I wouldn't be surprised, but I've also seen anime-only watchers wondering about Gon and Killua.

I'm actually surprised. I wonder if they'll starting faving Kurapika soon as the arc progresses. I mean, that seems like the trend with Yorkshin, right?
I'm thinking so. I mean, Yorkshin arc is Kurapika's arc essentially. It's interesting seeing how anime-only watchers and manga readers choose their main characters. In general, it seems like Killua, Hisoka, Kurapika, and Gon are the clear favorites, and this is for both types of Hunter fans.

When it comes to rabid fangirls, it seems like there's a divide between Killua fangirls and Kurapika fangirls.

There's a poll on MAL asking what everyone's favorite character is. Killua's leading with 33 votes, Hisoka's in second with 30, Kurapika's next with 14, and Gon has 11 votes in fourth place.

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=470071

I'm assuming Kurapika's going to gain more fans when this arc is over.

And then they'll all be sad once he hops on a bus for a while.

People like Kurapika because of Yorknew? He certainly has strength, but there are very few moments that draw me towards him. He gets a slight plus for allowing Gon and Killua to help him out, which was a monumental psychological step for Kurapika. To let others into his life and let these others also put their own lives on the line was something that he simply wouldn't stand for until Gon pleaded to him. But other than that, I feel he's still an archetypal loner.

I'm looking forward way more to his return in the manga, now having redeemed the eyes of his brethren. I want to see if he's even more distant from the group, if what's led him to finding the eyes has made him have an even grimmer look on the world. Or, if this allowed his burdened to be lifted, and he's now the Kurapika that Furuhashi tried to produce in his HxH 99, a Kurapika who smiles. However, by the look of Kurapika's face in his last appearance, I doubt this is so.

Considering how he's been ignoring Leorio's phone calls and didn't even visit Gon in the hospital, I'm guessing he's more distant from the group. He didn't seem that friendly with Killua over the phone when he asked about Kuroro in Greed Island (though he could have been stressed from dealing with the Nostrade family). I'm thinking he's gone further down the rabbit hole, but we'll see what happens. I hope the group can make him snap out of whatever zone he's in and get him back to the way he was during the Hunter Exam. I'd like to see a Kurapika who's gone through a lot and is able to come to terms with what has happened.

On that note, Yorkshin arc had the opposite effect on me in terms of Kurapika. I liked him during the Hunter Exam, but I thought he was kinda a jerk in Yorkshin. That's just my impression of him, though.

Him going out of his way to save Gon and Killua during the end did score points with me, though.

I don't think it's so much people don't like Kurapika but more that Gon and Killua bring a certain energy to the show that's not there so much when they're absent.

Well, that's what I've been noticing. To me it seems like Yorkshin draws the Kurapika fans in. Or at least that's the arc that draws more HxH fans, and it also happens to be the arc Kurapika stars in. Hence why people will notice him more. I could be wrong though.

For me, it was less that I disliked him and more that I got... tired of him? I don't know how to explain it. I like him enough, but his character drains me.

Which is why I didn't mind having him on a bus afterwards.

Though it's also interesting to note that Madhouse is fond with the current character favorites: Gon, Killua, and Hisoka. Their characterizations have been amazing thus far, and Madhouse clearly cares about them. So that could also be a factor as to why I am seeing less than expected people being drawn to Kurapika in this arc, especially since people are questioning how he has been presented.

That, or maybe I was expecting too much. Lol.

I think that's why it's a good thing to have Gon and Killua in this arc to balance it out.

It's simple.A character becomes more popular when he draws attention,Kurapika becomes more popular during YS arc because of this. But in Japanese polls,he was 2nd even before Celestial Tower arc and he is still 2nd.The top 3 has always been constant(Killua-Kurapika-Gon),I guess it will change with the appearance of new badass characters and Leorio's comeback.

I am pretty sure Pariston and Ging are at least in the top 10 actually:hee.

The pacing is almost clear for me.
The next episode will cover almost two chapters I think. Uvo looks for Kurapika, Gon&co look for money =D It should end with Kurapika meeting Uvo.
Then the episode after that is almost three chapters, 'cause ch.81 is short and ch.83 is mostly covered. It starts with Gon&co looking for GR and then the most of Kurapika vs Uvo. It should end with Emperor time, and I think the flashback will be covered.
Then it's the end of Kurapika vs Uvo and the continuation of the Gon's journey. They could include the fb in this ep maybe. I think it would be great to end it with this shot http://i6.mangareader.net/hunter-x-hunter/85/hunter-x-hunter-1649806.jpg transiting into this scene http://i17.mangareader.net/hunter-x-hunter/84/hunter-x-hunter-1649792.jpg

About the characters, I agree with those saying that Kurapika became a jerk starting from YS. And yeah, I love MH's characterization of Gon, Killua and Hisoka. And that's perfect as I've always seen those three as the most crucial characters.

Ahhhh. I forgot about the manga polls. Hisoka always ended up in 4th or 5th place, right? Now it seems like he's one of the more popular HxH characters.

Though this could be due to him in GI, which I don't think there was a poll for that one.

I think I remember Killua had the top votes with 13,000+, then Kurapika wasn't too far behind with his own 13,000+ votes. And then there was a large gap between him and Gon and Leorio was 4th or 5th somewhere. I don't have to time to dig up the pages at the moment.

This is based on my observations, but I think MH is adding their own charm to the mix to bring out Hisoka's personality, and I think that's drawing more fans to him. For myself, I've always been a Hisoka fan, but I after watching MH's portrayal of him, he instantly shot up to 2nd place in my list (oh trust me, he was at least top 5 to begin with).

As far as Gon and Killua's appearances in YS. When Kurapika's there it's darkness. I mean, he's rarely ever happy (understandable), the GR are going on killing sprees and stealing stuff. Then when you get to Gon and Killua, things become brighter and more light hearted. I think this balances out nicely.

I've always seen it as this:

Gon = protagonist
Killua = deuteragonist
Hisoka = recurring antagonist

The first character poll (chapter 56, the mid-Heavens' Arena) had Hisoka in 4th place with 1498 votes. That's understandable as this part of plot is focused on Gon&Hisoka. Tho I don't get why was Kurapika already so popular, even tho he didn't have that much of a role before the YS. http://hunterxhunter.wikia.com/wiki/First_character_popularity_poll
The second one was around the end of volume 12 (near the end of Yorkshin) and had Hisoka in 5th place right after Chrollo (1144 and 1904 votes respectively). Well, Danchou is a very interesting character indeed (tho I like Hisoka slightly better =D) http://hunterxhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Second_character_popularity_poll
Then the third one (the 2004 HxH databook, not sure what arc is it, but King's guards are included already, so I guess around the Palace Invasion) with Hisoka having less and less screentime had him in 7th place with only 936 votes =O That was the first time Leorio'd overtaken him, he was always right after Hisoka. http://hunterxhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Third_character_popularity_poll

Hisoka was and will always be my favourite HxH character (well, only Pariston is somewhere near). And I totally love how MH is presenting him. I can't even call him an antagonist as he is not so much of an enemy for protagonists, more of a friendly rival. And he even helps them quite often. That ambiguity is one of the reasons I love him so much.

Think of it like this, Gon and Killua are the characters that are in every single arc. With Hisoka being the character in the most arcs besides them (he is in every arc except Chimera Ants).

I don't think it's so much that Kurapika is a jerk, more that he is torn between two versions of himself. Yet another Light and Shadow theme. Gon and Killua also respectively have their own Light and Shadow themes. Kurapika is more shadow this arc though. I think it was necessary though for Togashi to
Put Kurapika on a bus after York New. Because we had seen everything possibly viable to tell with the character at this point in time. Togashi needed to give us a break from him and also to progress Kurapika's story off screen (collecting the eyes of his clan) in order to be able to have a point to jump off when he picks Kurapika's story back up.
I however wish it wasn't necessary for Togashi to
Put Leorio on a bus as well. He needs more time to shine. Atleast he got to punch Ging in the face. I hope that Leorio gets more involves sooner rather than later.

Also speaking of the recent events in the manga, am I the only one who wishes that Hisoka and Pariston would meet? Of all characters that I want to see interact it is them two. Hisoka has always been an interesting POV to see other characters through, I'd love to see how he percieves Pariston and how he would interact with him. Oh and he must meet Ging as well. I see Pariston and Hisoka having a lot in common, while Hisoka loves to fight strong opponents, Pariston loves to troll intelligent opponents.

One last thing:
I also wish that we got to see Hisoka's thoughts on Netero's death. We know that Hisoka one day wanted to fight Netero, but knew he was not yet strong enough to. I wonder whether Hisoka is sad that Netero died like Pariston was.

THAT POLL.... Where Killua is always number 1 and Kurapika is always number were WSJ polls. Meaning they only ask the readers of WSJ. Not everyone can vote there. Sometimes the magazine has conditions like, putting your receipt and one vote etc...

You know Madhouse has been doing great with the violence. But it disappoints me it wasn't this way in episode 5

That said. If Madhouse decided to do something like have a bunch of thugs attack Hisoka during the requiem and the obvious happens...

Would you guys mind that? Because I would actually be very happy with it. It might slow down the pacing and would be technically filler.

But it would be Hisoka goodness filler. Hell I will not mind AT ALL if we got a little bit extra of all the Phantom Troupe. Just don't spoil their abilities.
Meaning the ones later seen in the Chimera Ant Arc

Maybe Episode 5 is still too early. Madhouse may still be testing the waters a bit then, seeing how far they can censor stuff.

But more importantly, I think it works because, for me, HxH is a deceptive manga. It seems like it would be kid-friendly at the beginning, until Hisoka suddenly rips a guy's head off in the Hunter Exam. I kind of appreciate how the violence is slowly, but surely, building up. Like, HxH always had dark undertones, but it only becomes gradually obvious as each arc progresses.

For example, Hisoka cutting his own arm and telling riddles is a different level of crazy from Hisoka cutting a guy's head off. (But maybe that's just me).

Although MH may have cut back some of the backlash during the earlier episodes had they upped the violence since the beginning.

I don't mind fillers of any kind, since MH is doing a good job with them.

I do think that Madhouse could have been testing the waters then.
and I understand episode 5 may have been too early and risky to
have the uncensored Hisoka slaughter. But that all said...

Yorknew arc provides the perfect opportunity to do a sorta "ode" to
the slaughter scene in the manga. I mean Hisoka is implied to have fought
during that part of Yorknew as the rest of the Troupe was doing. But you
don't actually see a lot of it. Well I wouldn't mind seeing more especially
if they had a Yorknew Hisoka slaughter scene. It would be simple to make.
A bunch of mafia think they got Hisoka out numbered. Hisoka proves them wrong.

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up.

But still. Hisoka laughing manically while cutting up mafia...would be great

Episode 47 : セイヤク×ト×セイヤク

Restriction x and x Restriction ? Pledge x and x Pledge remote ?

I don't know, but that's the idea I guess. Someone to translate ? :)

^That's that Restraint and Vow or however it was called. Those words are homonyms. You can hear Kurapika naming it "Seiyaku to Seiyaku".
And yeah, the 45 episode title was wrong. I guess the translators though Kousoku stands for Restriction while it also can mean High-Speed (chase or whatever). Same with Yakusoku, which could mean either Promise or Arrangement. So the right title should be sth like High-Speed chase x And x Arrangement. I wouldn't blame the translators as I also though ep 45 would have this flashback, but it seems like I guessed right and it will be covered in episode 47.
Btw, so the titles of the upcoming eps came up? Could sbd post them all here please? =D

Thank you, ZonikStrike ! Personally, I only know the title of episode 47. But I'll search the rest later =D

Oh, and I have a question about episodes 45 and 46.

Why Ubo called Kurapika "Chain bastard" ? He knows his name by Senritsu and Basho. With that, Shalnark could do research faster via Hunterwebsite, for example.
