I know you're not trying to convert me. Believe it or not, I can be a good person to have an intelligent convo with.

But to be honest, I'm thinking it's a bad idea to do so for this topic as we have differing ideas and many people here might not really like what one of us has to say. Plus, you see the problem I tend to have in debates like this: I tend to go for annoying the person to see how they react to this or that thread for statistical reasons.

Some things I have said though, I actually believe. Whether it's from jaded point of view, limited point of view, or biased point of view, I do believe in it. There was a time when I didn't care about bloodshed and battle, but now I do, which is why I tend to avoid stuff like this. Believe me when I say it wasn't my intention to create any kind of negativity.

Oh, and if we ever debate again about anything, please try to avoid using smilies when you're being serious. It's why I made that inability to have intelligent comment.... To me, smilies shouldn't be used in serious debates unless things are too tensioned.

Well we are all biased in some way. Our experiences have done that to us in ways we may not ever realize at times. I obviously have religious tendencies as well because I was raised in a house that for the most part supported it. But when it comes to my faith I don't say that I have it because of my house and that its only because of my experience that I have my faith to begin with. Like I said I've had doubts in the past and I've overcome them for the most part through analysis of my self and of the claim of Catholicism. That is also why I do philosophy alongside with my Theology because I like to reason and think in general and it is through my reasoning that I have come to understand God as being something reasonable to believe in and reasonable for actually existing. But thats just to clarify myself a bit more and how I've come to what I believe and where I'm coming from.

Also I used smileys because I was trying to ease the tension because I felt that things were getting too tense. So it wasn't that I was trying to take away from the seriousness of the conversation but that I wanted to lighten the mood a bit because I felt it was getting a bit overboard in the negativity and high tension is all.

If I may ask though, why do you care about bloodshed and battle? Personally I rather discuss and talk then fight and argue .

Oh, I understand. I tend to use smilies and humor for that as well, to kill tension. But with me, unless you've said something bad or did something bad, there's usually no tension. I try not to have it or show it because that's not how I prefer things. I like civilized debates with no namecalling or pettiness. I hate that kind of tension as well, so I try to avoid it and negativity. Plus, I'm biased against the Cookie Monster smiley, at least when we're debating. :\

Believe it or not, while I do dislike religions and such, I still defend it. I see the good that can come from religion, even if I think it has more negative sides to it. It's a shame humans usually debate and discuss in their egocentric, biased view.

I don't care about that. I used to not care about it and even participated in it, but I was idiotic and wanted to look cool or tough or whatever as I thought it'd avoid people from bashing me. I used to get heavily, HEAVILY, bashed long time ago (I was a major major idiot though... if I act now the way I did long time ago, I'd have been banned already, if not severely hated...). Now, I've matured and have different beliefs.

I wonder if you've grown as well during your time on the internet. Many people do grow and mature due to the internet. It's helped me develop quite a bit of sense of humor.

What's the reason with debating if you have the same ideas behind/regarding the subject of discussion. You can have a suberbly interesting and awesome discussion when both sides are completely different if you maintain an intelligent level of argumentation. The reason for debating in this case I believe isn't to try to convert the other person, because that'd be a lost cause, but to make the other person understand and acknowledge it.

I've had a few of those debates; none of which takes less than two hours, and the other persons who just happens to read/hear it are unlucky and nine times out of ten they ignore what's written, I don't believe people will join in saying
"OMFG UR RONG "
Unless it's me. :|

Debate can also be used to convert interested but undecided third parties. Trying to convince the person you are debating to change their position is called preaching.

The problem is, people with severely differing ideas can tend to go a bit less intelligent, depending. I've been in many debates and have seen many debates and have seen how stupid people tend to get after a while. It's one of the reasons why I rarely debate now. Otherwise I enjoy debating, and I only consider it a win if I learn something, especially from the other side. Whenever I have a serious talk with koen, Immi, or even you, I learn new things.

This debate is also about defending what we believe, and I usually try to understand what the other person thinks.

They tend to ignore it or purposely say something off, then others take the bait or choose not to ignore it, and shit happens. *shrugs*

I don't always do that, just sometimes with certain people. It's always good to see how they'll react when in debates.

Nah, I need a break today. I've done WAY too much thinking and discussing for the last few days and I need one breather day. Its good once in a while to shut up and just chillax instead of constantly working and tearing yourself up on the inside thinking of complex matters.

That plus women are bothering me lately so I'm in a bleh mood .
