Gintama. Current arc is better than anything in Hunter x Hunter. Also Desert Punk, Dorohedoro, Claymore, FMA (but you probably read this one), Get Backers, Trigun + Trigun Maximum, Kenji. Shingeki no Kyoujin is not bad so you can also check it out. There are more but read these first and then ask for more.

Read Tower of God. It's awesome. If you're already used to bad drawings thanks to Togashi (:P) you will absolutely enjoy this series.

The Soul Eater manga is very much like Hunter x Hunter. It doesn't take itself as seriously though. And Ohkubo adds in some unnecessary fanservice. But all-in-all, it's pretty great. Read nenena's translations on her blog or the Del Rey translation. It'll make much more sense.

Have you even read current arc? If not you have no basis to say that. And I haven't said that Gintama is a better manga overall, only that current arc is better than anything I've read in any shounen (and I've read many shounens, including old school ones like City Hunter and Ghost Sweeper Mikami which I also recommend). My shounen ranking looks something like this:

At the absolute top are: FMA, Desert Punk, Trigun, Hikaru no Go, Gintama, Detective Conan, GTO, Hunter x Hunter without bugs (hard to decide which is the absolute best)

Slightly or significantly worse but still awesome:
Hunter x Hunter (here if I'm counting shitty bug arc), Cross Game + other Adachi's titles, Claymore (first 13 volumes were superb, later it jumped the shark but still is one of the best shounens), Dragon Ball (after Freezer it jumped the shark), Beck, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, City Hunter, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Ashita no Joe and probably some more old-school titles which I can't recall right now.

Lower are Get Backers, Kenji, Change 123 (the best ecchi title I know).

And lower are the most popular titles (and many of them much lower like One Piece or D.Gray-men for example).

Ok, now I see our difference in taste very clear :P I respect your opinion, but don't share it. Still, is a nice ranking you've there.
And I'm reading Soul Eater as well, but monthly releases makes me forget the story all the time. Happens the same with Ao No Exorcist which I enjoy but I often feel lost.

I recommend Gantz up until the Katastrophe arc. The story involving Izumi and the vampires were the most memorable for me. Berserk is pretty nice if you can handle strong violence and slow chapter releases, but the Golden Age arc is well worth the read. Battle Royale is very entertaining and the manga is fairly faithful to the novel, only 15 volumes long as well. If you like horror, check out Uzumaki, a very scary 3-volume series about spiral curses.

Hmm...not sure if I agree, I don't think the ability system in SE is quite as complex as in HXH. Soul Eater is really entertaining and weird in a good way but I think the story fell apart after the Noah arc (everything before it is pretty good). Now it's this random moon business I'm not enjoying at all. I think Psyren is pretty close to HXH, but it gets a bit generic toward the end (the beginning was really good).

It's a monthly series and has about 80 chapters so far. But is 80 chapters of pure badassery.

I know this could very well be nothing at all, but perhaps Namco Bandai is making an action adventure Hunter X Hunter game? It's a shot in the dark, but I figured maybe someone might have some insight to this? Am I just speculating at random...I just hope it is a hunter game (don't even care what)

Interesting. I always wonder if someone would be able to catch the essence of HxH without ruining it. Power Levels are hard to define, I think it needs Togashi intervention and if that's the case then we will have plenty of answer for many questions.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I guess I'll try some of your recommendations, like Shingeki no Kyojin, Claymore and Gintama.

I've already read Kenji, Dorohedoro (the recent volume) FMA (it's a classic) Vinland Saga. I'm not into Gantz anymore like I used to back then, (Izumi is still dead) and the current arc with the whole Tae-chan....Kei-chan... is pissing me off. Seriously Oku kill Tae off already, I'm sick of her.

Apparently, mangareader have updated another version of chapter 340 with a much better translation.Some of the dialog had a different meaning altogether.

1. In Mangareader's version The ones who go to the Dark Continent are met with a catastrophe, in others' translation humankind will suffer the catastrophe.
2. Here Beyond is saying that humans originally came from the Dark continent, other translations said humans long ago went to the dark continent.

Doesn't make sense to me..

That is the thing with translation though.For one chapter,translator can come up with many different variation of translation.The meaning can get alter really easily with just a different sentence structure.So,now the problem is which meaning is more accurate?
