Gildarts will need feats to be in the conversation. Irene has already proved herself to be clearly above God Serena, and is portrayed that way. Gildarts portrayal is tied to God Serena.

Right now, Irene wins. The difficulty cannot be high.

well, hype wise Gildarts should be considerably above every FT member.

then again, we never really saw Gildarts going all out. he has one named moved lol.

he could be stronger than we expect.

I can agree with all of that. If Gildarts shows he's a lot stronger than everyone in FT, honestly I wouldn't be surprised. One of his roles as a character is to be powerful. No one else in FT has this in their character, except maybe Laxus.

But if we're talking hype this arc (most important), then Gildarts ~ God Serena. It's possible GS > anyone else in FT too, I don't see it that way though. Still.... in a match against Irene there is no way I can give Gildarts the win unless he shows he's worthy.

I knew it all along...

Despite all the recent Irene "Belserion" hype, nobody can deny that, what they just read in the most recent chapter, pretty much determines the winner of this fight. Let me refresh your memory:

Honestly, if Irene sustained damage to the point where she admits that she feels pain, then she has absolutely zero chance of beating Gildartz, let alone easy diffing, mid diffing, and the likes.

Unless you are willing to tell me that Erza and Wendy's attack is stronger than Gildartz strongest punch (Empyrean, etc.)... which I completely disagree, even feat-wise.

Furthermore, the amount of blood on Irene's face just goes to show that she doesn't even have the durability on the level of Gildartz, in order to defeat him.

So, she actually loses to Gildartz in terms of both offenseanddefense.

I continue to stand by Gildartz winning this fight. The difficulty... it doesn't really matter at this point. The result speaks for itself.

Lets be fair to Eileen, she took an Enchanted, Fused, Black and Red sword strike to the head without flinching and is only bleeding a little. I doubt many people have that level of durability, Azir was spurting blood everywhere from Erza's cross slash to the chest, and she wasnt even enchanted there.

I'd personally put her durability somewhere around Larcade's level, still pretty decent, better than every other spriggan thus far, except maybe God Serena.
It does seem that Larcade wasnt totally overhyping himself when he said he's up there with the big 3, its just that August set our expectations too high, i guess thats why he's the boss, and not Eileen or Larcade.

But yeah, Gildarts does way better than Erza and Wendy, does this mean he wins? Imo, no, Eileen has yet to go all out, but its high diff either way

Gildartz has yet to go all out either. And his feats are already better by far.

Using Ajeel as a benchmark for Irene is kind of unrealistic, considering they are on opposite poles when it comes to who's superior. Ajeel would obviously be spurting blood against Base Erza.

And nobody really asked Irene to tank it, she always had the option of dodging it. But she couldn't dodge it, which is why she was surprised that she got hit. Because Wendy countered her enchantment with "Deus Zero".

Comparing Irene's durability to the other Spriggans isn't really my concern. All I'm saying is: If Irene was bleeding and admitted pain from Erza and Base Wendy's attacks, she wouldn't win against a full-powered punch from somebody >= Laxus. We're talking about the strongest FT mage.

Thats true, and imo when Gildarts does go all out he'll be Fairy tail's strongest, above DF Natsu, maybe on par with August, but i'll wait a bit before saying he can beat everyone.
Erza>Historia Serena imo, so not really. Erza has dodged all of Eileen's attacks so far, we dont know what kind of damage she's capable of dealing, she's also really casual.

Sure, all i was saying is that Eileen's durability>>Azir's(average among spriggans imo), so she's not doing too bad. Gildarts hasnt shown much in this department anyway.

No reason for her to dodge either, she's not using that body anymore. When Wendy countered Eileen it looked like that was the moment she came up with her plan.

Depends on how much damage you think she has taken, the strike to her head seemed to only deal minimal damage despite the blood, and if she can easily tank a bunch of those attacks, she can prob tank some Gildarts punches.
Imo Wendy's enchantments are not to be underestimated, i'd say they increase stats by around 60-70% possibly more, Erza with that much of an increase is nothing to sneeze at.

I'm not saying Gildartz can beat everyone... but Irene? Definitely.

Erza is also >>>> Historia Serena... Historia Serena is a fodder illusion. Any decent-high tiered mage should be able to defeat a Historia. God Serena >>> Erza. That's different and more impressive than a simple Historia.

Maybe Erza dodging all of Irene's attacks means that Irene can't dodge. I'm not saying Erza sucks at attacking, cuz clearly after last chapter, she's pretty decent. But I think Irene is the one who lacks combat feats, after she failed to dodge Wendy and Erza for the second time around.

Wendy also countered her twice within a timespan of about 5 seconds.

Sure, all i was saying is that Eileen's durability>>Azir's(average among spriggans imo), so she's not doing too bad. Gildarts hasnt shown much in this department anyway.

Gildartz did survive a lenient-gutting from Acnologia. While I acknowledge this is not a solid feat, it just goes to show that Gildartz has survived a much larger injury and amount of pain than Irene.

I have no doubt that Gildartz has some tolerance to pain, especially since Natsu could never damage Gildartz prior to this arc. That shows volumes of his durability considering Natsu was able to damage people like Laxus and Jellal pre-timeskip.

Saying Irene > Gildartz is like saying Irene > Laxus... and after Irene was injured by Base Wendy and Erza, I highly doubt she would survive full-powered Red Lightning.

No reason for her to dodge either, she's not using that body anymore. When Wendy countered Eileen it looked like that was the moment she came up with her plan.

Dodging is up to her, I agree. But it just goes to show how low her durability is. If it had been Laxus or Gildartz instead of Erza and Wendy, she might not have been standing there still. That's my point basically.

Depends on how much damage you think she has taken, the strike to her head seemed to only deal minimal damage despite the blood, and if she can easily tank a bunch of those attacks, she can prob tank some Gildarts punches.

It's not the amount of damage that Irene has taken. Yes, it wasn't much.

It is solely Irene's durability that is lacking. With nothing but a few short hits, Irene has admitted pain and showed signs of bleeding. I don't see how you can compete on the likes of Laxus or Gildartz if you can't take a few simple attacks from Erza and Base Wendy.

That's the key, Irene wouldn't be able to take a full powered attack from Gildartz because Gildartz is essentially at least equal to Laxus when it comes powerscaling.

EDIT:

Didn't you vote Gildartz in this thread or is the polls lying? :derp

I think you agree with me for the most part anyways.

Haha, i did indeed and i do agree for the most part. Just saying that Eileen shoudnt be underestimated just cause Wendy got the better of her while she was casual.

Like i said, imo Gildarts may even be a match for August, and August>Eileen

I think Irene takes this mid-high diff. With how they've been portrayed, at best Gildarts is ~ God Serena while Irene is > God Serena or more. I simply think that with enchantment and whatnot, Irene can get the W here, it's as simple as that.

I knew it all along...

Despite all the recent Irene "Belserion" hype, nobody can deny that, what they just read in the most recent chapter, pretty much determines the winner of this fight. Let me refresh your memory:

Whoa, hold up there Nemi. One thing I will correct you on is that it was Dragon Force Wendy, not Base Wendy and there's a sizable difference there in power. As for the head wound, two things: 1. She didn't defend and 2. She got in the head with a sword. I think the sword is a bit worse to get hit in the head with than say a fist hence why she was bleeding because she got cut up, plus not defending would mean she'd take more damage too so there is that you should be considering here.

I think a sword slash like the one that Erza gave Irene should have sliced her head in two, especially with the force that it seemed Erza exerted. Irene must have a really thick skull.

Anyway, I think Irene would win mid-difficulty and she'd have a much easier time in her dragon form, probably. Gildarts said he'd at least have a fair bit of challenge with a God Serena that was alive and Irene is far above that Spriggan.

Nemi now you know even August got injured by Brandish's Dagger and that too was not enchanted or magic weapon. So this is not new.

Now the main thing i will give you reasons why Irene is > Gildarts.Larcade's magic Pleasure itself proved it.As we have seen, the stronger the person the better they are able to resist the magic.

i)Foot soldiers of LS.Their soul almost instantly left their bodies.
ii)Mages on the level of Alzack and Bisca fell to the ground almost instantly. But their souls didn't vanish.
iii)Gildarts and Laxus fell to the ground.Gildarts was so weakened by this magic that he could barely move.
iv)Irene was weakened but neither she did fall nor she stopped fighting.Infact she continued to fight.
v)Zeref was weakened. The effect was least on him.His head only pained.

So you see Irene was not weakened to the extent of Gildarts.

And if Gildarts too had taken such a hit from Erza without defending then he would have been injured too.

If it were DF Wendy, she would have looked like this:

For Wendy, her signature appearance in DF mode is marked by the "wings/feathers" on her wrists, shoulders, and ankles as well as the ruffled messy hair.

When she attacked Irene, she looked like this:

When she attacked Irene, she showed none of those characteristics. The only similarity between the two scenes would be the color of Wendy's hair.

I do agree that Wendy has lighter colored hair when she attacked Irene, but I believe that's the case only because she casted some sort of enhancement on herself.

That was my interpretation and impression the whole time anyways, but the only way to know for sure whether she was in DF or not... would be to wait for the anime to come out.

For now though, I'm going to assume Mashima has kept his illustrations consistent and call it Base Wendy.

August's case doesn't count because he was taken by surprise since Brandish was being manipulated. And it's not like Irene was attacked by an ally..

She knew that Erza and Wendy were her enemies and she saw them come to attack her. She just lacked in basic combat ability and skills.

I don't think Larcade's pleasure magic is a benchmark for deciding who is weaker or stronger.

It was never confirmed, but I believe that the result of Larcade's pleasure magic is decided by how much sexual feelings/desire you have. Since Zeref and Irene's sexual acts took place a very long time ago, they were probably less affected.

For Zeref, it was likely with Mavis. For Irene, it was with Erza's father. That's like a few hundred years.

But Laxus and Gildartz are both still young, so their sexual acts took place a lot more recent.

Gildartz fools around with women every couple of weeks. That's why he was affected more.

And given Laxus' age, he had to have done some sexual thing within the last few years or so. So that would explain why he was probably more affected.

I had half expected you will make this argument about Gildarts that he will be effected more because of his lecherousness.

i)August was caught unaware and Irene didn't try to defend herself. But the point here is their defence.Their awareness will not matter with defence.Suppose if someone pinches you while you are awake and someone pinches you while you are asleep, the effect on the body will be same.

ii)If i go byyour argument that Gildarts was effected more lecher then his sould should have left his body first like the LS Mages. But didn't happen like this.It clearly followed the power scaling, the weaker falling faster than the stronger ones. And Larcade never stated that time period of their sexual pleasures will matter. He only said if they experienced sexual pleasures they will be effected by his magic.

Gonna have to disagree with you on that point. Sure for regular humans it doesnt really make a difference, but imo for wizards in this manga having your guard up makes a big difference. Sorta like with Goku and laser beams.
The guy who low diffed Brain, taken out by a butter knife? I dont see it happening in a real battle.

But being hit by a magical spell and being stabbed by a blade are two different things. Anybody stabbed by a blade at point blank range would bleed.

If Irene was stabbed by Brandish unexpectedly, she probably would be worse off than August.

Irene could have dodged Erza and Wendy's attack, but she didn't. And after she was hit, she complained that she was hurt. Clearly, Irene had the opportunity to evade it while August didn't.

And I highly doubt August nor Gildartz would be injured and stating that they got hurt if Erza and Wendy had attacked them.

I can see your reasoning here, but of course there is some degree of control when it comes to the pleasure magic. Gildartz and Laxus may have been more affected, but that doesn't mean they'll let it completely take them over.

The had to stay alive, so they were able to control the pleasure to the point that they wouldn't die from it.

But I still doubt that the pleasure magic follows the power scaling since emotions (sexual feeling) and physical ability (power/strength) aren't related in human beings.

This thread is kind of pointless considering both characters have hype and no substantial feats... But knowing how inconsistent these Spriggans are, I believe Eileen isn't as strong as she is portrayed to be.
  • Gildarts Clive > Eileen Belserion [Extreme Difficulty]
Honestly, the only reason Gildarts wins this is because his magic is better suited for combat. Eileen, on the other hand, is mostly known for her enchantments. Since August was stated to be the strongest Spriggan and Eileen is on his level, I don't see Eileen's enchantments boosting her that high (assuming she can even enchant herself). With that said, Gildarts should be able to defeat her considering he is Ishgar's strongest.
Yeah, I'm sticking to my original position. I may even lower the difficulty here. Based off of last chapter, I'd say...
  • Gildarts Clive > Eileen Belserion [High Difficulty]
To be blunt, this is pretty much the reason why I never judge fights off of pure hype. The Spriggan hype and feats are especially inconsistent though. Eileen's exchange with Acnologia was also not a clear feat. This is probably where most people went wrong. Anyways, the fact that Eileen underperformed against Erza + Wendy just supports my argument. I previously stated in my post above that I don't think Eileen will be as strong as she was portrayed to be. And I probably won't change my mind on that...

Oh i had forgotten about that.

But Irene too didn't try to defend herself.

I agree with your first point.I concede. But any way this may be similar to Neinhart.Poor physicals but strong Magic power. As she is an enchanter this may "be" possible

But my second point you in a way agreed with me.They managed to stay alive because they were strong. If they had been fodders like LS Mages their souls too would have vanished then and there.

And we cannot compare real life with fiction.

Butt wait a magic blade will have more power than a normal Dagger.

As Stone Cold Steve Austin would say, ah ah. That is wrong. The hair colour change is the indication of Wendy's dragon force. Take a look here at the Avatar Arc where only her hair changes:
That also is her dragon force, but I'd say it's a more toned down one to what we've seen vs Ezel or vs Dimaria. Either way, it is Dragon Force but I do see why you might think it's something different.

Either way, Irene is being hard done by a bit here imo. When you have a Dragon vs a Dragon Slayer (Irene vs Wendy), the dragon is at least going to feel a bit of an effect from the magic the slayer uses because the magic is meant to kill them. Erza damaging Irene after the Sky Dragon's Wing Attack could be contributed to her striking the same spot Wendy did, i.e she was softened up for that attack.
