is behind, so for the most part I was reflecting on how I feel about the current direction of Haikyuu.

But I shall add tags anyway. c:

Sorry I misinterpret the "great against Nekoma" part, then. I thought it was about the issue of the game.

Well since cearon commented on it, who is your favorite character in Hyakku so far ? I have to think about it before answering myself, I don't have a particular one that comes to mind immediately.

@knfishade;

i think there is something going on. and i believe at some point for some reason both yamaguchi and suga will enter. and the ending "3 min before start" is very very suspicious.
