Re: Hunter x Hunter Hangout Thread
I would question how determination has an effect on specialization nen, specially in kurapica's case.
Of course it's a plausible presumption that Emperor Time is inherited in Kurapica's tribe. But as long as we don't have any hint in this direction, we have to work on the assumption, that this ability comes from Kurapica's hate and determination. Yes, determination. Any Nen/Hatsu is influenced by determination except for the Specialization Hatsu people are born with, like Neon or Alluka.
But first, we don't know, whether all Specialization manifests itself from the moment of birth. For example, Chrolo's Skill Hunter is quite hedged for being an ability, someone could be born with.
Second, Kurapica didn't know anything about Nen at the beginning of Hunter X Hunter. So it's quite unlikely, that he is blessed with one of the most powerful Nen abilities existing without being able to use his Nen.
I do think we have indications that a decent number of people in kurapica's tribe are indeed nen users. [...] IMO the more reasonable assumption is that they were pretty damn strong nen users to explain why the ryodan would have had trouble with them than any vaguely plausible alternative.
Obviously, there were several Nen users (even masters?) among the Kurtas. But a tribe usually doesn't consist of just some people but of several dozens. So saying, all Kurtas have Nen and even more Emperor Time, is plainly unreasonabe.
On the one hand, the Spider wouldn't have won at all. On the other hand, if Nen and Emperor Time is so much embedded in the culture and life of Kurapica's tribe, he would have known about it from the beginning.
So I don't say you're wrong, but as long as we talk about a manga, where we actually can't conclude anything, we have to abide by Ockham's law of parsimony.
