Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2010] - Discussion and TOC Talk

So what's Yabuki's new one-shot about?

Moderator Notice:
Not a one shot, it will be a full serial.~ Kaiten.Sama
There's another rumor (or, rather, more like connecting the dots), that Yabuki will be in charge of the comic serialization of a Shueisha light novel titled "Mayoi Neko Over-run".

Mayoi Neko's comic serialization in SQ was annouced back around September/October, with the mangaka unannounced... And a month or so later, we have news confirming Yabuki's move to SQ. Therefore, it is possible to tie the two together and say that Yabuki might be in charge of that.

It would certainly explain the lack of preparation time for a new series, and lack of testing 1-shot beforehand.

Of course, this is all just guessing... So take it with a bucket of salt :P
It's a love comedy about stray kittens... I mean girls! Being taken in by the protagonist's adoptive sister.

Re: Jump Square (Monthly Shounen Mag by Shueisha)

I have a question. Is Jump Square ranking system works same as Shonen Jump or different?

it is the same.
Is that means series that ranked bottom are in danger to be cut next?

SQ doesn't cancel that many series. There is very low turnover.

what kaiten said is correct but to anwser your question more indepth. the series that don't do aswell on the quesionares are the most likely to get cancelled but there is not a huge line waiting to get published in SQ so it doesnt happen much, there is alot of fluctuation in WSJ as it sells more copies and has a wider age spread.

Re: Jump Square (Monthly Shounen Mag by Shueisha)

SQ has not lived up to Shueisha's expectations. The only hit it has generated is Kurenai, already well known as a light novel. All of the other hits are the ones that moved from Monthly Jump and Weekly Jump. Circulation is decent, but not as high as expected. Certainly never lived up to that massive first issue. So there's really not much of a reason to cancel a lot of series.

Then, I think that is why SQ is gathering top mangakas from Shonen Jump; like Watsuki, Fujisaki, Takei, Konomi, Hoshino, and upcoming Yabuki. I think SQ is trying to increase the sales by gathering top mangakas, rather than taking a chance by a series by completely newbie.

Well yes but SQ's rep wont change that fast. and lots of people read jump for the new writers as well as the old favorites picking wats new and hot, even choosing what a Manga Editor should start doing. a monthly manga doing better then a weekly is quite unlikely. although not impossible

Looks like Shueisha begin to promote Jump SQ; Mayoi Neko and Shiki are becoming animated, also they are planning to serialized Sengoku Basara.

Mayoi Neko is a light novel; the manga is just a supplementary tie in SQ happens to be running. The anime and manga were announced the same day. No different then how Index, Tora Dora or Kure Nai getting manga tie ins once the anime were announced.

Why would having Basara 3 in the magazine be considered as a clue to "Shueisha beginning to promote JSQ"? Basara 2 was in Dengeki Maoh for YEARS yet no one gives a damn about it...at least till the anime came out...*shrug*

Re: Jump Square (Monthly Shounen Mag by Shueisha)

When Ice Revolution was cancelled, it was announced that it would finish its final volume online. Chapter 10 was released online, but I haven't seen anything else since then. Was it never finished or has it just not been scanned?

My guess would be that they just put the final volume into the tankoubon. That's what happened to ToI at least. They had me wait for the online chapter for almost a year before announcing that...-_-"
